Amani- Rick from Idaho. I like those root wads sunk into the bank. That type of habitat restoration appears to be providing cover for trout! I was involved with that type of habitat restoration in Oregon and within hours after installation of the root wad/tree, fish were using the newly formed habitat. Hopefully some entity will continue installing them along the upper Truckee. FYI the black maribou jig works fine up in Idaho! Keep on fishing.

Had phone on my lap. Window was down. Heard a noise next to me. A bear was next to truck, paws o roof. He was inches from me. We were nose to nose. Luckily he turned and ran. Thanks lord. I am more aware of my surroundings now.

Everything I saw that was nice had to be lured out of serious cover. I saw two nice trout in the open all day and those bolted before I could even get into range with my spinning rod which is pretty far. If you are looking for nice trout out there under these conditions you might be in for a long day! There were a lot of fish out in the open but none I saw were great and the long time the fish had to look at whatever you put in front of them was not ideal!
