Dougie Hamilton netted the game-winning goal in overtime as the New Jersey Devils pulled a game back in their first-round series against the New York Rangers in a 2-1 overtime victory. Devils goalie Akira Schmid had a monstrous 33 save effort.

Akira Schmid with 35 saves and a .972 save percentage. I think the Devils have found their starting goalie for the rest of this series.

Sorry but the two games before wasnt VV fault. What can you do without defense? Yes I agree that Akira was perfect today, but defense did way better job than in first two playoff games

But it is a big deal because he won the game and prevented the devils from going down by 3 in the series. If the rangers were in that boat I'm sure you'd be singing a different tune.

i dont think the devils other goalie had a chance on most of the rangers goals in the first 2 games, kreider deflections are near impossible to stop

@@dankelly5150 Jets would be in the Bedard race without Morrisey, and Sharks would be relegated to peewee league without Karlsson. Hamilton is elite but those 2 just had better seasons this year

@@marcelaubut176 Karlsson is in the minuses because he is playing with AHL'ers and a shooter tutor for a goalie. He put up 100 points as a Dman on arguably the worst team in the league which is RIDICULOUS, compared to Hamilton who put up 80 in a top 5 team in the league. They are not even close. There is not a single GM in the league that would take Hamilton over him.
Good job, Devils. I'm glad that you aren't getting swept. Can you even the series on Monday?

Finally the Hudson River rivalry gets interesting
Running Schmid was the right decision. Played absolutely lights-out.
This was a grinder of a win for the Devils. Looked like Hughes was trying to win the game by himself. Hopefully the two losses taught the Devils just how hard they'll have to dig to win. One shift at a time, one period at a time. Go Devils!

If they can build off that game they'll be fine. They looked good outside the offensive zone penalties but the PK was great. Also Schmid looked fantastic all game so that helps he continues that play.

What a game!
Gutsy win by the Devils. They really need to find a way to score at even strength though. The Rangers are playing structured defense and are very disciplined at it. Also maybe that goal gets Jack Hughes going. I know he scored on a penalty shot in game 1 but the Rangers are doing a really good job shutting him down at even strength and so much of New Jersey's offense runs through Hughes. Not to say they don't have other good players too but if Hughes gets going it's going to make everyone else on the ice for New Jersey more dangerous.
