Most Popular Song in Europe Each Month of the '70s
Based on the charts of the UK, Germany, Austria, Belgium, France, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain and Switzerland. I chose a different song for each month to make the countdown more interesting and diverse, despite the fact that in reality a few songs were the most popular ones for 2 or 3 consecutive months.

I wrote one of those songs at the half way point, and didn't get one cent in royalties, just most of the rythem guitar parts , (the best part).
I remember most of these songs from childhood. 70s music is fun. There were so many original songs created in the 70s.
Absolutely timeless decade of music! Well done
Haha, the transition from Queen singing "Mamma Mia" to ABBA's "Mamma Mia" is worth a special mentioning.

@@rabootocoelhinho5698Sparks is another. Speaking of Suzi Quatro, it’s a bit puzzling. One would think that promoting her by having her play Leather Tuscadero on Happy Days would have been more than enough to spark interest, but I think the only success she ever had in the US was that duet she did (that I can barely remember). Edit: I just noticed some crazy autocorrects in my comment (Suzuki Quatro? 🤦♂️ lol)

Born in 1999 in Europe but a big fan of older music. I really wish I was born 25 years earlier to be able to enjoy the bangers of 70s and 80s in my prime. Also, I don't understand why disco died as a music genre, we need it back. We also desperately need groups such as Abba, Bee Gees, the Sweet and Queen again. Great video

@@maxcuthbert100 It didn't die, it evolved into electronic music which dominated the whole 80's pop music scene.
The best is what didn't make it to the top, so much left out, The Who, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, ELO, Heart, Supertramp, Jethro Tull, the Doors, Aerosmith, AC/DC, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd,...... Left a lot out here too but whats the most popular and what not isn't always the best.
Growing up in Cleveland Oh in the 70’s The music scene here will never be duplicated again. We would have shows like the World Series of rock were for 10 bucks You could go anywhere in the stadium including the base of the stage and see 5 top acts of the day. One of the bands I loved The Sweet was not an unknown act here but not a titan either. I had no clue how large they were in Europe 😊at that time until I watched this video ❤🙏 Thank You
Wonderful music in the 70s
When Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" appears you can hear straight away it's something totally different to other songs from that era. Brian Eno was right when the moment he heard that song he said it's the sound of the future.

I was hoping for a couple of Boney M songs, and I definitely was not disappointed! :)
I was surprised to not see David Bowie even once and a band like Status Quo just once. Of course, I grew up in The Netherlands, so I don’t know what was popular in other countries, although there was literally just one song that I couldn’t remember. 🤔

You missed the most two influential contributors to 70's... Roxy Music and Bowie. Why/
@Samplesurfer
7 күн бұрын
1970s had a huge difference between the "album sellers" and the "chart hit songs". Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, but also Roxy Music and David Bowie were more in the album realm. Queen was also far more an album seller. Meatloaf went high in a few countries, but the album was his real success. Kate Bush also went high in a few countries, but "The Kick Inside" album was her real seller. A part of the reason was the huge dominance for a number of years in the charts by Abba, Boney M and those singles from Saturday Night Fever and Grease. What you see quite correctly was that for about two years they were more or less 'taking turns'. The ones I missed: 10cc - Dreadlock Holiday and Kiss - I was made for loving you.
Jan 76 to Feb 76 is just divine! Couldn't have planned that!
Gran trabajo!!!

There is a difference between singles and albums, in the UK "the sweet" did not have any album in the top 10 in his entire career, Bowie in the 70s had 13 albums in the top 5 in the UK, 3 of them number 1 and another 4 number 2. (in his entire career he had 11 number 1 albums and 36 top 10 albums)
