ATTENTION:
The "big-is" adapters are not available anymore. I now switched to "K&F concept" ones, which also work nicely. Not as cheap - But just a few bucks more expensive (and the quality is quite good).

    Good to hear that you like the Big-is adapters - All my adapters are still from Big-is btw. - Just be aware that the older C/Y Big-is was a little bit on the "too stiff" side. So kindly ask for the newer model, if you order one (as that one is working perfectly) ^^.

    Yes. It´s for sure the updated version. (Which is maybe even nicer to use. Because now there are also numbers and an indicator of your actual aperture ring position on the adapter.)

    Hi, thanks for the review. I found a quick fix for the focus problem of the Fotga adapter (iris control version). it probably works on all of them. I used mine with the tokina 11-16 and it refused to focus at 11mm (not even at infinity). at 16 it had no problem. so i removed the metal mount (4 screws) and added a plastic spacer (1mm or thinner) between the mount and the adapter tube. screw the mount back on and voila it works flawlessly from 11 to 16. i can focus as close as it would on any nikon camera. tested on a 50 mm as well and it's good.

    Yes. Spacers are a solutoin. But it´s annoying, that many of the adapters are not better from scratch on ^^ - The Big-is adapters are still the best (cheap) option I know of. Btw.: Also a problem is (often), to find compatible spacers (which are not too thick and which are completely even - Because otherwise the focus plane is offset - So one side or one edge is sharper than the rest - which is also not nice to have). Btw.: Also nice is, to readjust the LENSES directly - That´s way easier and you can adjust them nearly 100% perfect. But that´s not possible with every lens. But it´s working for example with many older fixed focal length primes (Tokina RMC, Contax / Yashica and so on). And it´s quite easy to do that. Only release a few screws and you get perfect infinity adjusted lenses ^^. (Just mentioned as a side note.)

    Will the Big is AI mount work on a Nikon F mount pre 1977 non al? Kenrockwell . com has info on this.These lenses have an aperture coupling prong just below f/5.6. When used on cameras made before 1977, you had to "index" the lens to the camera's meter by mounting the lens and then remembering to rotate the lens to its largest aperture and back (f/2 in this case) so that the meter was properly calibrated.

    Why are there adapters only for certain brands such as "Nikon Lens to Canon camera" or "Hasselblad lens to Nikon camera"? Why isn't there for instance Canon lens to Nikon? Any technical or commercial explanation?

  • @AustrianGeek
    @AustrianGeek10 жыл бұрын

    Yes. Sure. You can also use the oldest Nikon-F lenses on this adapter. It´s just called "Ai to m4/3", because it´s not equipped with the aperture control ring (which is needed for the newer AF "G" lenses). I already used older (than "Ai") lenses with it - They work fine! Btw.: The metering & indexing is only important with Nikon bodies! So not at all with the adapter. BUT be careful if you want to use these lenses on modern Nikon bodies too! If that´s the case, DEFINITELY get Ai or Ai-S lenses!

    Sure. You just need one of those versions with an aperture ring on the adapter directly. Then also AF-S and AF-D are working (not only Ai and AiS with the aperture ring on the lenses). If your want to get something at a very low price search for the Commlite AF-S MFT adapter - Its looking like this: amzn.to/2QN3Zie - Although the metabones is of a higher quality: amzn.to/2A680IX - THOUGH: At this price point you can also go for a focal reducer version (which is similar to the Metabones SpeedBooster - But WAY cheaper): amzn.to/2A6R852 I used the EF-M2 a few times (which is the Canon EF to Micro 4/3 version from Viltrox) and the glass / focal reducer quality is quite good. Its only a few bucks more expensive than the Commlite and WAY cheaper even than the Metabones without glass. And the reduction glass gives you 1 stop more light AND a 0.71 times wider field of view. Also quite nice to have. And ALL lenses should work on it (on the NF-M43X from Viltrox). Btw.: All manual - So no AF and automatic aperture control. BUT you get the way better (numbered) aperture contorol ring (on all of the mentioned adapters). Way better than the solution(s) I showed in this video (which is super old already) ^^. Check out maybe some reviews here on KZread. And have fun shooting (!) LG

    @@nerdMike Ah. Yeah - Also ok. Looks quite similar to the Novoflex ^^. Just keep the NF-M43X in your backhead for the future (in case you also want an adapter with reduction glass). Maybe you can also find one used on ebay at a bargain. Funnily the Nikon adapters are WAY cheaper than EF ones (it seems more people are adapting EF glass because of the compatibility of AF and stabilisation - At least with the electronical EF adapters like the ones from Viltrox). Btw.: Yes. You can still use the ring on the lens (in case of AF-D, Ai and AiS lenses). Just set the adapter to full open - Then you can use the stepped rings on the lenses. LG

I want to be able to use my sigma 18-35 nikon f mount on my Samsung nx1. will I be able to control the aperture with the novoflex adapter? and is there any negatives with the novoflex adapter? is there any vignetting or focus distance differences ?

