  the riff on 2:45 is very similar to the main riff on "Don't You Tell Me" of the 1996 DEP Sessions, probably at that time he didn't think he was going to release these recordings, although they probably should have already been leaked as "Eighth Star"

  I want to think this is a personal reflection of his mom and dad. Apparently they were not happy and Kurts dad got remarried and Kurts mom gave custody to his dad. Kurt loved his mom the most while his dad was abusive to Kurt, his mom and i think to his sister to. Maybe Kurt wanted to express his own sadness with the song. Especially for the first version in his resodence. Another could be with Courtney. He wanted to love but he got hurt way too many times from her and Kurt wanted to express that version. Kurt was happy with Francis but not with Courtney. Just two good guesses for the songs meaning
