Vertebral endplate disease: Vertebral endplate disease refers to degenerative changes in the cartilage-covered surfaces of the vertebral bodies. These changes can lead to inflammation and nerve compression, causing sciatica.
Ligamentum flavum hypertrophy: The ligamentum flavum is a thick ligament that runs along the back of the spinal canal. Hypertrophy or thickening of this ligament can reduce the space available for the nerve roots and the sciatic nerve, leading to sciatica.
SI joint dysfunction: Dysfunction or inflammation of the sacroiliac (SI) joints can irritate the sciatic nerve as it passes nearby, resulting in sciatica symptoms.
