    Hey, 1. It is actually pretty normal that you replace the whole screen with the aluminium sides with the earpeace and stuff. You basically cant get just the display. If you buy original parts from Samsung your literally not gonna get just the display. They want you to replace the whole part. Thats why some repairs of Samsung phones, especially the S series, can cost you easily 100-250$ just to buy the display without taxes. (Depending on the Model. Ultra displays are obviously the most expensive) 2. Removing the battery on Samsung phones is a pain in the ass. You really need to heat it up or you can use some Isopropanol. Most of the time we actually recommend replacing the battery with a new one, but normally when the phone is 2 years or older. Depends though. 3. You are freaking lucky to get the earpeace sensor out of the phone without breaking it. They litterally break every second time. It is very cheap to replace though. 4. You should just have bought the adheasive. But itll work just fine without that. Important though: If your glue tears apart, please buy a new one. Reusing it is just not a good Idea. You got pretty lucky, thats why that isnt that important. 5. Those dead Pixels might come from the battery expanding. If the spot gets bigger or you see that the back-glass is starting to bend, then please replace the battery as soon as possible. And good job! For the first time that was pretty good.

    @@rushilkisoon to be fair doing just the display is massively harder and damage to the display is incredibly easy (any crumbs or shards on the frame will break the screen if you press the new one in to place. Frames don't even add much to the price, only about £10 to £20 which isn't much considering how much easier it is and the exorbitant prices of non-apple OLEDs anyways. I prefer having the frame too because it adds to resale value since it pretty much makes the phone in brand new condition.

    Hey! Thank you very much for all the information. 👍 Yeah, there was only one place that seemed to have the screen on its own, it was a Samsung OEM one, but I'm not sure if you would get it with the back anyway. In terms of the ear piece, luckily the new "refurbished" display actually came with one in already. So I didn't have to move it over which was nice. I'll definitely keep an eye on those dead pixels to see what happens. I'll also look into replacing the glue. Thanks again for your detailed comment. 😁

    Just a tip: If the phone is older than a year, you should always replace the battery (with a new battery from a reputable source obviously) along with any repair if you're opening the phone, that'll extend the lifetime of the phone since the only true "degradable" part of the phone is the battery, not to mention the abuse the battery would have taken by the heating and possible physical damage if the battery needs to be removed for the repair, thus also making it safer for the repair too

  • @DevilDead13820

    @DevilDead13820

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@ligametis Sure, I agree with that. These flagship phones have the best possible part at the time. I never said I thought this part was too expensive (although I understand how you could imply that), 300CA$ is actually a pretty good price for the screen + assembly of a 1k+CA$ phone. Especially since I understand that this part was only manufactured for _this_ device. But that doesn't change the fact that price gouging is a very real thing that happens on some very inexpensive parts. You can buy them, but only if you pay a high price for it. I have to say though, now that I'm thinking about it a bit more, I don't have any real example. All of this is a difficult subject. So I guess what I was trying to say is that we shouldn't _only_ fight for the availability of parts but also a _fair_ price. "Fair" doesn't mean cheap, it means not 10 times the price of the part. Sure there can be a 25%-50% markup on it, but not 10 times the price. Which is something I see big companies doing.

    @Dawid - a good rule of thumb is this: Every time you take apart a glued device - replace the battery - especially since it has seen heavy use for a year. Batteries are actually not that expensive (usually in the 15-40$ range depending on size and brand) and replacing it removes one of the "worst" things about having an "older" phone - namely the reduced battery life.

