"Verse Chorus Verse" was first recorded by Cobain in summer 1990 as an acoustic home demo. "Sliver" and "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" were also recorded for the demo, and both are included on With the Lights Out.
In March 1991, Nirvana recorded "Verse Chorus Verse" as part of the Boombox Rehearsals for Nevermind. All songs from the session are available on the deluxe edition of Nevermind.
In May 1991, Nirvana recorded a third version at Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, CA. This version was intended for Nirvana's second album, Nevermind. The song was not included on the album, but was later included on With the Lights Out.

What a lost classic... Kurt doing what he did best... Sounding great and excercising great use of song structure... He will always be remembered....

This song is so beautiful.
There's another studio recording of this song where Kurt toggles the pickup selector on his guitar in the middle of the opening riff. I used to have a copy of it, but I can't find it anywhere now. Maybe it'll pop up someday.

As mentioned in the other comments, there’s a second, much better outtake of this from the Nevermind sessions. It’s in standard tuning and uses the Big Muff for the chorus.
The production of Nevermind got in the way of his true song writing talent. It's just the get rich quick pop album that allowed the incredible production for In Utero. All the "lost" songs like Sappy and everying on the Incestiside compilation would have the attention craft needed.
This really should have been on Nevermind.

Lithium (I know it's in half step down tuning but I'm using standard tuning for this explanation) E, G#, C#, A, C, D, B,D When this is B, G, F#, E, B, C#, G#, F# I believe, Not really the same
