On the subject of handling a crowd: Just listened to a bootleg copy of one of his stand-up gigs. He was being heckled and by the time Norm got done the guy told him he loved him. Just a beautiful human being.❤️
They said because of the celluloid film this was originally filmed on decomposing, these appearances on Conan were almost lost. Thankfully, the National Film Preservation Foundation found these deep in the old NBC archival vaults, restored the film, and added color digitally to them....
@dixonpinfold2582
2 жыл бұрын
Nice to hear. For the life of me I can't understand why archiving was never a bigger deal to deep-pocketed companies like NBC, the movie studios, and all the rest. It costs peanuts. Archivists are the sort of people who will work for low wages. Storage space in a lousy part of any city or town is super cheap. If a storage medium is known to deteriorate, at least re-copy it once every five years (or whatever) by renting some high-quality equipment. A show costs a million dollars to produce and you can't spend $50 over the following century preserving it? (I think that rant was building in me for a long time now!) Cheers. :)
@rhymeswithteeth
4 ай бұрын
I'm aware that restorers are able to add color to old black and white films but the thing that amazes me is how they were able to digitally remove the pirates hat that Norm always wore and, also, remove the parrot on his shoulder which was a constant companion of Norm's. I liked how Norm would often refer to himself as "Peter" and refer to his parrot as "re-Peter".

@@samich57 I think the point was to show that he isn't going to be dissuaded from keeping the word midget in his vocabulary. As far as he's concerned, I would guess, the word means very, very short person, and thus there can be nothing wrong with using it as a noun for very, very short persons.

In the 1950's, Steve Allen envisioned the perfect talk-show scenario. Host after host attempted to achieve the paradigm. Then, in 1996, Norm MacDonald made his first appearance on the Conan O'Brien Show. Allen, 74 years old and essentially couch-bound, watched the exchange, rolled over, and died with a smile on his face. He lived another 4 years in that position.
norm is so good at this that i cant tell if he is making these stories up a word at a time with no preparation or if they have been planned down to the stutters, he makes it looks so effortless but is still relentlessly funny. rip to one of the best to ever do it

I used to bet (daily) at a horse track, and the funny part about that story is that bets can't come out to $7.77. The way the odds are configured they come out in increments of 10 cents. Norm acknowledges this VERY subtly. Also, it's customary to always tip the mutuel teller at least to the dollar. He acknowledges that, too. That always struck me as funny. Norm really was a master of storytelling. He's both extremely simple and extremely smart.

RIP Norm Mcdonald, I mean we lost alot of people this year, but this one hit the most, i was hearing my favorite film podcast, film junk longest running movie podcast, and they mentioned norm mcdonald passed away, and i was like that cant be, and he did, and they were canadians, so i think it hit home for them, but, even though they were talking about other things, i couldnt get norm out of my mind, cause he was my favorite comedian on the planet, and i only knew about him from the start of the pandemic. I never knew of him before now, but i watched all of the SNL from the 70s, till now, cause of boredom, and i was fascinated by him, i felt he was the best my first pick of SNL anchors to genuily be funny, and i wish he had done more, but the backstory of why he was fired is outragoeous and i hope that executive who told him is now fired or has a bad life, im sorry, but, hate that executive coorporate P.O.S, and then i went on a rabbit hole of norm watching his film dirty work, and i watched the movies he was in before like in the early 2000s, when they came out, but never knew him, you know, i might have to watch them again, im gonna be a norm mcdonald completist, so i went on a rabbit hole and saw his videos on youtube he was in the dennis miller, another good SNL anchor, and just them laughin and having a good time, put me in a good mood, but even hearing norms stories are just funny, so im glad to have witness him, before it was late, and to have the realization when someone dies, to know how much they meant, is great, and really puts life in perspective, i hope his family is coping okay, its hard that he wont be with us anymore, but just check his stuff, i then saw him on the norm mcdonald show all available in youtube, and then howard stern classic interviews, so check those out, im a big comedy fan, so would like to hear what other comedians say about him, but awesome person, i might put this comment on various videos its not a scam, im a hardcore fan of his at this point, and i want to hear the youtube communities story with norm mcdonald, I know Norm is a big weed smoker, from stories i heard in comedian podcast, there was many who gave him weed, so there should be a weed strain of famous people who smoke weed, like him, robert mitchum, many others, i am one as well, will miss you thanks for makin me laugh, cause man i needed it

I freaking love norm. It’s insane that his character Pigeon in Mike Tyson mysteries stood out SO MUCH it led me on a giant chase to find out more and more and more about this amazing man. His voice, his style, everything is just perfect. There’s nothing like it. I feel in love with his comedy and binged anything with norm. The Norm show. Podcast. Late night Interviews. Stand up. And he’s definitely one of the legends. Unique. Un-replicable. Unique Feels all over. Nirvana man. Only a handful of artists/people will ever be able to do this in their respective field. They are definitely infinite in legend. Though humanity and the universe will one day have entropy to the point of nothingness. Or who the hell really knows what will happen. The laws of physics are crazy and crap goes beyond crazy beyond what we can comprehend. Idk. My point is I don’t care that we’re all gonna die or that humanity will one day end. Or if the universe restarts or not or if there are many or etc. what matters is the moment and the memories We currently share and have. And norm has impacted many and given so much joy and laughter. And in this pain ful world what more can you ask for that bliss and joy and happiness? I hate that he passed away recently and it has me all existential. Worse so than usual that Trevor Moore also passed this year. Life is too short to be hateful and evil or hurt others. Which is why I don’t respect Nazi sheriffs who are “just following orders”. Life doesn’t have laws. If it’s not a violent crime or theft or whatever then knock it off. Stop the war on drugs and shhtit. Life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Man. I keep getting off track. But it is all connected. Cheers to norm Macdonald And Trevor Moore And all the comedians and legends and scientists & philosophers who have changed the world and affected us positively. Especially the revolutionaries who wanted best for all and fought against oppression and outdated mindsets. Giving colored people equal rights. Civil rights. Women’s rights. Etc.
