101-Year-Old WWII Veteran Commemorates D-Day Anniversary | Amanpour and Company

Today, veterans are returning to Normandy to pay tribute to their fallen comrades and ensure that the world never forgets their sacrifice. As time marches on, the number of surviving veterans grows fewer and fewer. But the voices of those few ring louder than ever. Among them is 101-year-old D-Day veteran Jake Larson, who spoke with Christiane at the 75th anniversary in 2019. He joins her once again in the Normandy American Cemetery.

Wow, what a wonderful man and what an outstanding interview. Whenever I watch these videos, usually with tears in my eyes, one of my first thoughts is my Uncle Nick from Minneapolis, Minnesota, KIA with 85 shipmates aboard the New Orleans-class heavy cruiser USS San Francisco (CA-38) during the Naval Balltle of Guadalcanal, 12-13 November 1942, in World War II. I write this comment in loving memory of my uncle who died 8 years before I was born. Gone too soon, Rest in Peace.
