I was bullied at school and I had to be moved school twice because of bullying and this song did a lot to get me through. I teach bullied school kids self defence and I make sure the parents buy their kids a copy of this. Although Nick Berry never realised it his song will change the lives of many bullied school kids forever.

Unfortunately, I was bullied at school BECAUSE of this song. My name is Simon Wicks, and as soon as Lou Beale saw Nick’s character in the Vic and announced, “My grandson, Simon Wicks!” when I was 14, I knew my life at school would change the next day. And it did. And Nick releasing this fucking song didn’t help, as everyone loooooved to sing it to me. I’m sure you can relate to this, 007.

This song knocked Madonna off of number 1 in 1986 and stayed there for 3 weeks. It couldn’t have been that bad. Had to come have a listen after watching Eastenders all over again on Drama every weekday. They played it to death on Eastenders. I can still remember my Sisters buying this on LP when I was 6.

He confessed in a Smash Hits interview that he can’t sing for toffee, which was even used as a quote on the cover! Pleasant enough voice though, and he can carry a tune. Very nice song, I don’t know why songs like this with good lyrics are generally considered naff. Middle of the road maybe, but certainly credible.

I bought the single as a kid. What with the bullying I went through I felt like a loser but this song gave me hope. Now, the severe depressive side of me says Im still waiting for the win but the more positive half says I had a great family so was already a winner and now I have a great son so double win.

Loved this song back in 1986 as a huge fan of Nick Berry. Hearing it again now as older brings back some good teens I had. Off Course Nick Berry was very fit and still is. Come on Nick make a comeback. 😊

A LOT of copies of this record turned up a "bring'n'buy"/fete at my school, in Nuneaton in the early 90s. Place was flooded with 'em! Have to admit, Nick/"Wicksey" (as he was known in Eastenders) looks pretty good in the video, despite the slightly mullet-y hair. And also think I recognise some of the canal videos's, look like they were filmed in Gas Street Basin, Birmingham!

The boat Nick rides looks a lot like the old Ragdoll on Rosie and Jim :D

i just love the 80's music....one of the most played decades on tv...at least in that era u could understand wat they was singing....lol....lol...i like the music of today as well but there will never been another 80's decade music again......

Nick has a very pleasant singing voice. (Also, the chorus reminds me a bit of Secret Love by the Bee Gees). :)

I think the incredibly cheesy video condemned the song. The singing is strong though. Maybe a McDonald's remember the 80s advert will re-establish it like "Nothings gonna change my love for you"

Christmas Top Of The Pops 1986, and my then girlfriend said, " we nearly made it. I said what are you talking about, then a week later she ended it after 3½ years. After having my heart broken at 19 years old, I went out and tried to enjoy myself, late in 1987 I met a beautiful girl, 2 children and 34 years later, we are still together, the best thing my first girlfriend could've done was to end it.

@@dianewebb5772 yes Nick Berry retired after making his final episode of Harbour Lights in Woodbridge , Suffolk. He fell in love with the area and moved to the Alzheimers Acres Care Home in Framlingham. Coincidentally that is the home town of Ed Sheerin who played one of his first gigs at the afore-mentioned home. It would have been awesome if Nick joined in with the harmonies but unfortunately there are no known recordings .

this song is so beautiful and timeless it always makes me feel emotional i think its the way Nick sings it and i love his voice its soft i always cry to this song because it is so touching and a classic i love old songs like this i loved it when i first heard it in Eastenders in the 80's what a song it brings back so many happy memories i had a crush on Nick Berry he was so gorgeous and really dishy in the 80's and he is still sexy and a great actor & a lovely guy in real life
