    Please do an update and focus more on the hydrography!!! Also, if you can please talk a little about the dredging of the Niger river that was completed a few years ago under Goodluck Jonathan's leadership and how it has affected the Nigerian economy; which became the largest of all Africa by the time of the start of the dredging! I see a lot of similarities between Nigeria and the US (the Mississippi river basin). It's more like a 'mini-US' in a way, specially after the dredging, which was supposed to connect parts of the river to make them navigable for commerce. Thank you!

    Such intentions have been damaging our continent for the past 40 years. If the industrial nations really want to help the Africans, they should finally terminate this awful aid. The countries that have collected the most development aid are also the ones that are in the worst shape. Despite the billions that have poured in to Africa, the continent remains poor.

Yet they mention religious conflict in Ireland,which hasn't had any major religious conflict incidents in over 20 years. If you're gonna mention religion in geography you should do it for all countries.

    Zazzirah Spain Let me educate y'all on this shit The main reason why Nigeria and a lot of African countries are like that is because the European imperialists divided them by geographic regions not ethnicity. they didnt give a fuck about the African natives. They did that to get the best resources the Africa "had to offer" (cuz Europe ain't got shit). So after the European imperialism era, different ethnic groups (that were beefing with each other for centuries) were forced to live with each other. This ethnic divide contributes to the many problems many African countries face today If the same thing were to happen in Europe, the continent would be in a similar situation

  • @eriktillman8114

    @eriktillman8114

    Yeah I'm sure the Hausa-Fulani would love to give up that oil in the south. The problem is, it's too late for partition. Every ethnic group wants the resources in the country for themselves and political domination of the other ethnicities. Basically, they each want the entire country to themselves(or at least the valuable parts) without having to share with the others. It would be impossible to satisfy more than a few ethnic groups with a partition scheme, as the Hausa-Fulani, for example, would regard a partition along ethnic lines as a loss for themselves, since they no longer have access to the oil, which they regard as rightfully theirs despite its not being in their ethnic majority regions. It's kinda like how even though Yugoslavia broke up 30 years ago, many Serbs still think/act like they own Kosovo, Bosnia, and Croatia. Because the British forced this diverse collection of ethnic groups into a country together, they each think of all the country's resources as theirs, but because of the regionalism/ethnic tension, they are not willing to share with others. The only way to solve this problem is to create a national identity for all Nigerians, regardless of ethnicity, so that they will be comfortable with sharing and cooperation.

    +jaleela monie One solution is to make a referendum: you don't like others? get your independence by voting. Another is as you said, making one Nigerian sense of unity. Eventhough that will bring stability, I'm afraid that one of the most precious traits of Africa, its vast variety of cultures, disappears. Idk if tribalism is good or bad, but tribes have the right to mantain their traditions I think. I've also heard Nigeria will become an important powerhouse of the World by 2050 or later. It has lots of opportunities. Just keep working, you'll get it. I'd like to travel to Nigeria someday but I fear your hot Sun and the insects hahaha. Maybe in the future

    The population is expected to double by 2050. Where is the food supposed to come from? Is half of the arable land there currently fallow and awaiting productive use?

  • @decus9544

    @decus9544

    9 жыл бұрын

    Frank Blangeard Yields per unit area of arable land are not static, the entire green revolution was about massively increasing yields and much of that progress has yet to take place in Africa. Additionally, as much as many in the West like to espouse the benefits of food aid, it is in fact very much destructive to agriculture in the developing world, undercutting prices and forcing farmers to convert to cash crops, or preventing sufficient profit yields to allow for mechanisation of agriculture. What this means is that 1) Yes, much of Nigeria's arable land is not being used for productive use in an intensive way, 2) Much of that which is, is currently used to produce cash crops, and 3) Even that which is used for food production may achieve yields several times higher through use of better equipment, techniques, fertilisers and genetic modification. To summarise, Nigeria has plenty of room to grow in just about every way, agricultural output and thus population included, although I do think it would do best to limit the rate of that population growth as it is already the most densely populated country in Africa with a population density roughly similar to France. Exporting the food to the rest of West Africa would be preferable, but with food aid undercutting food prices, combined with poor infrastructure and only semi-developed markets in the region, that isn't possible at present. Ending food aid would help Nigeria immensely, but the food lobby in the U.S. won't let that happen...

    Crap! Why do people claim to know what they do not? Stratfor, remember that there are Nigerians listening to this, but then, we are not your targeted audience. Do us a favor, say it as it is. And to see the ignorant ethnocentric comments on a 2 minute video. LOL

    Schreibt denen mal E-Mails. Bei Stratfor sucht man gerade Praktikanten! Leute direkt vor dem Abi, möglicherweise erste Drogenerfahrungen, sind dort gerne gesehen!

    First of all, we don't need nigeria's trained professionals since the US have an abundance of people with master's degrees who are having trouble finding jobs. Maybe if nigeria have better infrastructure, all your "trained professionals" would not be begging to leave your country. Immigration is not foreign aid and population growth is only marginally beneficial for economic growth if Nigeria's economy is running on sweatshops, otherwise it just puts a strain on resources.

    Your comment shows your ignorance. Get some education. And if you knew jack, you would know that Nigeria gives aid to YOUR country. Any wonder people hate America so much? Seriously, enroll yourself in a REAL school and get educated. And I don't mean Fox News.
