Spinoza argues that the concept of a "free will" might be misleading as it often relies on a dualistic model of mind and body. However, he posits the existence of only one substance that constitutes the entire reality. Within this framework, the question of a free will may not be applicable, as everything operates within the necessities of this single substance. Therefore, the challenge lies in rephrasing the question of freedom and unfreedom in a holistic context that aligns with Spinoza's monistic perspective.

The god of Spinoza is by far the best presentation of a god as opposed to other trivial and murderous representations of other gods presented. Nature, a formidable and impartial force that is not concerned in the trivial affairs of man. Nature will win over us and so it must be until we wake up from our stupidity thinking we are special. If we are, we are not showing it.

I've been dealing with increasing anxiety for the last ten years. Looking back I remember what triggered it, how this led to a chain of events and my reactions to those. But I finally reached a point where I decided my reason can reverse this, I can systematically go through events which have triggered me over the years, and make the conscious decision to not let those continue to having any bearing on my decisions going forward, as much as my brain likes to try otherwise. Hopefully I'll be able to develop new habits and ways of thinking so my brain can stop being in a constant fight or flight mode, through my thoughts and actions I can create a better life without crippling anxiety of years past.

Emotions are intrinsic to human experience, influencing our decisions and shaping our understanding of the world;; without the capacity to feel, our concept of free will may become hollow, devoid of the depth and richness that emotions provide. our perception of free will is intertwined with the complex tapestry of human emotions, raising profound questions about the nature of autonomy and determinism.

In the pages of Spinoza's profound gaze, The question of free will, a philosophical maze, He pondered deeply, in "Ethics" did he explore, Is free will an illusion, or something more? With reason as his guide, he delved into the quest, Examining human nature, our minds at rest, For in the realm of cause and effect's precision, He questioned the concept of true volition. Is our will truly free, or bound by fate's chain? Do we make choices, or follow a preordained lane? Spinoza challenged the notions we hold dear, Provoking thought, and igniting intellectual fear. He saw nature's laws as governing all, No room for randomness, no free will's call. Our actions, he claimed, are determined and bound, By the laws of nature, on which we're unwound. Yet in this intricate web of cause and effect, Spinoza's ideas, profound and circumspect, He challenged us to ponder, to question, to seek, The essence of freedom, in thoughts, we must speak. So, as we reflect on Spinoza's sage view, Let's contemplate deeply, and seek to construe, The nature of our will, and in its illusion, Find the truth that lies within our own conclusion.

Similarly to the vedic and buddist understanding, perhaps Spinoza tefers to freedom as free of beliving I’m this body/mind . Being aware how thought and actions happens withour “my” will, and eventually realizing that since they “happen”. They just appear spontaneusly there’s no “I”, there is no “me” doing or thinking (the buddist anata, no self), thus attaining freedom of the “me” and through this “becoming” free from the sufferings of this workd and “discovering” , unveilng another dimension of being, joyful and infinitly peaceful, beyond of our percived reality, and at the same time always here. One becomes free of the determined body/mind and unveils the real always present , erernal One

I have an issue with his Axiom V: (Things which have nothing in common cannot be understood, the one by means of the other; the conception of one does not involve the conception of the other.) BUT What about a thing (X) and its negation (not-X) the thing being everything in reality that is not X. Now (X) and (not-X) have nothing in common by definition, but (X) can be completely understood by considering (not-X) and vice versa. Does this not invalidate Axiom V?

hi @fitness-eg7mp and absolutely, your point is intriguing. From Spinoza's perspective, the idea of 'choice' might be viewed as a complex interplay of various factors. Spinoza would argue that every event, including our decisions, is a result of the deterministic unfolding of nature. In the context of reason and passion, Spinoza might suggest that what we perceive as choice is an expression of our nature and the myriad influences shaping us.

