I have no problem giving the Devils credit, but when you lose Game 7 4-0 with all the talent the Rangers have, something is not right with the culture of the team. Losing is OK but quitting, giving up and laying down is not. "No quit in NY" officially ended in 2023. This team quit BIG TIME!

it wasnt becuase the devils were good as a team its because the rangers general manger was ass. They should have not gotten Kane, he caused the team to play with 18 players for the rest of the regular season. The rangers were tired by game 4. The devils are gonna get blown probably by toronto, because canes have to many injuries. In fact the devils had less team plays then the rangers

I don’t understand this narrative that it would be a “miracle run” if the Devils win the Stanley Cup. Sure, they’re young, but they had the third best record AND goal differential in the entire NHL, have an experienced head coach who is one of the winningest of all time, and a roster riddled with high end talent, including multiple number 1 overall picks. The Devils have been damn good all year, and if anyone considers this a “miracle run,” I don’t believe they’ve watched very much Devils hockey this year, because the way they’re winning games in the playoffs is the exact same way they’ve been winning games all season: speed, skill, puck control. The Devils had to prove that they could handle the spotlight and style of play of the playoffs, but there was no reason to believe they couldn’t. Will they win it all? Who knows, but they had as good a shot as any team coming into the playoffs.

Few reasons why I think it'd be considered a "miracle run", coming from a Devils fan. 1. Playoff Experience. Most of the roster are playing in the playoffs for the first time in their careers. Sure they have players like Palat, Haula and Tatar with playoff experience. Outside of that, none of the superstar players had experience. 2. Their record from the previous season. Devils finished with a record of 27-46-9. 63 points lol. Yes, it was a common fact among fans that if we had average goaltending we would have been a bubble team. But after starting this season 0-2, while getting outscored 10-4 in those two games AFTER having addressed the goaltending issue from last year, things became questionable. Yes, I know they went on a massive heater but they did hit a bump for a while. 3. Devils started the series down 0-2. Most fans were 100% certain we were getting swept.

Yes they were bad last year, but with all the talent they have (two first overall picks, other high draft picks, big FA Signings in Hamilton and Palat, big trade get in Mayer), I think it's almost expected for them to take a huge step this year like they did. I think a miracle is reserved for a team that truly shouldn't get that far. Like if the Ducks won a cup this year lol

I think the miracle run belongs to the Panthers this year. Most people thought that the Bruins would be untouchable. I think the Panthers will beat the Leafs too, but they won’t beat the Devils in the Conference finals. Devils all the way baby!

I see a lot of hating on the Rangers but not a lot of love for the Devils. Lindy Ruff did an absolutely spectacular job turning the team around and getting them to play such a high octane game that you really have to be perfect in order to compete with them. They know they're playing with house money, and although they're inexperienced, they still looked like the much better team for the majority of the series, even with Shesterskin delivering great goaltending in every single game.

The truth is, they played that high octane style all year, they just didn’t the first 2 games of this series. I think they got to in their heads listening to everyone say you have to play a certain way in the post season. Once they went back to their style, it was all over for the rangers.

This makes me so happy. Even with all the draft shenanigans, Fox making it known he’d sign with them only, Kane saying he’d only accept a trade to them, getting Tarasenko, and having a great core, the Rags still bowed out in the first round. Oh man, you hate to see it. 😂😂

This win couldn’t have been any more satisfying. EVERY year is the Rangers’ year and this year was no different with Tarasenko and Kane. But jersey came back after down 0-2 in the series .. winning 2 games in NY, and then game 7.. scoring 4 goals in 4 completely different ways.. none of which were a bounce or fluke.. just hard work and epic moments. Just another year for the Rangers. I’m sure NEXT year is the year.. for sure.. certainly.

Lafraniere had as many points as me this series, he was awful. Panarin sucked hard also and he gets paid 11.5 million per year

I've seen super teams fail more than succeed. 2003 Avs and Real Madrid's Galacticos come to mind.

If you saw that game seven you'd know this game was in fact nowhere close the first half... The scoreboard may have shown 0-0 but that was because Igor was the only one who decided to play. It was one of the most pathetic performances I've ever seen from a professional team and they're in major trouble in the future with the rangers inept coaching staff that seems to not understand how to develop forwards (I believe the last top 6 F was buchnevich in like 2016)

TBH i dont blame the coach often, but I think the Coaching of the Devils in Ruff was the guiding hand the devils needed to play hard the entire way. He pushed them to another level.

The Devils purposely tried to play differently in games 1 and 2, hitting more and ending up out of position because of it. They also played very poorly on the PK, using a small box that negates the speed advantage. They made the changes going into game 3 and showed how good they really are.

