Nikon 18-200 Lens - Review w/ Sample Shots (Photo Adventure)

Ғылым және технология

I took a photo adventure and decided to pair my entry level Nikon D3400 my Nikon 18-200 zoom lens (f/3.5-f/5.6). The 18-200 range offers great versatility and solid optics ... lots of fun to shoot!:) Regardless of your camera body (Nikon, Canon, Sony, Panasonic, etc.), consider a wide range zoom lens if you are short on space and want to stay with one lens.

    Based partly on this video I purchased this lens and I love it! The price is reasonable for the original VR lens and I've already decided that it will be my 'walkaround' lens. I also have a battery back with the main advantages being the wider grip plus a remote shutter release. The extra width of the grip makes a huge difference in the 'balance' of this lens/D5600 combo. Thanks again for the great videos- I re-run yours all the time as they remind me of things I've forgotten plus they give me an incentive to get out there and 'have some fun.'

    Bought this lens a few years back and no regrets. It is nice to carry just one lens, especially when you're out hiking. So glad you put in the safety message. Whether you're going out alone, or in a group of two or three, always let someone know where your going, and when you expect to be back. Think too many people expect WiFi from their phones to show their location, but in many places, there is none. Great video!

    Thanks for the post/feedback Christy!:) When I first started using the lens, I rarely switch it from the body - a great all around lens. I plan to review the 18-140 in the next few days and will release a video shortly after ... curious to see how it performs in the wild as I head back to the mountainous area for some backcountry camping:). Safety is key and you are correct - many people rely too heavily on their cell phones. Cell coverage in the backwoods is nonexistent for the most part.

Nonetheless, if wanted more range, I would consider the Nikon 18-300 ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/fmdtutSmfqzWc9o.html ), however if I were considering the 18-300, I would take a strong look at the Tamron 18-400 ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/dZp4yNdxo66Tn5M.html ). The 18-400 is a solid lens and offers great zoom - it feels solid/great in the hands. If it were me and I wanted a greater zoom range, I might lean towards the 18-400:).

    Glad to be of help!:) The 18-300 and fixed 50 serve two different purposes. The 18-300 is more flexible as it offers a wide zoom range, however the fixed 50 is great for portraits and any other need to leverage a wide aperture. If you do not mind swapping lenses between the 18-55 and 70-300, I might lean towards the fixed 50 although this means you may need to carry 3 lenses with you:).

    Where you generally focuses in landscape photography and how you decide aperature for getting sharpest images sir??

  • @MrMiss-cp9bw

    @MrMiss-cp9bw

    3 жыл бұрын

    I haven't done much landscape photography, but I would imagine he's picking a target in the distance and maybe selecting it with one of the focus points (i.e if its to one of the sides, and not in the center). Or simply using manual focus and setting it to infinity 😁 But I reckon it also depends on what you're actually taking a photo off. If the horizon is involved, I *think* higher aperture is needed, opposed to i.e 6:59 - I think focus was on the rock/trees in the foreground (plus retouching in lightroom), so the smaller f number/blurred background isn't interfering with the entire subject (what I mean is: The background isn't so blurred, you can't tell what the entire picture is, but the trees in the background are still not crisp, while still making a great photo). Aperture dictates "sharpness"/level of blur, so about 7'ish and higher will make it so the foreground/background doesn't get blurred out, in contrast to some of the shots he took where he's focusing on something in the foreground (like 5:11). Bleh this is just a long ramble, and probably didn't answer any of your questions 😁

    Hello. I have a Nikon d3300 and a Nikon 50mm 1.8g and a Nikon 55-200mm Vr2. I miss something wider at the bottom. Sometimes I take photos at birthdays, sometimes in an amateur studio. I would like to buy a nikon 18-200mm vr. Will it be as good at longer focal length as the Nikon 55-200? I usually use 100mm to 200mm focal lengths for portraiture. I need something wider for special occasions. Will switching from 55-200 to 18-200 be good. I don't want to invest in a few lenses. I would have 18-200mm as a walking lens + 50mm 1.8g for a portrait. What's your opinion? Thanx

    Jungle Safari sounds awesome for photos!:) This might be too late but I might suggest aperture priority and manually control the ISO using the side function button. You may want to open the aperture wide and control the ISO to get the shutter speed you desire (fast moving subjects will require a faster shutter 1/200 or more). Enjoy the experience and be safe!:)

    This might be a bit late depending on your time zone:). The 300 is good but you might need a 2x teleconverter to get even closer to the moon. I might suggest the following settings/setup to start: sturdy tripod, manual mode, ISO 100 (feel free to move up to 200 or 400), 1/40 of sec, and open the aperture as wide as you can:). I took a shot of moon using the P1000 ... you can see the settings on the shot as well (here is a link directly to the image of the moon - kzread.info/dash/bejne/mZ-G1pichNmZnMo.html (pause it and take a closer look)). Thx @Mr. Miss for posting the manual:). I had my hands on the nikon 200-500 ( amzn.to/2EWENFF ) before which is solid (and hefty:)). The resulting images are sharp for the given range and lens mounts find to both the 3000 and 7000 series (and the 5000). The sigma 150-600 ( amzn.to/2GE4afO ) is very similar in terms of clarity and provides additional range (and cost less). If your budget is relatively tight, I would not have any issues in going with the sigma:).

    I have a 3500 and 7200, the sensor on the 7200 is slightly better at high ISO’s. I’d say the main advantage of the 7200 is the ability to quickly change settings with the addition of the more buttons on the body, rather than doing your adjustments through the menu. It also has dual memory card slots. I also have owned both lens, I chose the Tamron 150-600 g2 over the sigma, my contemporary model autofocus motor failed after three days of using.
