I just purchase mine about 3 weeks ago and have been setting up your suggesstions! Being a very new Z9 user, when I started looking at the menus, I was finding it very overwhelming! Great tips so tempted to move over from shooting canon for years simply for birds and the zero rolling shutter and also the z800mm f6.3 that would be my combo and lighter than my current ef 500 f4 is on the r6/7

The i menu Is very easy to set up and usually would be very specific to type of photography one does. However, I may create one in the future just to provide an overview of setting up an i menu.

Thanks for a useful video. Another mistake, akin to the buttons and I Menu, is not configuring the shooting banks for different scenarios, this is like having 4 cameras and 4 video recorders 😊

Thx great video indeed much appreciated. i am finding that when i take a pic, and then look at what i have just taken the camera takes pics without me pressing the shutter button??? is there a setting that i have pressed that i obviously dont know about? thx your input would be appreciated!

If I don’t lock the vertical grip shutter button, I frequently press on the shutter button (with inside of my hand) not even realizing that. That’s most common issues. Hope this fixes your concern.

I've just bumped into your videos for the first time. Well done. Looking into the purchase of a Z9 now. Sure wish I could find a used one with low shutter count but it seems people are so happy with this camera there are no used Z9's to be found. ;) New will have to do.

Thank you. Yeah, the Z9 is a champ! There is so much packed into the camera, it’s hard to wrap your head around it at first. I haven’t seen any used Z9 on the market. It’s also hard to assess shutter counts as the Z9 does not have a shutter mech, I guess you call it shutterless!

@Touch Life Studio Thanks for that heads-up on shutter count. It has been a good way to first judge a camera's possible condition. That's out the window now. How long do electronic shutters last now? I seem to remember something about using the electric shutter but turning it off when nit needed. D850.

Nice video my man- question about the CFexpress cards. I don't do video, but still want a larger card- but I'm fearful of the investment if it goes bad (i had SD cards get weird on me in past after use in extreme cold). I'd rather carry 4 160 GB cards than risk a 500+GB card going bad on me- but this might be my paranoia and CFexpress cards are built better? Also, i bought 3 of the sandisk cards you showed, but unfortunately they struggle in my Z9 at high FPS. I have an angelbird and prograde that i have yet to slowdown during use. Does that sandisk work good in your body and did you change something, if so? I'm about to put 2 of the sandisks on ebay (keeping one as they are fine in my Z6II) and buy another angelbird, prograde, or maybe try a delkin black.

I use SanDisk for regular photography, while I have done some sports shooting, it is far in between for me. If all you do is photo, agree don’t need 256 and 512 GB cards. 128 GB or 160 GB is enough. You may want to try the ProGrade card for your use case. But also, with SandDisc cards, when I shoot sports I don’t keep my shutter press for too long either as in most cases it’s not practical (for me). I get ready for another shot. So far, I haven’t had any CF express cards fail on me but that’s not to say it will never happen. Hence, 2 cards slots for redundancy. Best of shooting to you.

I've been using Anglebird CF Express 512gb cards for 179.99 @ B&H Camera store and it is the best in Video and Stills and have not gotten hot on my Nikon Z9 or had any issues with errors...................

@@TouchLifeStudio Yes the redundancy of 2 CFexpress cards is one of the many advantages of the Z9 over the Z8. I’m so glad I went with the Z9 after comparing them. The benefits are so great compared to the small price difference.

@@m.maclean8911 I can see your logic. Once you are at $4k it’s not that far to $5.5k but for many it still makes a difference. Yes, redundancy is very crucial. I just wish Z9 had redundancy for video. Perhaps a firmware update thing. 🤔🤷

Lovely, been using Z9 for now more than 8 months but this video has opened my eyes to 2 new facets : A ) Choosing the Right type of CF Express Cards Type B & Higher Storage & Selecting the Right Format for Videography.. Can you kindly also let me know if I Could Playback the 4K & 8K Videos on my Mac with the M1 Chip? & B ) Customising my Wildlife Photography Settings in the i menu & which Settings should I Customise in the i menu? Thank you Jamal for the kind works. To answer your question regarding playback of 8K with M1 chip. So I use 2018 Mac and can playback 8K files well, and certainly 4K. So, I imagine using M1 chip would not be a problem. M1 chip is newer tech. I believe you RAM needs to be sufficient, at least 16, maybe 32.

And regarding the wildlife settings, much depends on a lens you have. I don’t do a whole lot of wild life, but I do sports. For fast moving objects, I recommend using at least high shutter speed to freeze the motion. Such as at least 1/800 sec. Depending on available light and your max aperture, you may need to raise your ISO, which is perfectly fine, probably up to about 640 or 800 for clean files. Hope this helps. If I knew more of your current situation, I could provide additional guidance.

