What a great video! Fantastic vehicle build, and a truly epic trip with a level of planning that would make most people soil themselves. Ronnie as enthusiastic and welcoming as ever and a lovely 'twist' at the end. Worth of a re-post or something to get this older video back into the feeds of viewers that have been blinded by thinking they need a $25k canopy Ute setup to do 'big trips'

For the owner: Thank you for showing us the rig and adventure. On my 2006 gu4 i also have the swaybar disconnect on a button. Factory dual battery setup since i live in Norway, and it is a 12v system. Upgraded to OME heavy duty suspension, and it leans a bit in corners on stock dimension wheels(275/70/16 +10offset). But is nice and stable on 315/75/16 with a -52 offset. For Ronny: Thank you for another episode. And can recommend Iceland, so put it high on your bucket list. Cheers/Skål from Norway.

Hey Mag nus I drive 315/75-16 and 10j16" -44 offset steelrims on my GR. It look's good and drives well. The only problem is, i can find only 2 wheels in this dimension. Cheap Chinese Mud Race and Cooper Tires Discoverer STT. If you now others, tell me. Best regard from Germany But the two are MT's that's ok.

@@janfreudenberg4248 I have Stt's for winter, siped in the center lugs, and studded on the side lugs. And Stt pro's for summer. Next set of tires will be from summit racing in the US. They have a good selection of 315/75/16 and some 35x12.5/16.

They're all pretty useles tbh, if you do steel front & back, throw on a couple of long range tanks, roofrack & drawers you'll be almost over GVM on most 4wd passenger vehicles before even putting a driver in. I currently own a Patrol & know how hard it is to go on a big trip under GVM to the point I wouldn't use it as a global overland vehicle. With the GVM upgrade talked about in the video it's a bit easier & is a good point to highlight

Sway bar disconnect is a common factory extra but Australia only got the cheap models. I had a couple of 1990 Y60(GQ)'s with this. They were ex japan and 24v, tail lights that actually worked!

The sway disconnect part is a standard feature depending on the level. I have a 3.0 from 2008 as well and it has that.

I have 2 Nissan patrol GU/y61. And both of them have the switchable rear swaybar link. Both of them are rusted stuck though. When it works, it should give u around 5 cm of freeplay in the swaybar link, shown in the video. Also, one of my patrols are equipped with a "Cold" button. And when pressed it raises the RPM.

2 years old but still holds up. Good Video. Human Interest Story. We can all still relate. you should make more adventurer based content. but with C-19 .. i know Aussie Government is a bit.... how do i say without being offensive..... you get the point... Adventure Based ... Adventure Always...

My 89 GQ has the same thing. it works like and is located exactly where the hilux handbrake is. you pull it out to disengage then twist and release the handle to connect again. Works well with a 2 innch lift but might to modify it for a 3

It was actually just a 150w converter, because they use it on the cigarette outlet. Still sufficient. Your phone only needs 10-25w.

I believe they wouldn't meet US California smog rules for emissions, were not so strict here in Australia, 50% of modified Aussie rigs run straight they 3" exhausts with no cats or mufflers if it's turbo diesel

My 88 gq has a factory sway bar disconnect. I'm pretty sure some GUs came with then too.

The disconnect for the anti roll bar is org Nissan and it is mounted I all the SE models in Europe along with the vacum rear diff luck. If im not wrong,the rear bumper is made I Poland and can also hold a hi-lift behind the spare tyre.

Good on him for travelling before Covid hit!!

Hey Ronny, another great video, please tell the owner of this rig, he actually ALREADY has an intercooler leak, top right hand corner, closest to passenger side, when the corners appear black, this is oil being forced out of the cooler from a leak where the tanks are pressed on ( shit design), plenty of cheap welded tank units on eBay for under $300Au , direct replacement. It will be better now he has a catch can installed, but once they start leaking they only get worse, and he would be losing power even at the stock 16ish psi

Had a similar intercooler leak on my Navara D22, replaced it with welded aftermarket one. Catch can installed, manual clean of intake manifold and EGR. But yet to see some noticable power, though my black smoke and fumes are gradually decreasing. Was told to to Stage 1 tuneup, and yet to check fuel injectors. Anyway, it is nice to point this out to Fabian, didn't notice it myself. Well done.

Rear anti roll bar disconnect and rear diff lock was standard on all European patrols after the 2.8 was phased out I believe

Nissan Patrol is an amazing off road, I used to have one but unfortunately here in States we don’t have

The original Cayenne also had front anti-roll disconnect if optioned from the factory.

The GQ patrols had the sway bar release.

@Simon Cush, 3rd seat is factory, rear seats in these are split 60/40, so they've removed the middle seat and drivers side rear, and left the passenger side rear in buddy

@@adelaidetechtrader Cheer for that. I'm always thinking of removing my rear seat (15kg of unused weight and taking up valuable space), but would like to keep a single in just in case.

We have the switchable sway bar/anti roll bar in the UK

I think that the sawybar disconect system was stock in all y61 as the rear locker.

The stabilator disconnects come factory in Europe with the newer gr2’s (gu4)

My grandpappy used to say "you buy a Patrol when you can't afford a Land Cruiser".

Might be interesting to see how they deal with leaks in monsoon areas.

Granfors looks very similar to Hultafors but the level of finishing it way above. They come with a hair shaving sharp edge and mirrored. I haven't really noticed any significant difference in chopping etc. Plenty of videos on youtube comparing and nothing that different. Its basically just a hultafors with more attention to detail and finishing.

Small correction/thing I want to add for the bull bar thing. In most of Europe bullbars and pushbars are allowed, but only for vehicles dating before 2004. After 2004 you need to have it registered on the vehicle registration unless it's a factory bullbar. You also need to partially comply with pedestrian safety even for vehicle's before 2004, this means you need to be able to prove the bullbar won't inflict more harm than standard vehicle design (as most 4x4 have horrible pedestrian safety in stock form this is not difficult, just be mindfull there are no sharp corners). For example most old Land rover defenders have bullbars fitted by the owners, mainly for winch mounting etc. I drive a 2001 patrol so I can fit a bar without issue (and the engine is still goind strong @210.000km so lucky me haha)

@@rotwang77 true, this is the reason I'll only fit a front bar on my truck. Also the reason I made a DIY roof rack. Buying a welder as wel as materials was still 50% of a branded rack :(

There is a way around this though: Classify the bullbar as a winch holder (obviously you need a winch for that) and know the right people to get that written into the roadworthy certificate.

Second 27 Hertz CB... ? I've only heard of 27 Mhz, you must have something very special 55:27 Best 4WD Tip ever! What a great person, the German's or Dutch are always so inventive and confident in what they do... Great interview Ronny, could have watched for hours Would have been nice to hear from his partner and her thoughts on full time living out of the 4WD. Epic mission they are on, good on them for making it happen.

In Europe where he's from and in China I believe they use 27mhz, can't use our stuff over there. Same with slot of factory Japanese stereos, their FM range is way different to ours 😎

I am very aware of 27Mhz CB, used it for years in AU But he says 27 Hertz, a very very low freq... Maybe just a poor abbreviation Most people just say 27 Meg (which is still used for Marine VHF)