  • @AustrianGeek

    @AustrianGeek

    8 жыл бұрын

    Sure it´s possible with the Novoflex (at least if you talk about the blue ring Nikon G version). But it´s quite expensive. You can also try out the other ones (just search for "Nikon G NX" or "Nikon G NX1"). You should find a few options around 20 to 30 bucks. Negatives shouldn´t be the case with any adapter. The Novoflex is just of an higher quality (coating and overall quality wise). Focus distance differences are sometimes the case yes. But that´s a possible problem with any adapter (as it´s often the case because of the lenses - Not just the adapter. And AF lenses are often going beyond infinity -> Because it makes no difference in AF operation.)

    Sure you can use your 35-70mm F2.8 Nikkor D lens with the adapter. But it´s quite huge and bulky (and it´s a push / pull lens). Maybe it´s a little bit too "unhandy" on a Micro 4/3 body. (I like to use primes overall - Better image quality, more light-gathering and they are fitting better on Micro 4/3 cameras.) Btw.: You don´t even need a Nikon-G adapter (the "standard" edition without the aperture control ring is also enough, as the 35-70mm is coming with an aperture control ring already on the lens directly).

    +Tamás Gulyás In general yes (the Nikon G model of the adapter. BUT: I would go for a used Metabones Nikon G adapter instead (if you can find one cheap / used). They are more expensive - But you also get a way better aperture control (through the numbers printed onto the aperture control ring AND because they are using a different mechanical system - So you´re getting a longer throw on the ring to control it more precise). It´s "big-is" btw. (not big-in). ^^ The big-is is also ok - But you cannot control the aperture that precise - AND you never know where you are (aperture wise). You can still make your own markings though ^^.

    Paul Anderson Well - Am I understanding right? You have already the Nikon F to EF adapter in use with a Nikon lens set (on the C100 and 5D). And you´re searching for a good adapter for an EOS-M body - Right? If yes: Well. My favorite company was always BIG-IS. But it seems like they are not producing EOS-M adapters. In general just search for a NIKON G to EOS-M adapter on ebay. That way, you also get the option to control the aperture over the adapter directly - Just don´t get a FOTGA adapter. I am not a fan of them (the quality was quite low on both adapters I had from them) ... Btw.: A short tip - Try a new browser / reset browser (without being logged into Ebay) - So you also see ALL the available auctions on ebay.com (sometimes a few are blocked as soon as you´re logged in - Especially, if you´re located in the EU for example.) I hope that helps. Sorry that I cannot help you with a more detailed product ^^. But just try one out - You can get such adapters already for about 15 to 20$ (incl. shipment). So BY FAR not as expensive as the NOVOFLEX or METABONES for example ... LG

    Hi again. Many thanks for your response. I have the adapter which allows me to use the Nikon FE lens on my old Canon EOS SLR. That's all fine. But I wanted another that I could use for the Canon C100 or 5D, thinking I needed an adapter for a Canon "mirrorless" DSLR, and bought the Novoflex adapter featured in your tutorial. But it doesn't fit the Canon C100 lens mount. So I wondered if the original adapter that I use for the SLR works on the DSLRs also? Thanks also for the advice on buying cheaper via Ebay. Hmm. Ok. A few corrections / general infos: Nikon uses the F mount / bajonett. FE is from Sony (and means "full frame E mount"). Just so you know about that (for the future). Btw.: Nikon G also means Nikon F - That´s important according the adapters, as the "G" only means, that there is also an aperture control ring on the adapter DIRECTLY (and none on the Nikon G lenses any more). Only the older AF, AF-D, Ai and AiS lenses have that. About your adapter: That one fits the C100 AND the Canon 5D - Both use the same bajonett (the 5D is compatible to EF lenses only - But the C100 to both - EF and EF-S - So ANY Canon EF adapter and lens will fit the C100, as there are no EF-S adapters out there on the market). Just try it out. It will fit ^^. Btw.: About "mirrorless" Canons: Don´t confuse the systems. The C100 is also coming without a mirror - Yes. But it´s using the same bajonett as the DSLR lineup (so everyone can still use their DSLR lenses - Even without an adapter). But there´s also Canons "real" mirrorless lineup (which is coming with another bajonett - The "EF-M") and which is competing with the other mirrorless systems on the market (Sony E, Nikon 1, Micro 4/3 and so on). But these aren´t important for you (if you only want to use the 5D and C100). ^^ To summarise: EF is fitting EF and EF-S (as it covers full frame - AND EF-S is representing the APS-C systems). EF-S is fitting only EF-S (as the lenses only cover APS-C - And on full frame they wouldn´t be usable). EF-M is a new format - For which you get an adapter from Canon directly (to mount EF and EF-S lenses). But that´s not important for you actually - It´s only interesting if you search for a super light stills-camera to travel with (the new EOS M3 came out not long ago btw. ^^). About the Novoflex adapter: Hmm. Did you buy the exactly same one as in the video? If yes, then it´s the Nikon F to Micro 4/3 adapter (which is meant for the Micro 4/3 bajonett). You can sell it quite easily though (as many people don´t know of the cheaper chinese adapter-options ^^). So: Just use your existing adapter. (Hmm. Maybe that would have been enough from scratch on *g* - Sorry for the long text - Thank god KZread allows this now ^^.) LG