@@FantabMedia Certainly, Autofocus works brilliant with clear skies or a clear background when using autofocus full in Wide Large & Animal Tracking on , but starts taking a bad toll when there is grass swaying or a movement before the subject, so the best option is to take it to single point focus

One “big mistake” I’d put on my list would be using 3d tracking TOO much! People are using it during times where they’d have a much better result starting with one of the auto area modes.

Totally agree! I keep my back-button AF on 3D and have C1 set to subject detection so I can quickly switch back and forth

Maybe you are right, but I think 3D works very well as of fw 3.1

for mistake 1 I must report a misinformation or lack of information said on video, the USB-A to USB-C cable does have a PD compatible model, the cable that cames with my smartphone, for example, is compatible with 90W PD and the charger is 90W

The Z9II won’t appear for at least next 2-3 years. There is a chance the Z8 will be announced this year.

@Sunny Young There may be more reasons, but Z9 demand was just recently met and they're still perfecting firmware. I was lucky and found one in stock early october. I had pre ordered from multiple places to increase my odds and when calling my local shop to cancel my pre-order, they told me person in front of me had been waiting 3 months. The jump from a Z7II to Z9 is large and i believe the Z8 is supposed to bridge that gap. Honestly the Z9 is way above my skill level, but i wanted best available.

@Touch Life Studio i love it and only complaint is my Z6II seems to have less noise at higher ISO, but luckily i kept that body as the first offer i received to sell it was laughable (900USD, body was 2 months old and in mint condition. They would have had to do nothing to it and turned around to sell for around 1700 USD- at the time, i think Z6II body price dropped a bit since then).

Nice video - terrible music. Having music playing while talking is distracting.

Mistake No6 saying giga when you meant to say terra ?

You are better off not charging with a cable at all, but instead use the supplied charger. Should the battery overheat for some reason then it’s better to damage the charger, rather than the £5000 camera! Also there’s always the possibility of the cable getting knocked or tripped over.. pulling the camera to the floor. My previous camera (D7500) didn’t even come with a charger so I had to buy one (after watching a KZread video explaining the above) but Nikon have given us a charger this time with the Z9, so we might as well use it 👍 Cheers Steve

How have they held up so far? The sandisk he showed didn't do well in my Z9, but I've had an angelbird and prograde not stumble at 20fps

I bought one ProGrade Cobalt 325 GB card(minimum sustained write speed of 1300 Mbps) and one ProGrade Gold 512 GB (minimum sustained write speed of 850 Mbps). The Gold 512 GB will be in secondary slot.

the sensor gets dirty very quickly and the cleaning function isn't great.

There's a menu setting that closes a plastic shutter over the sensor when camera is powered off (this was not default setting when i bought mine). If one turns this setting on and remembers to turn camera off between lens changes- I'm not sure how it'd get dirty unless being used in extreme conditions such as a sandstorm. Hope this helps.

Data per second is not specific for Nikon Z9, that is zhe fact with any camera which record that codecs.

Amazing camera but for video you might rather get an BMPCC4K since still an awesome cinema camera with an unbeatable image quality at that price!

you can not use the focus and shoot manually? well no need for an Amateur camera, this is back to square one

On my Z9 after 10 month light sensor went down . Nikon service refused to fix it. Because electrical shutter it's very limited camera .I was Nikon guy for many years. They service turn me to Sony. I love A1 for many reasons. Now my $30k equipment from Nikon Z going for sale

In my country there is at least a one year full replacement warranty. If they can't fix it - new camera. What Nikon gear do you have for sale? Where can I buy it?

These cameras come with a 1 year warranty where I'm from and there are plenty of entities that will fight for you if a company doesn't hold up their end of a bargain like this. Not sure if situation is same where you're at, BUT I'd fight if possible. This gear is expensive enough to be worth contacting a lawyer. Sometimes a letter is enough to get someone to act right.

When will Americans learn to pronounce Nikon? Well, not just that, there are tons of examples....

Not accusing you of this, but I'd love to hear your reasoning? Mine is new enough that i could get most of my investment back if you provide enough verifiable facts to change my mind.

People that make these mistakes probably bought the wrong camera. The Z9 is a fantastically capable camera but its not for everyone ... 🦘

I learned in another YT video you should use wide instead of 3D in combination with animal eyetracking. Which one is the better option? I practice dogphotography. Thanks ever so much for letting me know.

@Yolanda Hermans Yolanda, i haven't had this camera long and haven't used it on as many moving subjects as I'd like. Make sure you have newest firmware (3.1 at time of writing this) and try both. I believe the answer to this question is more of a personal preference than a concrete consensus. Dogs are my fav to photograph too and the 3D tracking alone has worked best for me so far on anything moving.