We had nobody that could work down low and grind away I’ve been saying this for months

As a Rangers fan, I would say that Trochek instead of Strome is part of it. Strome was incredibly underrated. Adding Kane and Tarasenko wasn't needed in fact Galant fucked up their PP because of them It was amazing last year and this year. . . Meh. Zib and Panarin were also non existent.

Rangers will never recover from totally wasted first round picks like Lafreniere, Kakko, Andersson, Kravtsov, and wasted, and most importantly PREMATURE trades for overpriced rentals. Whatever window there may have been just slammed shut.

Rangers were over rated. At the trade deadline they chose Kane and Teresanko, two guys who were on the very downside of their careers, who were both terrible on the defensive side and basically have lacked determination that last few years, more flash than dash.

There has to be something up with Gallant. He was run out of Florida and fired in Vegas. Now this. He was a great player back in the day but there is got to be something up with his coaching. 3 teams now.

Adding star players at the deadline usually doesn’t lead to that much success. You need to address issues with solid role players/depth guys who know their role well and execute it well

I had so so so so many thoughts on this as a whole to be honest, I love what the Devils did and wanted to see the Rangers Super Team fail…not cause I hate the Rangers but because quite frankly I feel like the draft lottery sending them both Kakko and Lafrenchy was fucked up and just juiced up a major market for ratings. But the Devils? Man I love what they and Buffalo have done so so so much.

as a NYR fan, don't discount this Devils team - we're better than we showed and despite giving up 4 in one game, Schmid could make a run, every few yrs some backup/non elite goalie ends up becoming a star for a month or two and thats all it takes to win the cup - plus they're playing tough/hungry hockey - and with BOS out of the way i think they could still struggle with getting to the finals but itll be a lot easier now - that said i do NOT see this NJD team beating EDM/whoever wins the West...regardless of seed

Check the devils record against western conference teams this season.

We can't force fairy tales. Look at the Bruins, the 'best team in history'. The Rangers were bad at 5 vs.5 all season and didn't address it. It's painful to watch Lafrenière play, he's so freakin mediocre. I'm getting sick of people making excuses and claiming Jack Hughes progression was similar. Statistically, Hughes was over a point per game in his 3rd season, and got 43 goals and 99 pts this year. Lafrenière never reached 0.5 pt/game. Against fast teams, he simply can't keep up with the pace due to his utterly bad skating. Let's face it: Alexis Lafrenière is a bust.

Imagine being so high off whatever they be smokin in nyc to just whole heartedly believe year in and year out theyre gonna win the cup, and then have the audacity to call our fans bad. We admit when our team is bad, we dont dress a turd in a sweater and call it a "superstar". Bottom 3 for a couple years, I wonder how long theyll be talking about '94 for?

Game 6 was not Akira’s fault 3 deflections and 2 snipes like if he made 1 of those saves they still lose but he’s my goat LFG LGD

Without jinxing anything Devils look like they may be the juggernaut in the east conference going forward. Majority of that team is 28 and under. Schmid is looking like the second coming of Brodeur. And there superstar core is locked up. Finally who's there real rival in the East besides the Canes in the Metropolitan, Bruins looked atrocious and may have aged out of contention and Rangers still look like they're trying to figure out who to build around. Toronto and Florida have promise but who knows with those franchises.

The rangers tried using the oiler and leafs blueprint of building an offensive power house without players to actually play defense. The difference is the rangers have an elite goalie and it still didnt work. The devils won that series because their forwardscan actually play defense and back check. I took the panthers tn on the moneyline because they have the better roster for the playoffs and it was easy money. Panthers will win that series unless they sustain a significant injury because like i said the leafs roster isnt it even with their additions at the deadline..

If the Devils defeat carolina, they will get to the Stanley cup finals. Go NJD!

i feel like there's too many cooks in the kitchen like you have too many guys that want to score which causes locker room issues. if i was the management trade some of the goal scorers away for some younger players and keep 1 goal scorer for each line, that way the younger players will give them the puck to score and there will be no locker room problems.

Any team can loose no matter how good or bad u r. And devils won cause rangers shots themselves in the foot and decided not to show up anymore after game 2. Gallants poor coaching ability screws them as well for not utilizing the talent he had on tht team properly. Series would’ve been over no more than 5 games if the rangers played to their potential and had a half decent coach knowing what he’s doing….. it’s embarrassing they couldn’t even get out of round 1 let alone to loosing to the devils with the talent they had. In the past now but if the team had a coach and played with just a little bit of pride, it would’ve been quick….

I agree that McLeod’s goal wasn’t the goal of the century, maybe goal of the decade. I’d say Henrique’s OT winner in 2012 or Martinez’s OT winner in 2014 are the contenders for goal of the century

Based on the regular season they never came close to what Boston did, now that's a super team! Jersey was better in game 7. If they played 20 games it would go back and forth like this series did. Parity is now here for good or bad and not going away any time soon.

