Good luck mama! My 5yo non communicative ASD son is OFFICIALLY potty trained. We started in January and he now is able to sleep in his underwear 🤗 We had been trying for nearly a year and a half, I was so close to give up but I’m glad I persisted! What worked for us was removing him from his diaper completely - I’ve always heard of it being more effective, I was just scared he would be comfortable going in his pants, like he was with the pull-up. I WAS WRONG. We only had major accidents for 2 days!! I was blown away by his progress. He doesn’t use icons, he can speak, he just can’t make sentences to get wants/needs across. He now says “pee pee potty” for both 1 & 2 😅 any ways, step out of your comfort zone, our little ones will never cease to amaze us. I’m rooting for you guys! XO

You're awesome. I just wanna start by saying thanks for sharing this video and that you're an awesome mommy. I came across your video because I myself have a child of Autism ASD, so I'm trying to find a way to get my child to better communicate potty. Visual pics were indeed on my mind. Thanks for your tips, I appreciate it and I will be trying them with my child. I have to admit I've potty trained plenty kids and have a child who doesn't have autism. I feel potty training one with autism can definitely be a challenge, but it's one I'm willing to take to get my kid trained. I know it's possible because I've seen it happen and as the word says all things are possible through God that strengthens us. God bless you as well anyone that will read this message.

verbal NTs take a lot for granted hey, things take a lot of steps to learn, it is not actually 'natural' to people who learn explicitly, slowly, deeply and literally. You are doing an amazing job! I was inspired and also want to cry watching this as I know we have a long road ahead to learn potty too. And with very little sleep, I feel like I am failing my kid all the time trying to remember so many steps to help him learn/be supported how he needs. But seeing you literally map it all out gives me hope, makes me feel less alone trying to find and set routines and do the right things to support my little one. Do you have particular sites you use to get ideas for routines? We are a bit limited in our country with these practical moments, what to do.

@@ROCKNSTIMS Hello, I love this question and answer. How long did you let Christian sit on the toilet when you first started out? I have a nonverbal 21 month old grandson that's been taking his diaper off and doesn't show any kind of signs to when he has to go, so I'm gonna try your routine to see if he'll catch on. He catches on to things pretty fast sometimes off of the first try.

Avoid liquids anytime near bedtime (I would say a few hours before bedtime) make sure you take your son to the bathroom immediately when he wakes up. For pulling up and down pants when going potty I would do hand over hand modeling (you pull them up and down but have his hands help you and slowly back off from doing all the work and he should be able to little by little pull them up by himself. With lots of practice 💙

I used to have him in pull ups but change it because it was so much cheaper and he would also fuss a lot with them on. My son hates wearing clothes lol. I sometimes regret it on those poop days because it’s gross but hey it comes with the challenge.
