NOBO Appalachian Trail NH/ME Part 2 of 6
It's time for another Appalachian Trail section hike...hike number 24! I'm solo again, headed northbound. And this time, I finish New Hampshire and make it to Maine! It's a wild and rugged week. During this episode, which covers day 2, I travel through the Mahoosuc Range. I begin at the base of Mt. Success and hike over the Goose Eye mountains...and I even tackle the infamous Mahoosuc Notch!!

Hey Thanks Loving every minute of it
Bravo to the entry to Maine👏🏻 Nature is throwing, rocks, roots, muddy trails, boulder scrambles at you…seems to be the ‘Maine’ idea. Cheers to you for enduring! Thanks for naming all the flora and fauna. Your efforts to capture this arduous trail is admirable. Be well. Be safe. Wishing you peace, comfort and fair weather ahead. Happy Trails!

Yes, I'm not a fan of the wet rocks!
Securing the water bottles to your backpack with paracord prior to traversing the Mahoosuc Notch was a good idea. That had to be a challenging mile over and under those rocks.

It was challenging....it felt like more than one mile!
We are right behind you, doing Vermont in August and finishing in NH.

Awesome! I loved Vermont! Good luck and happy hiking to you!
Well done! The notch is no joke. Especially alone and that late in the day and of course it's wet. I was nervous for you.

@@loamseeker5230 I hear ya. My kids sports always take my weekends, I really don't open back up until after Thanksgiving. I don't mind at all cold backpacking. just wondering how it is up there? when are the best cooler months?

Up north, I'd say Sept/Oct is doable...although there's always chance for snow on the higher mountains. Pushing into Nov/Dec....it's up to you how cold you're willing to go. After Thanksgiving, you'll be looking at hiking in snow most likely. But every year is different.
When I went through Mahoosuc notch alone it was 3:30 and I had concerns about completion before dark. Yikes! You went at almost 6 💪💪💪💪💪

It definitely was slow going! But I didn't want to do the Notch AND the Arm/Old Speck AND the Baldpates all in one day...I wouldn't have made it.
What backpack is that?

It's the Osprey Aura. I love it because it keeps the weight on my hips and off my shoulders.
