It may just be semantics, but aren’t these instructions caught in delusion? Use of “you are the knower” and “mind and feelings become one” seem to be the precise delusion the Buddha taught liberation from. Ajahn Dtun talks about realizing the emptiness of all five khandas, and how an Anagami still takes the subtle knowing “I am” to be his/herself. But the arahat goes beyond this last fetter to “the mind that does not depend on consciousness as its cause.” The place where all the Buddha’s contemporaries caught caught was in identifying with sensory consciousness (vinyana) and/or with the conceit “I am,” which is clearly a mental fabrication. When the unborn mind gets caught here, final liberation is not possible because sensory consciousness and the “I am” feeling are dependently arisen phenomena. They belong to the khandas and are dukkha itself. I may be misunderstanding but these directions seem to be asking us to identity with these last subtle fetters.

@@Dharmapagan You would need to understand and study the depth and breadth of Nisargadatta's teachings to appreciate what he is pointing to here and why he is encouraging people to rest in the "I am" sense or state of pure presence. On the surface, and from a Theravadin Buddhist perspective (and languaging) it may seem to be contrary to the teachings of the Buddha, but it is not. Nisargadatta teaches that the "I am" is the first and last delusion or ignorance to be seen through and overcome. We must go beyond and see and understand with direct insight the builder of this house. But we can only do it through pure Awareness, mindfulness, insight, pure presence, Wisdom - whatever you want to call it. These are the gates to the Deathless Reality. He called it the "I am" and taught people to recognise it and abide in it as a portal to going beyond to the Absolute Truth. He recognised that Truth cannot be understood through the intellect or reason; and one must put down all conceptual constructs, dogmas, systems of understanding, and so on in order to see directly with insight wisdom. Words (and our conditioned judgements and preferences) are the great barriers here to understanding the profundity of what he realised and is pointing to. As you know, they can never "be" the Truth but only a proximation of the Truth. Here is a recording that specifically addresses going beyond the "I am" that you might find helpful: kzread.info/dash/bejne/opdmzNJrmtnAmrQ.html&ab_channel=SamaneriJayas%C4%81ra-WisdomoftheMasters

@@SamaneriJayasara my own disillusion from that “I am” feeling/sensation/thought revealed that the self is the shadow of desire. I noticed that the sense of I-me-my would arise along with the arising of desire and cease along with the cessation of desire. Additionally I have seen that the sense of a continuous self is stored as tension in the body, which is craving itself. The stronger the sense of self, the greater the tension in the body. The weaker the sense of self, the lighter the body feels. Even knowing this clearly, my own sense of self still persists because I haven’t gone beyond craving, though I recognize its rise and fall in conjunction with craving. I have a significantly weaker identification with this process but know that only overcoming craving entirely will dissolve that shadow of desire

Thank you for these videos. They have saved me many heartaches in the past couple years. And taught me many things. Finally I am seeing the fruits of my practice beginning to help those around me as well as myself. I once saw the Dalai Lama speak in birmingham alabama when I was merely 16 years old. I remember seeing many monks outside the stadium he spoke at all in their robes sitting around a peaceful pond and stream in the park beside it. And I remember the warmth of their laughter as I passed them by, wondering what could give someone so much happiness that it spills into others. I finally know what it is that gave them that overflowing laughter. Thank you🙏🏼🧎🏻‍♂️

You just have to be without thought. It's hard at the beginning, because your mind will tell you that it's pointless, but persevere in this state as long as possible. Just be. Don't think, be. Thoughts are of culture, being is of nature. There is complete silence in being, you are nothing special there. You just are. While in this state, the spontaneous recognition of who or what you really are will begin.

I find Eckhart Tolle’s concept of the inner body very helpful here. It is the sense of aliveness that enlivens each cell. If you get quiet and tune in to your body, beyond the sensory perceptions, you can sense that inner energy field. Aliveness without concept. Tolle calls it “beingness” or stillness. He links it to the “I am” feeling by pointing out that “being” and “I am” are simply two different grammatical constructions for the same phenomenon. (As 16:07 always, words are somewhat inadequate.) Feel the inner body. It is your portal to the life we all share as one.

After many years involved in hundred hours of teachings and tens hours of meditation I am still puzzled by this basic thing. It's always stressed by numerous teachers how "there is nothing to do" and yet they are using words (like in this speach) "turn away from fear/thought", "cease being interested in....", "hold on...", "cling...", "keep in mind 'i am'" My mind is right away, always puzzled "should I do actually anything?", "what is this 'turning way'" I am very logical person.. I would like to understand this deeply in a logical way. Otherwise my mind is just visibly seeing the holes in these words' logic. Does anyone struggle with these also? What is it that is actually being done or not-done in the meditation. Is observation "doing" or not? Is it act of deliberate choice, should my mind be repeatedly returned to the act of observation?

Looking forward to feed all of these recordings to AI and see what magic comes out. Would be surprising if it does anything better to what already is

As an American, I'm not sure if I can understand the "I am" without equating it to pure, selfish ego. Please explain, if you will, what is meant by I and "I am" in this context. I'm certain it is much different than my rather unconscious assumptions about I and "I am".

Don’t focus on the *concept* of you as an individual with all your mind-made stuff, ie, your ego. In this context, “I am” is the *feeling* of aliveness that lies beyond or behind thought/concepts/ego. You can sense it in your body if you get quiet and tune in.

I am is unconditioned awareness. It is the empty space of alert presence in which thoughts appear and disappear. Always remember any thought is the ego, the conditioned mind. I am is silence, space, stillness.

We are Human animal and we are Spirit Being. This Consciousness is a Divine living Being manifest as this physical universe. I Am is the first person of the verb to be. Our very living Being.
