‘Nobody feels safe’: Hundreds of people riot in Alice Springs

Shadow Indigenous Australians Minister Jacinta Price says “nobody feels safe” in Alice Springs after hundreds of people gathered in the city to riot.
Violence has erupted in Alice Springs, where hundreds of people were involved in riotous behaviour, which left buildings and cars damaged and forced workers to barricade themselves inside.
“It’s really emotional - it’s saddening,” Ms Price told Sky News Australia.
“Community members of all different backgrounds are reeling at the moment because of the absolute destruction and the mayhem that’s been taking place on our streets.
“Nobody feels safe, and it should have never escalated to this situation.”

Yep. The liberal Woke's here in the US are promoting a victim ideology. The criminal is a product of their childhood and must be pampered. In San Diego multiple offenders are routinely released in a few hrs. Non-violent felons are not incarcerated even after multiple offences. In LA county using a weapon is not considered a special circumstance for heavier penalties. At the parole hearings the victim's relatives and prosecutors cannot attend the hearings. Consequently, the Woke infected hearing officials minimize the parole requirements or fail to return them to jail. I visited Australia 40+ years ago and there was very little crime and firearms were everywhere. Now the criminals have them like Canada.

Whether intended or not, they have received messages of disdain from the nation. I’m scared this is just the start of what most people in community knew was a risk, we have 65% of Indigenous people under the age of 26…it is tinderbox and where at the precipice 😕

Nobody is indigenous to Australia, Europe or the Americas. Stop using their preferred terms. Unless the aborigines developed ex nihilo on the island nation of Australia, they were just the earliest settlers that we know of. People that live for thousands of years picking food up from the dirt, building no lasting structures, never advancing their culture, get replaced by superior cultures. It is the way things are and the way they should be. Romans didn't show up to England and start building mud and wattle structures; they built proper homes and equipped them with central heating. They built roads and aqueducts, advanced the knowledge and well-being of the inferior society they conquered.

I lived at Heavy Tree Gap caravan park in Alice when I was 20yrs old. We were harassed quite a few times when walking past the dried out Todd River by drunken people who laid around there on the turps. Such a shame as it was so very beautiful up there. I loved the area. I don't think they can fix these people. It's been 38yrs since I lived there, so these are my contemporaries GRANDCHILDREN carrying on like this. 😢😢. My 17yr granddaughter isn't like this, why are these grandchildren out of control 😮

No buildings or structures of any kind, no written language, no form of government, no rule of law, no advances in science. Nothing. And then when Europeans arrived, in the space of less than a few hundred years they were propelled from the stone age into modern society. Some adapted but the majority of them genetically stayed in the stone age.

@@sammydsouza4379 mostly only park rangers, police, farmers, professional hunters have firearm licences, your average resident does not. Last week, 3 Indigenous youths (under 18yrs) committed a home invasion with weapons including a stolen firearm, held up the residents to steal the usual items: car keys, money, alcohol, and sometimes they’ll take food. Home owners can only use self defence if attacked first. If you arm yourself with a knife, pole, 2x4, then it’s considered assault (on the invader) and you will be charged if there’s a grievous injury. What this essentially means is, criminal invaders have more rights in your home than you do, and they know it! We in central Australia call it, the catch & release system, because minors get dropped home after a crime spree, by the police!

This is the result of multi-generational welfare, with no responsibility, and no consequences, for wreaking havok in their communities.

I hope Eddie Betts is watching this. He said the other day he doesn't feel safe in his own home after drive-by abuse of his kids. I'd be interested to hear his opinion about indigenous people running amok terrorising the entire town. Stealing cars, damaging property, violence, abuse. Yeah, we've come a long way, Eddie...

When I visited Alice Springs 10 years ago most of the shop keepers/business owners were desperate to leave. There's a terrible social depression there

Well said, Jacinta, how many times are these types of issues being told and proper help not being given to those and places needed in cities, towns around the country 👏. It's time to stop helping the rich and start helping those in need, places that needed it most. Peace ✌️