  • @AustrianGeek

    @AustrianGeek

    8 жыл бұрын

    +ScreenHackTV Well - For newer lenses (with aperture control over the adapter only) I would go for the Metabones adapters instead. They offer a WAY better aperture control ring (than the cheaper adapters). Why the metabones? -> Because you get more control distance (more degrees to control the aperture over the aperture control ring on the adapter). AND also an indication how much stops you changed is printed on them. With the cheaper adapters it´s also possible (if you want to save a few bucks). But you never know, where you are according the actual aperture state. You don´t need to go for the "SpeedBooster" btw. (which is way more expensive with the optical reducer glass). Metabones also offers an passive adapter (without glass) for way less money. If it´s not THAT relevant to get it as fast (and as cheap) as possible, then you can also start to search for a used one (on Ebay or in online communities for example). Used prices are around 60 to 80 bucks for such adapter models. Or you can also go for a used SpeedBooster model (with x0.71 reducer glass in it). But they sell for at least 200 bucks (or more). If you just want an "super cheap" adapter, you could go for the Big-Is yes. Or I also use PIXCO lately - They are quite ok too (if Big-Is isn´t offering the right adapter anymore).

  • @AustrianGeek

    @AustrianGeek

    10 жыл бұрын

    No. I haven´t - As it´s not compatible to "G" lenses like the Novoflex. And for standard Ai,Ai-S and AF-D lenses (with an aperture ring), the Big-is adapter also was "more than enough" til now. Especially also, because it´s WAY cheaper than the Metabones - Nearly 10 times (!) cheaper. BUT: A Metabones version would be interesting, if they make an affordable Nikon G to MFT version - Without a glass - But with the same (nice) aperture control ring (incl. printed steps) - Like it´s the case with the SpeedBooster Edition. Maybe there´s such a version coming (who knows) ... Btw.: The Big-is adatper (Ai to MFT for example without an aperture ring) is also THAT cheap, so you can really buy multiple ones. So you also don´t need to swicht always the adapter from lens to lens (and so it´s also not a problem at all, that the Big-is adapter is maybe not as good quality wise as the Metabones). But if you want to try out the Metabones -> Just post your experience here - Maybe it´s helpful for someone else too ^^.

  • @AustrianGeek
    @AustrianGeek9 жыл бұрын

    Ananda Sim Btw.: If you want a VERY NICE (high quality) aperture control, try out the new edition of the Metabones Nikon-G adapters. You can get them used around 80 bucks from time to time - And the new edition offers finer aperture control (a longer throw of the aperture control ring!) - AND you get markings (so you know, where you are) - Full and half stops are marked! It´s the same like on the Nikon-G to Micro 4/3 SpeedBooster / focal reducer. www.metabones.com/products/details/MB_NFG-m43-BM1 But this only makes sense if you plan to keep the Nikon glass and use it quite intensively. For trying out lenses, the cheap adapters are also "enough" - But if you shoot more often (and don´t want to risk that the aperture ring is moving / repositioned too easily), then the Metabones makes sense. Just as a side info (for the future maybe). ^^

    i'm going to buy lens Sigma 18-35 f1.8 Rokinon Cine DS 14mm T3.1 Rokinon Cine DS 85mm T1.5 so you think i should get these lenses in EF mount or Nikon G mount lenses?

