I remember watching this in theaters and just being in shock with my jaw on the floor off this entire sequence. The girl was portraid as the antagonist in the trailers and this happened like half way into the movie so it was completely unexpected. Dude going to bed and leaving her there and the mom finding it was nuts.

Funnily enough this is actually one of the most accurate portrayals of shock.
He's not only high but he's in shock; he just unintentionally caused the death of his sibling and he can't even process that at the moment. How could he? The scene of him laying there and the white sound playing only confirms that he's still in shock.

I really can't stand people who blame him for going home. What else was he supposed to do in that moment? Are you seriously arguing that you'd have the presence of mind to do literally anything else consciously?

It never occurred to me that Peter must've been high as fuck. Time slows down like crazy when you're high. Him sitting there already lasted long for the viewer, but for him it must've felt like ages.
if you watch Midsommar and hereditary, the mom and Dani both have the same similar reaction. Hunched over, screaming/crying, moving back and forth. Ari Aster really does an amazing job directing his films.
Dude I just watched this movie last night. I honestly can not remember the last time a movie scene shook me to my core as hard as this one. I had my hand over my mouth to stop the screaming… I have never done that before…
All the people like “I can’t believe he did that,” like, what do you expect him to do? At that point there are literally no good options. At all. Nothing can make it better. Most of us have absolutely no idea what they’d do in this sort of situation, but I suspect a lot of us would do something very similar.

Yes dude, this is how most people would act
I've stood outside of my aunt apartment when my aunt had to go inside to tell her baby sister that her son just died. Toni Collette's acting in this scene is 100% spot on how a mother would respond to a child's death; regardless of age. She took me back to that moment in time when the entire family outside stood just like the son did. We couldnt move. Just stood there and cried bro...
Nobody understanding that he's acting traumatised. Like you'd be doing the right thing after something like that.

I believe our egos are excellent at instilling confidence in ourselves. It's only natural, how else do we carry ourselves out there in the unknown world where danger lurks everywhere. No one wants to look in the mirror and see an incompetent and fearful person when shit hits the fan. Admitting that is a tough pill to swallow. Even writing this feels weird, who am I kidding?

I have experience in Cattle Decapitation.
Incredibly clever film making. Take the character who everyone assumed would be a key player, kill her off early in an appalling manner, and show the end product just when the audience isn't expecting it. I class myself as being highly desensitised to horror these days, but that head shot made me yell when I first saw it. Genuine horror.
_Hereditary_ is the best anti-marijuana PSA ever made. Weed won't kill you but it will help you drive your decapitated sister home and not communicate with anyone.

Why about taking an epipen with you? That's on the mother.
"...you'll be playing the opening lead in two parts...so to speak.."
Could there be a mashup of the part when there was a sudden click when she was riding the car? It's one of the most effective audio jumpscares ever and every single reactor jumped from it.
Annie: "I just wanna die!" Paimon: "Be there in a second."
I remember reacting to this moment in theaters, my hand stayed glued to my mouth for a *GOOD* five minutes. 😱
I remember seeing this in theaters and having the nastiest chill go down my spine when she collided with the street sign
Yeah he totally disassociated there. I mean legally he probably would be charged murder moving the body. Touching the body is the LAST thing you want to do. The police will charge you with murder. However I would definitely have called police afterwards.
This movie was the first time I swore in front of my mother. I yelled, "Holy fuck!" when it happened. Movies, don't usually get reactions other than laughter out of me, but this one did for sure.
He’s both high AND in shock. Even if he were just ONE of those things, he STILL wouldn’t be functioning properly after that.

+catch-uppackets2664 first of all, W response. I respect that 👍🏽 Secondly, just to be objective, I can kinda understand what he means. As of right now, you guys are mainly if not nearly all the time reacting to TV episodes and while it’s good and fun to do that, it seems to be a little less about the movies in the past few months. From personal knowledge and experience alone, more people are likely to be up-to-date about movies than tv shows collectively together. Anyways with that out of the way, I hope you enjoyed the movie :)
I think Hereditary is one of the greatest horror movies in some of the past decade for even this scene alone

A month later and I'm here to give you my 2cents. It's not a scary movie, it's more of a suffocating and uncomfortable movie. The part where it deals with the supernatural is cliché af. If you've seen one, you've seen them all. But the atmosphere is always suffocating and Toni Collette's performance is so perfect and she expresses grief so well that if you took away the supernatural side and left everything as a grief-related psychosis it would have the exact same suffocating and uncomfortable atmosphere. They sold it as a horror, but it's actually a thriller.

A child, suffocating from an allergic reaction, is choking to death. She sticks her head out of a fast moving and it is slammed ans ripped up by a telephone pole, annnd you asked where the ho=or part is. I dont want to know you, because I've met emotionally damaged lumps of dead paste with no emotional response system, and every one of them makes my "Most Creepy Bucket Of Emotionally Dead Clay" ?~~ people I would never acknowledge. Get some help, please.
In reality, most people would have contacted 911 and just lied about it being a freak accident ( in this case it actually was). Even if you were in complete shock and drove home with the decapitated body of your sister in your backseat, you'd better have a goddamn good lawyer because you're definitely the first person to be questioned, which also didn't even happen to Peter in this movie .
I mean at that part
Most of these reactors are dumb lol. Have they never experienced anything traumatizing, stuck in a bubble? He was in shock. Take your shock from something traumatizing and x it by about 100. Literally saw her headless. Shock fucks you up.
