Best version of this song ever, shes gorgeous singer!

This is one of the Nightwish songs that Tarja will just forever own to herself. Her voice is just perfect in this. Can't wait to see them in Helsinki next month with my whole family!

@@VNAOVFA-Hammer If you check her newest cover of the song for example at Kulttuuritalo with orchestra (she sometimes sings it at her gigs) she pronounces alot better and her voice range has increased alot.

I think this is the most beautiful and awesome live of this song.

But this wasn't the original operatic version. This is a later 2005 contemporary version rearrangement.

That is a beautiful song and she is great singer, it touches something in your soul and just grips you from start to finish. Thanks for sharing, enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Well I do, I have bought all of her live Blu-rays, and most recently the dark Christmas theme "From Spirits and Ghosts." I don't fancy too much though the style Tarja has decided to sing metal in her solo career, it reminds me "Slaying the Dreamer" of her Nightwish era which was always my least favorite Tarja's song. She uses this artsy contemporary style with suffering tone and high head voice. If you wanna hear her sing beautifully in metal, you hear that mostly in her old NW-songs or when she features with other musicians, like for example "Paradise" with Within Temptation. And then of course her classical tours and Christmas songs. Sure there are some metal songs in her solo career too where she doesn't cultivate the artistic style.

@Manveru31 Oh no, I disagree. To me Tarja's era was the best. And she is the most succesful solo career metal singer I know, and definately more than any other Nightwish member with their other bands or solo career. Tuomas and Troy have Auri, Tuomas has his solo album, Marko has Tarot, Emppu has Brother Firetribe and Floor has Northward. Edit: oh yeah and Marko's solo album "Isäni ääni" was also not well received. Although I think marko is a wonderful singer. But the style he chose for the album, wasn't a success.

@Manveru31 You Floor knights are so Hell bent to belittle earlier singers' eras. Digital sales are counted into album sales, have been for many years already. It's different in the USA and Germany for example, but it's about 10 to 12 degital song sales that equal one album. That's very cool and much easier than during Tarja's era, when you had to actually buy the physical album. Probably physical album sales counted most of Anette's era, too.

The voice of an angel!

Some time you should check out the End Of An Era version of Ever Dream. Yes, I know Floor kicks ass with her majestic ending to the song and I like it too. But Tarja and Marco singing together is just out of this world. I know you have plenty of other Nightwish songs to go through, but this is something that I would highly recommend! Also, MORE ENSIFERUM!!! Treacherous Gods, Little Dreamer, Iron, Old Man, Abandoned, Victory Song, Heathen Throne, Warrior Without A War, Two Of Spades. Your pick :D

Tarja was, is and always will be the best. Her voice is a pure magic.

Tuomas was angry about having to write this song. Germany asked him to do it. Even though Nightwish had not played there. But they were very popular there. He was upset that people just expected a song writer to be able to write on demand. Also they had certain criteria for the song like length of the song. He said he would never do it again. The only thing is if they did not have him write this song, we would never have had this beautiful song.......... :-)

Besides, NW were going to tour Germany later in 1999 nonetheless, so I guess it was more of a personal thing for Tuomas. And it's not like the added publicity and exposure hurt in any way. ;)

Yet he did it again with Nemo. Don't know if it was the record company that asked him to do it or what, but the idea was to write a radio-friendly song to be used as single and he said he didn't know how to do it. I guess he does, cause Nemo is (or was) their most successful single.

I was on their show in Bratislava a week ago, and I must say that they are so awesome. The old songs like Carpeter, Dead Boys Poem, Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean, The Kinglayer or Slaying the dreamer in this new coat were mindblowing. Only Nemo is for me still Tarjas song. New energy, new drive, new feelings...still processing that. Tarja was like ice, Floor is like fire. A big one.

Thanks 🤘 why is there a doll of Jack Sparrow...google some pictures of Tuomas Holopainen you see he looks like Jack, thats why ☺ this song was a request to Tuomas to write a song for the solar eclips in Europe 1999. There was a few more request, the song can only be 4 min long, had to be a ballad, has to be catchy, easy to sing along with. He didn't like the idea at all, but he though he had to do it, so he wrote a song about the sun being tired and we go to sleep with the sun. So...without this request, we wouldn't have this song, and it is definitely Tarjas song, don't think any can compete with this performance, one of Nightwish highlight on their concerts.

This song is pure magic, each time i hear it i got shivers! I have the first edition of this dvd, it's amazing in its entirety.

As great as this concert was, I would say From Wishes To Eternity was even better. Both Tarja and Marco were pretty ill during the End of an Era gig, which is noticeable if you compare their performance to other concerts. They also seemed a lot happier/energetic in From Wishes To Eternity since the relations hadn't gone quite as sour yet, so I recommend checking at least some songs from that dvd.

Continuing my selective marathon through your back catalogue - this is chronologically the 200th Reaction video and I still have 10 months worth of videos to go through in order to arrive to September 2019... of which there are 6 days left, yikes! :) *This* song I have vivid memories of, having seen the Tarja-era lineup perform it live in the summer of 2000, when it was still relatively new, and on a Midsummer Night's Festival, no less, as _the Sun_ set... for a couple of hours at least! Glorious.

Although beer is a typical drink in Germany, it is not allowed drinking this while work. Just after finishing your Job, you can go to the next beer garden (biergarten) and drinking with your Friends to death, but drinking at Work is forbidden. I`m 15, so i´m not official allowed to drink beer, but my parents agree with drinking beer on Festivals, so my favourite brand is "Barre". Back in the day, when the publicity photos for Once came out, someone on the now-defunct English-language Nightwish.com discussion board started cracking some mild jokes about the band's aesthetic in them. I don't particularly remember any of the jokes except for the one about Tuomas Holopainen: "He looks like he's auditioning for Pirates of the Caribbean" or something to that effect. The reason I remember even that much is that Tuomas posted a reply to it which went something like, "Oh wow, you guys don't miss a thing, do you? Captain Jack Sparrow might be the coolest film character I've ever seen." So, he kind of adapted it for his own personal image for that tour, and possibly afterward too. It hasn't really changed much since then, except he grows his hair longer sometimes and wears a few more t-shirts. Hence the Jack Sparrow doll. I'm sorry. Tarja's voice is amazing and it has always been amazing. Actually, it's better than ever now, because she has improved her chest voice so much. I guess you haven't listened to her soon to write this. Also, her music is not boring, it's just not generic/ commercial. And she is far better than floor. Sad but true. Sorry.

If you are thinking about live-streaming the concert, i would be more than happy to sit through the hole thing! ;)

I also liked how to the solo as done. It shows the understanding of the sng is so deep. You don't want teer away too far from the mood this provokes - supprot it with slight prsonal touches. There are songs that call for your wild personal leads, technical prowess etc. in the solo. But this is not one of those. Shows the quality of the guitarist or whoever is the musician, to recognize the mood of the song, and what kind of fill or solo fits there. It doesn't show a good sense of style, good taste, to go show off your technicals kills in every solo. Better make it fit to the song, have different types of solos in your repertoire.