  • @AustrianGeek

    @AustrianGeek

    9 жыл бұрын

    RizHail Well - If you want to adapt them to Micro 4/3 I personally would go for the Nikon-G versions. The EF version of the 18-35mm F1.8 would be only controllable over an electronic adapter (as it´s not coming with an aperture control ring on the lens directly). And actually only the Metabones EF to Micro 4/3 SpeedBooster is offering such electronic connections (and the Aputure DEC and DEC Pro adapter - Which are also quite expensive - AND also a little bit bulky). With the Nikon-G versions you just need a passive adapter. The best would be the Metabones Nikon-G to Micro 4/3 adapter. Not dirt cheap (like the chinese versions). But you get a WAY finer aperture control (as it has a longer control ring throw - And it also stays in place way better than the cheaper ones). And also nice with the Metabones: You get markings (so you know where you are actually aperture wise) - PLUS you also get a stepless aperture control (and you can control the aperture ALWAYS - Also while shooting (!) Btw.: I wouldn´t go for the 14mm T3.1 - It´s not supporting front filters. It´s maybe better to go for another super wide lens - Maybe the Tokina 11-16mm or the new updated 11-20mm F2.8 lenses. With them you at least get the option to mount a filter - AND they are even wider than the Rokinon / Samyang 14mm ^^.

    RizHail Btw.: Forgot to mention: One pro the EF mount has - You can also mount stabilized lenses (with lens-internal optical stabilizer). If you want to use such lenses, the EF version is more or less the only option. Though: As said already - They are quite pricey (!)

  • @AustrianGeek

    @AustrianGeek

    9 жыл бұрын

    Yes. You can also use Nikon to EF adapters (if you want to rent them out to Canon guys). On the other hand you cannot rent out EF lenses to Nikon guys - So with the Nikon versions you´re also more universal according that aspect ^^. Btw.: You can use classical Nikon to EF adapters for the Rokinon / Samyang lenses (as they have aperture control rings) - And a Nikon-G to EF for the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 (IF you want to use it too on EF - somewhere in the future.) Nikon-G to EF adapters are not perfect - But they are also working as they should ^^. About the Tokina lenses: Well - They are mechanically quite ok I have to say. About the focus ring: Yes. It´s not the most stable one. But as far as I know it´s more problematic if you switch excessively inbetween AF and MF - OR if you get dust inside your lens. It´s for sure also not the best lens together with a motorized aka remote follow focus unit. But hey - If you zoom manually, just don´t apply that much force ^^.

    you are right and also wrong on Tokina 11-20mm f2.8 vs Rokinon / Samyang 14mm t3.1 thing. BUT Tokina 16-28 f2.8 and Rokinon / Samyang 14mm t3.1 (f2.8) are FULL FRAME. hence they can be used on all Sensor Size cameras.

    +RizHail Hmm. My actual choice would be: 1.) Canon EF to Micro 4/3 (without focal reducer) -> COMMLITE EF-MFT adapter (offers electronic control of the aperture) (If you really only need a passive adapter you could go for a PIXCO or a BIG-IS - Though the BIG-IS are actually sold out as far as I can see. BASICALLY you could also go for any other adapter - Just avoid FOTGA - The quality was quite bad - At least in the past. And COMPARE the adapters before buying. If you see cheap materials like a fiddly lens release or fewer & cheap looking screws - Then I personaly would avoid it. It´s also better to buy adapters of a brand of ANY KIND - The completely "no name" ones are sometimes of a lower quality - At least the risk is higher ^^.) 2.) Nikon to M4/3 (with aperture ring) -> Don´t buy a cheap adapter. Go for the Metabones Nikon-G to MFT adapter. The aperture control ring is WAY BETTER than the standard ones. You get the stops printed on the adapter (which helps ALOT). AND even more important - The mechanics are more stable (you don´t change the aperture by fault / touching the ring accidently for example). Also important: The control "distance" is also bigger - So you can control the aperture mechanics more precise. Too bad, that COMMLITE is only production a Nikon G to Sony-E mount "copy" of the Metabones adapters. But hey - From time to time you can get one used for about 50 to 60 bucks - Just check out Ebay from time to time (or enable the built in "price-watcher"). Btw.: My modification still helps alot (with super cheap adapters). BUT: The Metabones solution is still WAY better in every aspect (!) 3.) According Nikon G to Canon EF: Ok. There I cannot give you any recommendation (as I only work with system cameras - more or less - Sony E, Micro 4/3 and Fuji-X mounts). But keep in mind (that I can tell you): The adapters are always REALLY fiddly to use (Nikon G to EF) - As there is no way to know where you are aperture wise. And mounting / unmounting of these super thin adapters is often quite annoying (I know one with an 18-35mm F1.8 and such an adapter) ^^. If you only need it for the GH4 -> DON`T STACK ADAPTERS (!) It´s overall not a good idea (because not perfectly aligned mounts of the adapters can make things REALLY BAD. Because: For example the image plane is then offset completely - One side or edge is completely unsharp.) AND if you planned to use the Nikon G to EF + EF to MFT adapter together - As said above - Nikon G to EF is not a good idea from scratch on. Just go for an EF to MFT and for a used Metabones Nikon G to MFT adapter. (If you want to try out electronic lenses - Go for the COMMLITE EF to MFT electronic adapter. It´s at least working VERY GOOD with the Sony E mounts - Altough don´t expect AF - Only image stabilisation and aperture control is working.) Hope that helps ^^. LG