    Man those glued batteries are a complete nightmare! I picked up for an amazing deal a 2dsxl with the upper screen smashed, and ordered a replacement screen from good old Aliexpress. Of course I followed a guide, but what they don't tell you is that they disassembled once (to check) and then re-do the process for the video. It took me 4 hours in the night and then other 2 the next day for the whole process! I also managed to slightly scratch the screen (just 3mm,not that noticeable since it's in the corner), crack the flimsy plastic backplate of the upperscreen(of course it was glued) and slightly damage the hinge(it works but it's a bit stiff at the beginning and a little loose when completely open). Oh that damned hinge, it took me 2 hours to take it out, the guide made it look so easy because they already took it out, I had to scratch away a bit of plastic to make some room, because mine was not only stuck but I had no picking tool, so I had to use a tiny flat screwdriver to push it from that scratch! Then after having finished I had to re-attach everything and then test it...... and it didn't turn on, rather it turned on then a popping sound. I was so pissed, then I remembered reading that was something related to the audio speaker, so I reseated them and it finally worked! it was a huge hussle, but I honestly would do it again. Not only I got a 2dsxl with battery charger and an 3ds r4igold for under 50€ (34€ the 2dsxl and 16€ for the display), but I also learned how it works, the internals and how shitty manifacturers are for making things unnecessary hard. For reference my previous experiences are just taking apart few playstation 1-2-3 controllers for deep cleaning, fixing/replacing faulty rubber dome, salvaging parts from my old broken laptop and replacing the shell, rubber dome and screen of my trusty old gba! I'm thinking of picking up a backlight modding kit for my gba to match my semi-transparent glow in the dark shell. But I'm not fancying the idea of having to chisel out the plastic; I remember a few good suppliers offering an easy drop in screen but it was quite expensive.

    I also appreciate this video because it shows what it's like for a person who's not used to doing this kind of repair and also that it's okay to try regardless of the outcome. Like, it's okay to break things! Don't get me wrong, if you can't afford to break things then it's obviously not okay, but what I mean is that it's okay to try and fix things and then break them in the process. It's part of the learning process and not every person has to be amazing at absolutely everything in order for it's to "be okay" for them to do anything. I mean, as long as it's not medical... breaking things isn't okay then... but other than that, it's okay to break things!

Sometimes only one year later they are like 80% or so... they suck. 2) Since the battery is SOOOoooo annoying to remove, and you have to, might as well replace it while we are doing the hard thing. Also, since it's so easy to damage the battery while removing it, by replacing it, we don't need to worry if we damaged it at all.

    Former Samsung tech here... I have some notes! 1:45 Fun Fact #1 - If you get Samsung to repair your phone, they will be using this same type of framed assembly. Apple does the same. No authorized repair is doing glass only and VERY FEW are doing true glass only on newer screens. It's actually a bit of a misconception among consumers that a glass only repair is somehow "more professional". These parts are manufactured in bulk one stage at a time with expensive machinery. Doing it by hand, while possible, is not a reasonable feat for most technicians. 1:55 Fun Fact #2 - Samsung doesn't make much off of repairs. That is generally the cost of the display at original time of production if you factor in profit margin for the part. The price they quote on their site is generally cost of materials, which is kind of bonkers. And keep in mind, they aren't making these parts years later. They were made around the time the phone was in production which is why costs don't really go down. 4:49 You actually did a great job not slicing though any of the coils/antenna on the back. That adhesive is tough to get separated with just a heat gun and weak suction cup. A hot plate, vice (with hardwood grooves), and clamping suction cup is the way to go. 5:50 Correct! Once the phone is opened it is no longer water resistant. Unless OEM materials are used with a calibrated press, the chances of it passing QC for sustained pressure is unthinkably low. If done by Samsung, they should be testing water resistance after the repair before it can pass final QC. 6:35 Fun Fact # 3 - That is loctite and is why Samsung replaces all of the screws when repairing a phone, so that you have fresh loctite on all the screws. It is so that small vibrations and other impacts don't loosen them over time and compromise the water tight seals. 7:00 That is because everything is put in place with added pressure to keep things like the speaker/mic/charge port gaskets sealed properly. If even one little part is slightly out of place, it won't be properly water tight. 7:50 Fun Fact # 4 - Samsung does NOT want it's techs or any third party removing the battery intact and ready for reuse. With prior incidents in mind, they expect the battery to be sacrificed upon removal and a new one to be installed. They do have very thin, flexible vinyl sheets that are just rigid enough to slice though the adhesive but can wrap around to the underside of the battery. It is still a pain, but makes it much simpler. 11:18 Good luck! Samsung generally won't service any device that has had a third party repair performed, much less an individual part. You can likely sell it to someone that does refurbishing, though! 13:20 Heat can help but pressure is the key to getting that adhesive to work. Once it has been separated, it really needs to be replaced to have the same seal. Regardless, without a calibrated press, you aren't getting it sealed like factory anyways, so reusing the old adhesive is probably fine so long as it isn't too dirty. 14:16 That looks like a pressure mark, not traditional dead pixels. It probably started when you pressed the back glass on and was cause by one of three things: something was on the table under the front glass (broken glass from the old screen?), something was between the display and frame from when it was refurbished, or the battery is putting pressure from a deformation that has gotten worse. 14:35 Considering the price of parts vs repair, you're probably right. Though, you did do a pretty solid job on this considering your experience level! I have seen MUCH worse from much more experienced techs.

