The moral of this story: have parents who already work in the film industry, have ice cream with a famous director and borrow the money from said parents to fund your first feature by the time you're 26. His films are visually pretty, but I'm not a fan of them personally. The 'do it your way' advice, while fine and always worth having as an attitude, is vague and unhelpful. There are plenty of directors who started off making low budget films well outside of the Hollywood bubble and have more practical advice than this guy.

You've always gotta look into the one giving the advice. I'm not saying it's bad advice, but there's nothing here about getting off the ground. His father has worked on over 70 feature films, working his way up, having gone to film school. His mother was also in the film industry as a cinematographer. He's had an easier ride than any of these students will have so hopefully they put his advice into its appropriate context.

@@LewisFernandezFilm In all honesty, everyone's 'advice' about succeeding in the film industry at this level comes with some sort of caveat. Most of them like this guy have parents who work in that industry, or are rich, or they know someone who works in the industry who gave them their first job/opportunity, or they just got incredibly lucky in one way or another. They can be talented and make interesting films, but not always.

thehmc I'm a fan of NWR, Drive is one of my top 5 favorites films ever, but the rest of his movies... They don't have the perfection of Drive, and are very surrealist and idk... I hope he does a film more like Drive in the future PLEASE I have a lot of hope on Too Old To Die Young so... Let's see what he does whit his series.

Whether or not you think he's made more than one good film or not is irrelevant, the dude was bankrupt years ago and since pusher 3 has only been making exactly what he wants to make, I think that's the point. I'd rather be making stuff everyone else hated that I enjoyed creating and wanted to create as opposed to the other way round, you know? edit: also if we're gonna talk about his good films, his best is Bronson, Drive (which I'm almost certain is what you're alluding to when you say "1 great movie" has one of the best first acts in recent memory but then it has the other two thirds which are floppy as a goose. done.

Pusher and drive are both considered great, so already there your "point" doesnt go thogether.
