    Another cool feature about Nooks that I just tried out yesterday - if you connect to WiFi at a B&N, you can read almost any ebook for up to an hour. And you get up to an hour of reading everyday. Kind of cool if you're wanting to do a deeper dive on a book than the samples allow prior to purchasing. Also kind of fun to feel more like you're shopping at a bookstore for an ebook. Also, loved the background in this vid!

    Great review! All of your criticisms of the Nook Glowlight 4 Plus are completely valid. But I still prefer using it over the Kindle Oasis. The main reasons are the bigger screen and the quieter page turn buttons. Also, Calibre has recently updated their software to make the new Nook work with Macs. I would recommend using it instead of Android File transfer.

    I need to explore Calibre more. The vast majority of my books are purchased from Amazon, so I've never had a need to use a third party software. Thanks for sharing your experience! The bigger screen is also something I love a lot.

    I have the nook glow light 4 plus. I love it. I had kindles before but they don’t last as long. Three of the best features for me with the nooks is the physical buttons, location of the power button, and the symmetry of the device.

    I'm a big fan of the GlowLight 4 Plus. I'm moving away from using Amazon as much as possible and have embraced B&N's NOOK as my eReader of choice (I also own Kobo devices, a reMarkable, and some other e-ink devices). It is a little snappier than older NOOK devices. And yeah, it definitely isn't nearly as fast as Kindle devices or Kobo devices... but I'm OK with that. The actual reading experience - the foundation of why we're buying these devices - is absolutely perfect. The screen is big, it's crisp, responds in a timely fashion with pageturn button presses, and gives me definitions of words if I need them. That ticks all of my boxes. I also get some bonuses from my membership, including now the rewards stamps being able to be counted for ebook purchases as well as credit to be used. Do I wish it was a little snappier? Sure. Do I miss Kobo's cool chapter bar graph view that gives me a visual representation of chapter lengths? Yep. Does the notes highlighting not make any sense at all? Yeah. But if I want to just READ and support a physical bookstore in the U.S.? It works.| Great review! Totally get all of the points you made!

    You should do a Kindle Scribe re-review after all of the updates that have come out. As a writer/aspiring author I’m still debating on whether or not it’s a good investment. Hardly anyone has shown off the note-taking aspects, nor have I seen anyone show off how manga looks on such a large screen as well, which is mind blowing to me.

    So true! You can make the best hardware in the world and put a faster processor and RAM on the device. But without good, well-designed software, it doesn't mean anything. We interact with the software far more than the actual hardware. Barnes & Nobile needs to sell a good experience to the consumer with their E-readers. The new Barnes & Noble Nook is running an "Allwinner B300 1.8 GHZ quad-core processor." It also has 2GB of LP-DDR4x RAM. So, in terms of hardware, it's actually more powerful than the Kindle Paperwhite with just a dual-core 1Ghz Meditek SoC. Yet, due to poor optimization, the Kindle is the faster device in terms of real-world performance. And based on recent Nook history, I don't think it will match the Kindle any time soon. Throwing more and more processing power just to run clunky software isn't a good answer to your problems. Especially when you still end up with a device that runs slower than your competition anyway. And it's likely we will see a new Kindle Paperwhite 6 in 2024 and maybe even a Kindle Oasis that will both be even faster than the current Kindles. (Granted, I know an E-reader isn't all about speed but mostly reading experience.) And again, the Kindle still excels in the small things like highlighting and cross-platform support and working with 3rd party apps. Barnes needs to get together with some great software designers. They have the hardware. But now they need the software. At least Barnes & Noble is finally expanding with new stores again, though. Amazon definitely needs competition in the book space. And we need the Nook to do well to keep Amazon on its toes with the Kindle. Competition breeds innovation = Great win for the consumer. 🙂

    Hi! Your Barnes & Nobles is our Thalia in Germany. They have a significant range of e-readers called Tolino. They are very good and since amazons customer service is a nightmare I am sincerely considering to turn my back on the kindle… unless they come up with a new worth considering device 🤓. Thank you for your videos! I enjoy watching them very much 👌

    Hello, I follow your channel and I was looking forward to this review. This Nook only has a dictionary and as a Spanish speaker I find myself in trouble when reading in my native language. I would like you to help make this problem visible, since Barnes and Noble asks us to buy books in Spanish but is not able to include a dictionary in the Nook. Another aspect is that it is impossible to buy books outside the United States or Canada with a credit card.

    The new design kinda reminds me of the Kindle Voyage in a way, except with physical buttons instead of haptic feedback. I love the size of it, looks comfortable and still portable enough to hold and a great size for manga reading. My only concern is that I’m still stuck in Amazon’s ecosystem, unfortunately, so it’s really hard for me to go anywhere else. That, and the terrible software is disappointing.

    Previous editions of the Nook support side loading DRM free epub files. That's a must have feature and why I've never bought a Kindle. I have the previous edition and there's nothing here that will make me upgrade.

    I’m surprised on how slow my nook Glowlight 4 is too. My biggest beef are the page turn buttons. I naturally rest my thumbs there and then find that I’ve turned pages without even knowing. Finding where I was is horrible. Now I bookmark constantly (every page). I really wish there was a way to disable the buttons. Who would I contact with that suggestion? Would they even listen.

  • @Maneetpaul

    @Maneetpaul

    Ah, that must be very frustrating. With so many buttons, they should definitely have a setting to disable them. Perhaps there’s a feedback form on B&N’s website?

    I don't hide the fact that I'm a Kindle fan. Personally, I find the Kindle ecosystem to be easiest to use and most optimized. Every competitor that I've tested works fine and sometimes has better features, but the experience as a whole just seems to be best on Kindle. Everyone will have their own personal preference!
