The beauty of these movies is that these were shot naturally. Simple everyday scenes, no flashy looks etc. For those of us who were kids in the early 80's would really endear this film. Thanks for sharing this, a lot of happy childhood memories.😀😀

Manivannan ayya needs to be applauded equally with bharathiraja sir for the story and dialogues he has given.Wonderful movie

This film is one of the top 10 benchmark movies list no doubt. Through This movie we can time travel to 80s just look their hairstyle bells pant lifestyle. Fantastic. Story underlines youngsters juggling between survival and goal. Music and bgm ahead of times oh my god.

It is extremely sad that this masterpiece was received very poorly by audiences back then, and resulted in major financial losses for Bharathiraja sir!

This film had lot of fantastic memories. Natural story. Natural acting. Natural shots. All these things entirely showcase 80s lifestyle hairstyle unemployment youngsters love and one side love above all isaignani bgm and songs. Another thing rajasekar superb natural acting. Nearly I seen this movie more than 100 times but still iam watching this as new release. This movie ahead of all times. Becaz we are still facing all issues even today.

Everything about this movie has an absolute innocent look and feel which by itself is very endearing. But not the music. Music is way ahead of its times for Indian cinema. Every time a song breaks out in the movie, it's like Deepavali. If only directors like KB and Bharathiraja had realized the immensity of the composer they had with them, perhaps they could have put a check to their ego. KB and Bharathiraja's ego and Kamal & Rajni's ambitions were not losses for Ilaiyaraja. The river doesn't care if people drinks from it or not, she continues to flow happily into the ocean. It's our loss that we did not drink from it. It's our loss we lost out on so many more compositions.

Outstanding movie ! Deepavali release of 1980, classic songs and BGM of Raja... Superb direction, acting... But due to trajic climax, movie bombed at the box office. After five silver jublee hits, Bharathiraja gave his first flop..But over the period this movie gained cult status 👍🏻

Something natural movie. But positive energic.good movie

Whenever i watch this film or Varumaiyin Niram Sigappu, it takes me back to the days when my father migrated to Madras in early 70s in search of a job. Films like these makes me realize the amount of hardships graduate youths had to face at a time when unemployment was at its peak. For all the parents who endured these hardships so they could make ends meet for their families - hats off.

35.36 best background score. It melts. Better than Hollywood.

True, there are Raja's tons and tons of such pieces, also pls listen 1:13:30 - 1:13:50

Ilayarajas BGM was a highlight with various situational pieces in this rather disjointed movie ..the piece which stands out & maybe least noticed is the bass flute piece which starts briefly @ 23:31 and ends in less than a minute - what a beautiful tune , wish it featured more extensively

Very different from movies of that period with garish costumes and pot bellied heroes dancing and longing for girls old enough to be their granddaughters. There was one movie featuring both Kamal and Rajni in B and W which was ahead of its time with lot of cuss words especially in English. Aval Appadithan. Such movies are not made any more. Alas.

Listen to the climax lines it's very nice. Though the film is a commercial failure, a few who made debut in the film went to become famous namely nizhalgal Ravi, manivannan, vairamuthu.