    +AustrianGeek I am not from USA, but i got once chance of buying stuff via USA because someone is coming from USA to my country. Importing thing has VERY VERY HIGH CUSTOM TAX in my country. now, the QUESTION #1: for my condition stated above i got once chance to buy all the equipment. my friends have Canon Cameras, i can borrow Canon Lenses sometimes. Bu my purpose of getting Nikon G to EF mount is not for GH4, but to use Sigma 18-35 f1.8 on canon camera if needed. Till now i have only Purchased the Camera GH4. I have NOT purchased Lenses or Focal Reducer adapter yet. My Camera: Panasonic GH4 [Bought already] My Lenses: 1. Sigma 18-35 f1.8 (Nikon mount) [Yet to buy] 2. Rokinon Cine DS 14mm T3.1 (Canon EF mount) [Yet to buy] 3. Rokinon Cine DS 85mm T1.5 (Canon EF mount) [Yet to buy] My FOCAL REDUCER Adapter: Mitakon Zhongyi - Canon EF Lens to Micro Four Thirds Camera Lens Turbo Adapter Mark I MFR # MTKLTM1EFM43 [Yet to buy] QUESTION #2: 1. Sigma 18-35 f1.8 Nikon Mount is not what i want, but high price on electronic adapter on Metabones is holding me back. i will need $1,000 EXTRA just on adapters (Metabones EF to MFT Speed booster $600 + Metabones EF to MFT $400) to use my $600 Sigma 18-35 f1.8. NOTE: i do NOT need Auto Focus, i just want Electronic Aperture control and Image Stabilization on Sigma 18-35 f1.8 for GH4 on EF Mount that's it. rest Rokinon/Samyang lenses are totally manual you can see, QUESTION #3: is their any alternative/substitute for zoom lens for Sigma 18-35 f1.8 for GH4 and Canon camera??

    +RizHail Oh. I oversaw you message / answer. Sorry. (Just checking the cache / history actually so I don´t oversee anyone). About the topic: I hope I am not too late for my answer (it has been quite a while since my last answer). Well - You can also buy a used EF to MFT SpeedBooster. I mean - At least here in europe they sell now quite cheap. (Especially since there is the new S version out and the XL reducer -> The special GH4 EF to MFT SpeedBooster with 0.64x reduction an over 1 stop of light gain.) With the "straight" EF lineup it´s then also easier to work on Canon bodies. Just keep that in mind. If you´re using already the Nikon Version and you´re happy with that solution (+ Nikon to EF adapter) - Also fine ^^. Keep in mind btw.: The Sigma 18-35 F1.8 isn´t coming with image stabilisation. So the electronic adapter is only offering aperture control (and lens data for your pictures). Btw.: A replacement for the 18-35mm F1.8 isn´t available - It´s just a REALLY unique lens. Sure - You could try to replace it with primes. But it´s nearly impossible to get the same quality at the same price (and you don´t get the convenience of a super fast super high quality zoom) ^^. Sorry again for my late repaly. LG

    Hello,I'm pretty sure I know the answer to my question (which will be no) but I thought I'd double check.Are there any xxx to M4/3 adapters with an electronic connection so the lens can talk to the body so I could use my brothers range of lenses on my M4/3? I am certain these don't exist, but maybe there's something out there.Thanks for your time.

    +Peter Murrell Well - The only (actual) adapters are EF to Micro 4/3 adapters (which are sharing electronic connection to the Micro 4/3 body). So you could use the lenses of your brother - But only if he is using Canon lenses. And don´t expect that you will get autofocus with them. They are used more or less only to control the (electronical controlled) aperture, to power the image stabilizer of the lenses over the adapter AND to get the actual information of your lens (to "burn them" into your image data -> Lens aperture, actual focal length and lens model / type for example). Hope that helps ^^.