I am not religious and I understand God exists and the eternal intelligent creator of the universe is everything that exist past present and future. God always existed and created self. My concept of God coincides fundamentally with Spinoza's God. Why if I didn't read Spinoza I came up thinking rationally with the same concept of God? Because Spinoza and I are right, and humanity still haven't changed their mind. If God exists it is not going to stop existing because reality is ignored. Spinoza thought the mind is eternal and I agree, I think when the brain dies causes the mind to transform to know all and give it perfect sense to our existence. Spinoza is not easy to read, Spinoza is a challenge. If you understand reality is eternal because from nothing can not be created something you are ready to read Spinoza. Spinoza has been treated like a fool who only gave the universe a different name. Spinoza was a wise person who warned us against the dangers of atheism and religion. When we hurt reality we hurt God, God's Life, God's chances of survival, the most sacred, you, I, the miracle of infinite possibilities of God's Life and Death. I am a poet and artist, a psychologist searching for beauty and peace. Was Spinoza and me right and God is everything? I am trying to understand how Spinoza's life was. What do you know about Spinoza, the most influential person of all time? Spinoza's work should be compulsory reading for all. He was the first person to discover God using reason. Spinoza understood God is reality or nature, substance, something as real as I exist. I want to give you hope because death is not the end and you have so much to live for. To end the war the discovery that atheism is a logical fallacy has to be news. I keep repeating myself. The truth is atheism is a logical fallacy that assumes God is the religious idea of the creator of the creation to conclude wrongly no creator exists because a particular idea of God doesn’t exist. Is Spinoza still censored? Did you know Spinoza existed before I told you? When Spinoza was born, how old was Spinoza when he died? Did Spinoza know he was literally God? Spinoza is the greatest of all time because he managed to get his thoughts published. Thank you.

This is only true if Dutch law requires that any person born in the Netherlands is automatically Dutch irrespective of their parent's nationality or the brevity of the mother's domicile in the Netherlands. Such laws automatically lead to dual nationality, since the nation of origin will also presume the child to be a national of the mother's original country. A person born in Britain is only of British nationality IF one or both parents are British by birth or naturalisation. The child of non-naturalised immigrants, even ones with right of entry, by virtue of being a non-British citizens of a British Commonwealth country, is NOT British by right.

Free will has never been the case for human beings , rules , protocols and responsibilities have always been taught through out time and through culture , " The do's and don'ts" ie , don't contaminate your water source and destroy your habitat , hence the reason why our fore fathers had "Gods" or "God" and wisdom taught in what we call today in some cultures " Mythology " stories and myths with enriched natural laws not to be broken . Look at what's happened now ?? Broken laws and wise teachings from ancestors that held the world in harmonic balance for thousands of years , through so called "Free Will" Man kind has jeapodised the very foundation and future , this is the crux of " Free Will "

Man takes birth, struggles for a living, enjoys a few pleasures, derives satisfaction and dies peacefully. Why complicate his mind with abstract phenomenon that no body is sure exists, like where from he came, what for he came and where is he going after death - all purposeless suppositions. If body and mind can be recognised, why create unknown dimensions that can not be percieved and worry posing questions because, there are no answers. Man has made life miserable by introducing such unknown parameters and laboured hard to answer them which interferes with his normal and purposeful present to an illusory future that he is not sure exists. Biologically man has evolved sufficiently to conduct himself in a way that peace and tranquility prevails among all living beings without the attraction of paradise or the fear of hell fire. After all all the scientists who lived befor us did not, loot, rape or murder though they never believed or prayed ! Philosophy is an idle mind's breed.

Your skpticism about the need to explore certain abstract concepts mirrors a philosophical inquiry in itself, albeit perhaps unconsciously so. Similarly, others might see value in exploring a variety of inquiries to deepen their understanding of existence. Everyday experiences often spark philosophical questions, whether we're aware of it or not. Contemplating the meaning of life, the essence of consciousness, or the nature of free will are all examples of these inquiries. While they may lack concrete, empirical answers, exploring them can enrich our understanding of ourselves, our place in the world, and our connection to others and the cosmos. So, instead of fearing ideas and thoughts, let's embrace them as sources of pleasure and enlightenment. I hope this answer resonates with you, and welcome to the channel

Is free will merely an illusion ? Yes and No. It is a matter of viewpoint and awareness. Most people are at a very low awareness level and constrained by agreement of a material universe in which case the perception of reality is solidity on the other hand fully aware of individual viewpoint is the truth behind what is perceived as reality and are not subject to the rules and laws that inhibit others freedom from it.
