I remember when I re did all my black iron with copper. I had a pro plumber replace old gate valve because I was afraid I'd snap it in basement wall. He even said, This may snap and we'll be digging. He was able to put in a ball shut off without breaking line. I did the rest of work. Wife was kind of pissy because of the cost. Until she took that first shower. Then she noticed how fast toilet refilled and how the hose sprayer in kitchen blasted grime off the dishes and how fast the washer filled up. That was 30 years ago. I don't think I've impressed her since, lol. Thanks Steven. That was a rough one.

Yes, its the 20th century yet the Govt and other agencies believe we all should have to live with water pressures and volumes as if water will be non existant in just a few weeks. It's truly a comedy to observe how idiots in Government think.
The knowledge I get from your videos have helped me become a better plumber thanks Steven.
Hey Steve, I like the way you Use your CAMERA!!! You also set the lighting just right!!!.. Thanks for all you do.
They make Steven seem like a priest compared to them talking. It's always odd to me how direct you guys are up there. I love it!

That house needs all the water lines replaced for sure.
It’s hard to figure out when to stop on jobs like that. You’re very good at dealing with the people, and taking on each piece of the puzzle one piece at a time. Great work. It’s obvious this isn’t your first rodeo. 👍🏻

Steve,you are correct about on connections on automotive brake lines❤❤❤
You are right about flare on brake lines. The proper way is double flare. I use a Mastercool 72485 to get perfect double flare. Automotive high pressure compression fittings state on the package not for brake.
For KZread: these videos need more attention in the algorithm. Most people aren’t honest like this guy. Some techs would have gone in there and said you need all of your pipes replaced.

@@BrickTop900 so they probably would have told they can’t afford it and you probably would have charged them a trip fee for doing nothing. It’s the water quality - hard and acidic. The new pipe won’t last long either. Since you’re such a great salesman I’m sure you could of sold them on a water softener too. Have a good day and don’t get too greedy.
@BrickTop900
3 жыл бұрын
@@davidparsons2391 lol don’t make a judgment about me. I’m not a salesman. Steve said the pipe can blow any time about 5 times during the video. You can’t expect pipe to last 100 years without issue. Would you like to be drinking and washing your dishes and bathing in that sludge?
@davidparsons2391
3 жыл бұрын
@@BrickTop900 I heard him say that but he wasn’t rammy about it and he still tried to help them. Did you hear the lady say that they received notice not to drink the water. The issue is the water quality so if they don’t install a softener with the new piping it will tear up the faucets and everything in between still. Pex has advantages but it freezes way easier and a damn bug can chew threw it.

Never see much brass on supply, do on older tub faucets and drains. Lots of calcified galvanized though. You can fix a brake line with compression, but your asking for a james dean ending. Lots of people do it to avoid$$ and pain in ass bending and labor$$. Usually old rusty junkers to get by. Nice diagnosis and they were friendly hovers!

That "yellow brass" is a nightmare. If you look at it the wrong way it'll crack and it's off to the races. Had one on a job in Harlem, I was 15' away and gently tightened a compression nut. Before you knew it boom. Still have nightmares about that one.

Do these multi-story buildings have a plumbing chase? It should be possible to drop a new pex line to the basement and disconnect the old brass. I know it costs money but a flooded building would cost a whole lot more.

I’m curious as to what actually causes the “cholesterol” buildup in the domestic water pipes? Is it the chemical reaction with the old pipes or it’s it some chemical or mineral leaching out of the public water supply?

Calcium added to the water supply. The theory is that it will coat the inside of lead pipes and prevent the lead from leaching into the water.
