Night Bridge Fishing With Shrimp Catching Snook On Jigs

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This video contains footage on how to catch snook from a bridge at night. In this KZread video I teach you proven ways to fish for snook with shrimp while bridge fishing. I also end up catching one on a jig too. At one point in the evening I catch a lady fish and put it on for bait.
I learned this method for casting shrimp at night about forty years ago on this same South West Florida inner coastal waterway overpass. There were hundreds of snook then, but the limits were different. You could keep four that were any size over eighteen inches. There are still hundres of these fish that line this bridge at certain times of the year, not much has changed in that respect.
The fist night that a friend taught me how to snook fish from a bridge we caught four keepers on shrimp. Since then I've caught thousands of these delicious fish.
One of the best ways to catch these fish at night is by free lining shrimp in the current. The best location on bridges to fish for snook is always around the light and shadow areas. These fish linger in the shadows waiting for bait to come passing by.
This is more that just me snook fishing on a bridge. No, I actually take the time to share with you a lot of snook fishing wisdom I've gained through the years that will help you be a better fisherman or woman.
How to catch snook at night on a bridge highlights:
1. You need a heavy rod with no less than thirty pound test on the main line and fifty pound test mono or fluorocarbon leader.
2 When I fish shrimp at night I generally us a five ought hook, J style or circle.
3. I always hook the shrimp through the head by inserting it from underneath, just in front of the legs and black spot, and push it through to the top of the head.
4. Fish where there's a decent moving current.
5. Always cast the shrimp in any direction that will allow the bait to pass through light and shadow areas.
6. If you catch a small snook you can hand line it to the top of the bridge. If it's a large one you will either need a bridge net or another option is to walk the fish down the bridge to the seawall area and grab it that way. A good pair of fish grippers and be a handy tool if you have to lean over a seawall to get your slot keeper snook.
7. When fishing with jigs for snook I basically throw the jig out away from the shadow, let it sink to the bottom and reel three times, let fall to the bottom, quickly reel three times again...
Anyone can learn how to catch snook using this method that I present in this video. Just take some time to scout out some of your area bridges when the current is moving fast. If there are snook there you will see them near the top of the water hanging out in the shadows.

when you cast the jig off of the bridge do you let it hit the bottom then reel or close the bail as soon as it hits the water?

Most of the time I let it hit the bottom and then instantly reel two t o three cranks. I very the retrieve, but I've had the most hits when bouncing it off the bottom.

Hi John, right now you should find Snook all over the place, in major inlets, still along the beach, in the inner coastal water ways and some in the creeks and rivers.

Thanks, I'm always fishing around pilings with barnacles or really rocky areas. It's a real fight when you hook into a monster snook on a bridge to keep him out of the pilings. That's why I use 50 Lb. leader. I don't seem to have a problem catching snook. If I'm in open water thirty pound would be okay with me, still most people that want a big snook beef up the leader, don't they? It's obvious you are a snook fisherman by your profile picture. Do you fish from bridges often? I met a guy the other night, a snook bridge fisherman. He showed me pictures of monster snook he'd caught on jigs. He always fishes with 50LB. braid and eighty pound fluorocarbon leader.

I've been watching some videos of the mullet run, looks like a lot of fun! I'm headed out to the beach today to do some scouting.... This time of year we get tons of greenbacks near the shore. It's the greenback run! Around the sandbars you can pick up spanish mackerel, snook, flounder, lady fish and jacks.