  • @raycert07

    @raycert07

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@arch1107 I never said it's a liquid tape. I'm saying it does the same job as thread tape, thread tape wraps around a screw making a seal, not gluing it in place. Thread locker is similar but is a liquid that solidifies, not to keep the screw in like glue, but to fill gaps in the screw hole so it has a seal and resistance if it were to wiggle around. Generally used on screws that are smaller because it easier to drip a liquid than to cut a microscopic piece of thread tape and hope it doesn't come off while applying or screwing in the screw or when you take the screw out. It is not a glue, it's similar to thermal paste, it fills in the gab between the IHS (screw) and the cpu cooler (screw hole). It's job is not to hold the cooler onto the cpu, it's to aid thermal transfer (tighter threads). It's more like a rubber to fill the gaps. While glue is an adhesive or in the case of super glue, a liquid plastic of sorts that bonds itself to the surface. I think I have made my point.

    As a licensed repair tech, I promise you that Samsung ONLY replaces the OCTA, which is the screen assembly and frame of the phone. By starting off with this method, you're on the right track. Seeing it's refurbished, it's entirely likely that it was in someone like myselfs hands. Samsung only issues new parts to licensed techs and we are usually allowed to repair parts and sell them third party. Lots of places do this and apart from the price, it's nice to see these parts recirculate and does keep costs lower than they would be. Future reference on the back plate removal, do the sides first. The sides will peel easier than the top and bottom and there will be a shocking amount of flex allowed. When removing the back plastic cover, it's not necessary to peel the coil from the bottom plastic shield, it can safely be removed as one piece. The blue on the screws is just thread lock, there's an excess on newer Samsung devices so expect screws to be a hassle. Also, idk why I didn't notice until the battery part, new OCTAs come with batteries included so I have no tips here, but you can be kinda rough on batteries and use something like a credit card to slide under. I'm editing this as I watch to seeing the motherboard (known as the PBA and daughter is subPBA from Samsung) come out satisfies me greatly. It's chonky. Never a need to heat the vibration motor to remove it, just pop it out. You can test the device before you get all those screws in. Just connect the PBAs and the cables and turn it on. You will just get temp warning. It's okay to reused the phones adhesive, as long as it's solid. Heating and pressing is good enough. Soak the device in 99% alcohol after the repair, watch for humidity in the camera lenses for evidence of moisture failure. All in all, from a professional tech, very good job and congrats on your first successful repair! I hope to see many more from you. Quality content! I'd also check to see if that screen came with a warranty.

