    For all the times there’s almost no explanation for losing a fish, I’m super grateful for those insane takes like simply leaving a fly in the water and just having a fish engulf it.

    Sight fishing is the ultimate approach of fly fishing ! In France it's the grail... for big fish. The casting technique is really different with a finesse approach and micro nymph. Method approved around the world... It could be amazing to see you in action on our rivers ! 😍

    It is wonderful! :) The thing about fly fishing is the adjustments needing to be made as different waters and nuances arise in different locations, certainly. That's the fun :) What works one location needs a vastly different presentation to the next and we as anglers get to adjust and apply different tactics :)

    How do you determine how close to cast to the fish? As I understand, you want to be close enough that they see it but not so close that it spooks them. How do you determine that distance?

  • @jensenflyfishing

    @jensenflyfishing

    Ай бұрын

    It does come down to the feel of reading fish behaviour, water & sky conditions, the best location to cast from, the approach to get into that position and the required cast based on not crossing too any current seams, etc. A lot of micro-decisions that lead to your best position for the best cast that make things the most direct & easiest. We tend to be about 25 to 35' from the fish on most of these situations, though often a lot closer. We have a solid breakdown of this in our Fly Fishing Trout Streams Master-Course available here, it's worth the investment of the time and a modest $$$ : www.patreon.com/jensenflyfishing/shop/fly-fishing-trout-streams-master-course-36596?source=storefront

    Agree. I started watching MikeFisher's NZ videos years and years ago, and at about the same time, Trout Boynz. I think they were co-sponsored and collaborated Check out there "Chirp, Chirp, Slurp," a classic, just pure joy during the Cicada hatch..One of Mike's classic's is "Dream Stream" or "Joe and the Giant Fish."As great as those were, they weren't as instructional as TOT or Jensen., imo, who cover from Patagonia and CA to NZ.

    @@big1dog23 Ah, Andrew... had a good thing going a while there then Ytube changed the rules massively and the potential was cut by 80% - ff channels make about $50 a video if you're lucky and the 2 days to film, 2 days to edit and produce just don't warrant that kind of time. If you find a channel you love, support it by any means necessary. Hopefully Alex continues once married life settles! :)

    The ecology conservation side of me is partly horrified. So many exotics and weeds you can hardly tell which country. But then It's a pretty awesome example of the value in novel ecosystems.

  • @jensenflyfishing

    @jensenflyfishing

    Ай бұрын

    When we look at the ecology of almost every square inch on the planet, zoom out and realize every square inch is managed to human values and has been manipulated by human want/use, we see the same virtually everywhere. To isolate one video or location misses the same virtually everywhere. Introduced species of grain crops, livestock, birds, pest spp, plants/weeds, on and on it goes. At some point our interferences and manipulations have to be seen as the base, where nature's ability to exist and adapt has to be marveled at - that's what this video is. Without all the above, two Canadians aren't fly fishing brown trout under a willow canopy there, then.

    @@jensenflyfishing I agree, nowhere may be completely beyond our influence. In NZ where that deep historical impact of people is less than just about anywhere else it's easy for people to assume there's only value in the native and unmodified. A trap which I try and avoid, but this is a reminder. You've captured the beauty of something entirely different and new yet functioning and healthy and undoubtedly valuable in many ways.
