You’re a gem for making us all giggle while delving into the deep shit. A question for anyone here? Are the wonky seasons in Westeros already tied to the seasons in Essos? I can’t recall a long summer or winter being mentioned outside of the seven kingdoms.

I think the seasons do technically line up in essos but because of the hotter climate over there it’s not as noticeable of a change? Going off memory here tho so could easily be wrong. It would probably be really confusing if the seasons didn’t line up on both continents tho.

@@DavidLightbringer yes-this is weird… which might mean wonky seasons are more a product of the presence of the Others and the heart of winter in Westeros than of cosmic imbalance due to lunar destruction. I mean-there still is one moon…

@@DavidLightbringer Mayhaps it's like the tropical regions of Earth: the seasons are less pronounced within the Tropics of Cap/Cancer. Or at least, the temperature doesn't fluctuate as much though the precipitation does.

I could see euron's machinations pulling cosmic bodies, such as the comet, down into the planet and heading into the Wall, a rumored hinge of the world where an already powerful figure in melisandre felt much more magically potent than when in asshai. The magic coursing through the area by the Wall, in addition to the resulting catastrophe from the impact of a crashed solar object, could have a cascading effect globally. Either way, I can't wait to see where grrm goes.

I like the "cold vampire" allusion to the Others. Boltons are often described as vampiric while sharing Stark/Other symbolism, so if Starks are blood of the Other, it all checks out. Can't help but see George's Joshua York vampire character in Fevre Dream as prototype for the "Good Other" archetype. Specifically because the "otherness" of the vampires in that novel are deliberately compared to how slaves were treated in America. Oh, and the main character Abner Marsh also happens to decry that it seems to him the only way to rid the world of institutional tyranny is through "fire and blood."

Im a bit late to the party! Nice work Ser Dave, I was just listening to your Empire of the Dawn vids again for like the millionth time, so this series should be good. Ties in well :) I kind of don't want the new book to come out, as the lore is in a good place we know enough to speculate on so many things. The series is in a state where we can let ourselves go wild, which leads to discoveries in the text, and re-reading to see if the new information unlocks more. It seems a shame that at some point we will have some answers, I think GRRM will leave a lot of things a mystery, but knowing him there will be little clues to some of these underlying plots. I surely hope so, and as always I hope you are right about a lot of these things, as your theories are a good lens to view the books through as I consume them again and again

Tinfoil hat time: Maybe Euron's crazy death orgy at Oldtown will give him crazy powers, which he then uses to call whichever of Dany's dragons gets tamed by the Dragonbinder horn, but he calls down a different kind of dragon instead and annihilates the whole city with the meteor impact? It would add to the stakes of Marwyn taking a glass candle to Dany as its one of the only ones actually left, it could be a way for Euron to become the world-ending god he wants to be, and it would make Sam's and the remaining Maesters' knowledge extremely useful, not to mention any powers like Bloodraven's/Bran's (R+L=J maybe?)

I did look into it pretty closely, and I came away thinking that RLJ was the only possibility, and that was before the show did RLJ. Fwiw I don't think the answer could be different, but I was set on RLJ anyway.
