I'd love to sit down and have a conversation with this man, although I'd probably be too starstruck and too timid to utter a word. He's so articulate....he knows how to express himself (and the band) in a way that's both pleasant & enlightening. I love how their albums are thematic. It makes me want to or have to digest them as a whole instead of just several ones and move on to the next. I recently rediscovered my love for Nightwish. Right now I'm stuck with Imaginaerum and the Wacken live with Floor; have been for weeks now (what do you expect when you try to transition from Imagination & Storytelling to Science & Reason). I still can't get over both of them, but the time for Endless Forms Most Beautiful draws near. :D I'm loving The Greatest Show on Earth already. It's my favorite from the album...for now.

I like how he talks about listening to an album from start to finish, really listening to the music and focusing your attention. Look, I'm slightly older than he is and I can remember buying an album and then listening to it nonstop from start to finish over and over to really get to know it. That used to be standard. I have to admit I haven't done that in years, probably since the 90s. I'm an old metal chick who just discovered Nightwish and since then I have started re-listening to my favorite albums from start to finish--and it feels good. I plan to do this soon with my first Nightwish album, I just haven't decided yet which one that should be. Great interview, it's interesting hearing his perspective. (My first time hearing an interview with Tuomas.)

I own the album on vinyl. He is right, it is not their loudest, nor their most bombastic album, but it is arguably one of their most beautiful and complex. No pun intended.

The Greatest Show On Earth"). Und wenn man gescheite Kopfhörer hat, ist es auch völlig legitim, es sich darauf anzuhören :-D (kommt auch intensiver, finde ich.

Good interview! :) Weak fantasy must be a song with a chorus sing by Marco! (think about it: Wish I Had an Angel, Bye Bye Beautiful, Ghost River, Weak Fantasy... All of them are second songs on their albums, Taikatalvi is just an intro!)

Oh fuck, NOOOO!!!! «We felt that none of the songs really required any operatic lyrical approach when it comes to her vocals and I think that's gonna be one of the biggest surprises on this album for people because many of them are expecting this high and low operatic style all the time and it's not trully present there, only in one or two songs.» :(

I don't see anything wrong with that. It's refreshing to explore other options especially since Floor's voice is more versatile than Tarja's. Don't get me wrong , I like Tarja and Anette's voice but they both can sing one style but Floor's voice gives more possibilities.

I've now ween a few interviews with Tuomas about this album, and most interviewers aee hostile about the subject matter. It seems that the observation and realization that life is an ongoing process that we're a part of rather than a divine, planned out, rigid setup is hard to accept for more people than just hardcore religious fundamentalists. Strange, sad and alarming.

Why the German subtitles? Can't German's speak English?

  • @brazigirl08

The whole interview was in English! Why would we need English subtitles? It makes senses the subtitles are in German because the interviewer and the EMP Rock Invasion are German. Even if "everybody" speaks English there, German is their native language not English.

  • @Crash_endo

brazigirl08 I was talking about why not having no subtitles. I live in Holland what is practically next to Germany and English is our second language, we never use subtitles although I think you can use it on tv if you want to

Martijn Hoogmoed I would say that it's becuse german, like spanish and french is a widely used language. When you have that, it's much easier to get away with avoiding english. There are more things made in that language and also more incentive to make translations than smaller languages like dutch or swedish (where I'm from). Then, because people are so used to having things in their own language, they keep translating. I doubt most people really need it, but having things in your native language can be more convenient.

  • @Crash_endo

***** I see, thanks for the explanation ;) I thought English was the second language in most countries in Europe because it's being leaned at school and everybody loves Hollywood movies and of course music.

  • @aliveandkickingohyea

Martijn Hoogmoed Even though you learn English at school, it doesn't mean that you'd also understand spoken language well. It's easier to read subtitles in your own language than to keep on guessing what you have heard. :) Language skills vary a lot, all of us haven't got the best marks at shcool. I'm a Finn and understand Tuomas' English because he speaks slowlier and clearer than native speakers.
