【NINJYA】MEIFU SHINKAGE-RYU SHURIKEN JUTSU Yasuyuki Otsuka Special interview

【Video content】
The Meifu Shinkage Ryu (MSR) is a modern school of Shuriken Jutsu. It was founded by Dr. Chikatoshi Someya Sensei (Someya Chikatoshi) in the 1970s. Someya Sensei was a student of Yoshio Sugino Sensei of the Katori Shinto Ryu, although the throwing style used in Meifu Shinkage Ryu is different. Someya Sensei refined the Katori style of throwing, making it shorter, faster and more concealed. The Meifu Shinkage Ryu is a small school of about 30 students who train in Japan, under the instruction of the present Soke, Yasuyuki Ôtsuka Sensei. This school is almost entirely composed of students of other martial arts schools. Due to the continued hard work of Otsuka Sensei the MSR family is growing across the world and has training groups or Keikokai in many countries. At the present time the UK has the largest number of MSR members outside Japan. Sensei David Jackson of Inyoshin Dojo is a direct student of the present Soke. Ôtsuka Sensei welcomes students from any art or country. He calls himself a “shuriken teacher and researcher.” There is a specific kind of shuriken called a Meifu Shinkage Ryu shuriken, but Ôtsuka Sensei teaches and students will often practise throwing shuriken from many different schools, most of which are now extinct.

It is an incredibly awesome thing to have these arts and especially this one in particular being preserved and practiced to this day. The devotion and perseverance of this Master is very admirable. Thank you for this video!

A great man and a great school but Meifu Shinkage Ryu has nothing to do with ninja, it's a school based on Samurai tradition.

Agreed. Katori Shinto Ryu is the root art. A Samurai School.
