Nobel Laureate Investigating Russian War Crimes: Ukraine Needs U.S. Aid Now | Amanpour and Company

With all eyes focused on the Middle East, the situation on the ground in Ukraine is dire. Overnight a Russian attack on the Dnipropetrovsk region killed eight people, including two children. President Zelensky called his allies "life savers" for supplying resources to avoid more damage, and urges the world not to forget Ukraine's war. At the same time, Congress’s long-delayed assistance for Kyiv is finally back in motion. Despite threats from hard-line lawmakers to oust him, House Speaker Mike Johnson is putting his multibillion-dollar aid package to a vote this Saturday. Ukrainian human rights lawyer Oleksandra Matviichuk was awarded a Nobel Prize for her work documenting Moscow’s war crimes as head of the Center for Civil Liberties. She joins the show to discuss the importance of standing up to Russia.

I think Ukraine should and NEEDS to be discussed at any and ALL opportunities. It's barely making it into the news at all, which I'm sure thrills the Kremlin. PLEASE keep Ukraine up front and center. So many Americans and Brits care PASSIONATELY about getting them the weapons they require to do the job no other country is willing to take on. They ARE willing, while their cities are pummeled and children are dying. GLORY to UKRAINE!!!

The war in Ukraine is very different to the situation in the ME. The right thing to do is more clear in Ukraine and the failure to do is a striking indictment on our professed values.

Brilliant interview ! Can we all STOP allowing narcissists & profoundly mentally disturbed people, as well as multinationals & money $$$ lead large groups of us humans //countries. Time for us humans to live in peace , harmony and elect rational leaders capable of empathy & creativity. It’s also time to properly educate our children so they never elect the horrible mentally disturbed leaders we are all victims of today ! Sadly some more than others

Could you please tell about Crimea? It was an autonomous republic aligned with Russia and in 54 was donated to Ukraine by Khrushev. In 2014, Ukraine wanted to allow the Americans to set up a military base in Crimea with missiles, it is known where they were aimed. The majority Russian population did not accept it, they expelled the foreigners and, as autonomous people, held a referendum opting to belong to Russia.