You don’t build a team by collecting big names and over the hill stars. One day the Rangers will learn this

NOT EVEN CLOSE TO A SUPERTEAM. A few legitimately 😂great players (Igor, Fox, Zibanejad), excellent vets (Kreider, Panarin, Trochek), talented youngsters (miller, chytil), two decent but disappointing top 2 draft picks, and two guys who if they were five years younger would be impactful enough to call this a possible Superteam. Now NJ, on the other hand, is a Lightning/healthy Avs in the making. This team has a perfect cap situation and a top 3 farm system on the way!!! This is the weakest Devil team for the next 5 years. Mark my words.

its possible. Devils had some teething issues trying to figure out where to put TImo in the line up. Doesnt help Lindy line up changes are like a carousel most nights.

When the Rangers didn’t score on Power plays they lost the games 😢they won they did. Adam Fox very disappointing after two good games play very small fiddling around with the puck!

They had a Super team but completely neglected defense. Lindgren and Shesterkin can only do so much

It was nice if Mika and Panarin to show up… nvm kane had 6 points in 7 games so he showed up. Where the rest of you rangers at?

They only gave up a 2nd pick for Kane. All picks are crap shoots. Also shows you how much goal tending means. Strangely Kane did not seem to get alot of ice time. Obviously a step slow. Aves are gone to. Kappo and Laufranier look skilless.

Kane should never get anywhere near the 10million a year salary ever again. He's nothing more than a 900k 1 year, make it through Training Camp kind of guy now...and thats only if he gets a new replacement hip this summer. Its over Patrick. Thanks for the memories.

It could have been worse, they could have been Baahston. The Rangers lost to a superior team with a better record. Boston was supposed to be an all-time great team and gets bumped by the lowest seed in the first round. Jersey changing goaltender changed the series.

Time and time again if there are too many chiefs and not enough Indians there’s no one there to make the hard plays and sacrifices. This was inevitable

Super team? They weren’t far off of a wild card spot. Boston wasted the super team. Best regular season of all time but someone forgot to tell them to play playoff hockey.

They were not a superteam. Devils are better. A healthy Avs or Canes are better. Bruins better. Leafs probably better too. Good team and a contender, but not a great one.

The Rangers are in the bottom of the league when it comes to the 5 v 5. Their offense relied too heavily on the powerplay. When Kreider was being left wide open, they won. The Devils made adjustments took away the middle of the ice and shut the powerplay down in 4 out of 7 games and NYR had no answer for the constant hornets nest created from the Rush. That and Akira Schmid just turned into a complete wall 🧱.

Rangers barely tested Schmid . The Rangers were nowhere near the net all series and Schmid was easily able to see every shot . Let’s hold off on the Schmid is a complete wall crap.

​@@christopherokeefe756 he still made high quality saves and his expected goals against was 11.5 and he was scored on 7 times. That stat alone proves without him the devils were done. Igor had an expected goals against of 22 and was only scored on 14 times. Crazy how insane he played.

The Rangers played the game they wanted to games 1 and 2... the rest of the games were how the devils wanted to play. Rangers didn't control since game 2.

Rangers have some work to do on the off season. Perhaps it's time to move away from some of these rebuilding pieces to some more consistent talent. Rangers got lost in the allure of kane at the deadline, but truth is: he didn't fill a needed role. Last year, they picked up much better more valuable players at the deadline. Rangers will move some pieces on the off season. Wouldn't be surprised if Laffy is one of them. Goodrow will be another. Vesey maybe a well. Very high paid 4th line team. Trocheck and trouba overpaid for what they brought to the table this year. Strome was way better. Plenty of blame to go around. Gallant deserves alot as well. He hoped they would do better but didn't really do much to make it happen. Rolling 4 lines in the regular season is fine, but in the playoffs, go with the talent. Poor decisions all around.

By no means were they a “super team”. Focusing their deadline moves on getting Patrick Kane instead of fortifying the defense and depth in front of igor is why they lost. Plus… the Devils are just better🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Carolina will be disposed of too! They’re just like the Rangers as far as a team always going deep in the playoffs lately and doing absolutely nothing! When we go deep, it’s Finals or bust! And i know these guys these days don’t really hate each others teams like back in the day but i hope my Devils pay back the Canes for 2009 playoffs, i still want payback for that from 14 years ago 😂

Superteam for a regular season maybe. It looked like they weren't trying hard enough and blew the series but in reality they were an old and slow team. They don't have prime Kane or Tarasenko. Kreider isn't a speedster anymore. Panarin hasn't been a playoff performer the last two seasons. I believe they were a highly overrated playoff team, very similar to Boston.