    Samsung certified technician here, just wanted to comment on a few things. There is no such thing as a glass-only repair for OLED screens. At least not without some specialized equipment, and not offered officially by Samsung. When Samsung sends us parts, it is the whole frame of the phone with the screen already attached. The only exceptions to this are Galaxy S7 and older. The cost of the repair from Samsung includes a new battery, as Samsung policy is that batteries are not reusable parts. That's part of the reason it has SO MUCH ADHESIVE. They also pre-attach a battery to the new frame. Including technician time and testing, this is a bargain compared to doing it yourself. The blue paint on the screws is not paint, it is threadlocker. This is the phone's final defense against liquid ingress. We replace all the screws with new ones so that the threadlocker is brand new as well. Samsung requires all phones to be 100% factory spec before they leave the repair center, this includes water resistance. A new adhesive seal and putting pressure on the phone to activate the adhesive restores the water resistance. We test every component before it leaves, including water resistance. If it doesn't meet spec, it can't leave the shop. Samsung policy is same-day repairs, not including shipping time if there is not a Samsung-authorized repair center nearby. If you have a local shop that is certified, they are required to return the device to you same-day. Finally, repairing the phone yourself ensures that Samsung will never repair it again, as unauthorized repair is one of the things that puts the phone in "BER" or beyond economical repair status, and we are instructed not to repair these devices. I'm an advocate for right to repair, and I believe it is necessary for a sustainable future. That said, there is a reason the pricing is what it is from Samsung--it's because they offer a full solution repair. As much as I feel that RTR is important, Samsung is easily the best solution when it comes to authorized repair.

    If you replace the seal, that is broken upon removal of the back, you can bring it back to like say 95% or so water-dust proofing. Will never be as good as from factory as said but you are basically good enough. But hey its one of those things where you got phone back even with a bit of a minor drop in the IP rating. Still gonna protect it from normal dust and wetness might not be as good for like going swimming with it but who does that XD.

    Whenever doing a repair such as this, watch multiple guides before you order spareparts to do it yourself, proceed only if you are okey with the fact that you might end up bricking your phone rather than repair it. If you need to remove the battery during the repair, you might as well replace the battery with a new one.It is a lot of fun replacing a cracked screen, cursing over small screws and "WHERE THA F** did it goES" just to do it all over again 3 weeks later because the battery died. Some phones require special toolkits (specialized spareparts-stores usually sell those as well), nothing is worse than having that ONE screw with custom head, which you need to remove in order to finish the repair, but you can't remove it because you do simply not have the tools to do so. Final tip... Eat before the repair, and stay hydrated, shaky hands and loss of patience does not affect your repair in a positive matter.

    As a Samsung employee, This pained me to watch, But i couldn't stop, Good job on the repair tho!. To put this repair in comparison, It takes most of the techs ~15 min to complete that repair

    Awesome. Seems like putting the weighted item on it may have been the contributing factor on the spot/pixel issue. Prior to you doing that upon review, I didn't see it.

    Someone said it's possible that the dead pixels appeared because of the battery expanding

    So couple things. From experience taking devices apart as a apple service tech the reason is not as water right is because the adhesive is part of what makes the device water tight. Also the blue paint on the screws is tread locker. Supposed to avoid screws loosening over time by things like vibrations.

    Watching this on the exact same phone and colour :) Oh, also, use isopropyl alcohol next time to loosen the battery glue. :)

    You're doing like I did 6 years ago when I started repairing phones. =D Now, 6 years later and nearly all phones I get for repair are like Legos to me. And you are quite right with the "so delicate but you need a lot of force", THEY DON'T WANT US TO REPAIR "OUR" PHONES! xD

    I'm pretty sure the placement of heat combined with pressure from the weight of the box you put on top caused the Amoled to do that. The screen was clear doing the display test if you notice, then appeared the next day. There's pics online of peoples screen forming purple, black, green blobs like that but much worse.

    You gotta use a metal Iseseme tool to pry the battery up. It wont puncture it. Sometimes it bends a little and you have to flatten it out again. Also, you should be using alcohol on all that glue.
