Nikon Z9 Wildlife - Dance of the Wolf Spider

You might believe it or not spiders can be cute and funny. This video shows the Dance of the male wolf spider to convince its female counterpart to engage in a rendezvous. For this he puts up a super dynamic dance with an amazing rhythm and dynamic arm motions !! While the female spider chases him away in the beginning she finally takes a closer look. This can be good or bade for the even smaller male - you see that he lost a leg in one of his previous encounters.
What is in the video:

Spider Habitat: 02:56
Pardosa Agricola is a tiny wolf spider (7 mm and 5 mm body size for female and male spiders) and quite common in Germany. It lives close to water where it actively hunts similar to all wolf spiders like its big brother (tarantula). The females also protect their cocoon and carry their off-spring around also similar to the bigger wolf spider commonly found more south.
In order to enhance the magnification of the MC Z 100 I added extension tubes to reach 1.5:1 and 2:1 magnifications leading to the frame filling pictures. I filmed in Nikon’s Nraw Nlog profile using extension tubes. All shots including the stacked ones were done without a tripod and without flash. We clearly see an amazing combined image stabilization of the VR and the Z9.

Great video! What lens do you use? Because the Spider seems little!

It is the Nikon Z MC 105 VR to which I have added extension tubes - typically 29 mm yielding magnifications larger 1 to 1 (about 1.5 to 1). On the stacked picture of the female spider I used 58 mm tubes (about 2 to 1 magnification). The body size of the spiders are 5 mm (male) and 7 mm (female) - so with these magnifications you get frame filling pictures. All pictures are taken handheld.

Yes this is tough (which extension tube length are you using ?) ! I often use the camera lens after a manual prefocus to give me 30 pictures for stacking and then either increase the depth of sharpness or pick the picture I like. Also this helps against small movements of the subject. All the best Michael

@@artesorobaserria Thank you !! I am planning to do a more extensive video on Makro with the Nikon Z system. I think 1,5 :1 with a 200 mm lens is really great !!
