DEW's are likely going to be on 6th gen fighters. They would probably start as microwave beams to fry electronics of incoming missiles instead of being directly used against opposing aircraft, but I wouldn't be surprised if power generation tech gets good enough to mount an anti-aircraft DEW on a 6th or 7th gen fighter

12:02 When you mention the bay doors needing to open before the sidewinder can fire, this is already accounted for in the real F-22 when in ACM the sidewinder pops out of the bay for a 'peek-a-boo' in order to search for the target and get lock. Thus, I believe this process is modeled incorrectly in DCS where you get lock while the bay door is still closed. Could have saved you the extra second and scored you the kill possibly.

AIM 9X will lock after launch. It's seeker dosent need to see the target prior to launch it'll go where the HMD (if so equipped) boresight is pointed or where the IRST tells it too... And then, while it's one the way - it'll lock the target. Pretty slick.

For anyone wondering, 5th Gen requires stealth characteristics so more likely the 6th will require it too. Unfortunately, the ADFX-01 doesn’t have the design for stealth characteristics.

@@Edo_Ginting I mean the definitely can work, probably won't look like that once its operational. The US and Russia have made forward swept wing prototypes that were feasible but failed due to greats amount of instability destroying Flight Control Systems (New computers could fix that, poor stability at slower speeds during landing (why it would not look that same as the image, plus a shit ton of other things), and warping/bending of the wingtips during flight (Was believed that new materials could fix that). If you look at initial designs of all other aircraft you would find that none of them were sufficient in their model and prototype phase. Aircraft designing his very hard, but it has to start somewhere.

@@dizzyizzie6354 Bruh... the basic design principle for stealth is the shape. You can't silently hide an aircraft that is not shaped to hide itself. It has already been known that the B-21 will essentially be a smaller B-2 with some physical design changes to enhance stealth. If you didn't know flying wings and diamond shaped aircraft (F-117) are the most stealthy design choices. This literally comes from books from the most top military aviation engineers in the US. Stealth additions can include coating and redacted computers that work like jamming pods, but they are extremely limited.

One of the objectives of the USAF NGAD program is a 100% increase in stealth capability compared to 5th gen. From what I remember they also want it to Supercruise at Mach 2 or something like that. Real magic shit

The 9x missile that hits at 10:28 was able to hit without his nose being on because it simply dropped out, and pivoted itself before using any thrust. IT'S nose was already ON when thrust was engaged! 😮

I think we're already pretty close to the limit of making improvements in aerodynamic shapes and that kind of stuff. Expect some improvements with engine and aerodynamic efficiency, but I think the real 6th gen is going to be more to do with sensor and software improvements, and the differences in doctrine those enable.

Quite the opposite actually, stealth considerations brought new compromises to aerodynamic efficiency and performance. The raptor for example is airspeed limited by it's radar absorbent material. I do see a return to aerodynamic efficiency as stealth becomes less viable with the aforementioned advances in sensory technology.

The same way there were limits of piston fighters there are limits of jets and we are at the limit. You have a very good point. From the external look of this fighter it looks like it has very high wing loading and should be less efficient than F22 in a 2 circle turn fight.

It is a known fact that NGADs all have intense flamenco and orchestra as an aura surrounding them wherever they go

Also the ability to produce them at scale. Open architecture means the Air Force can simply order 5 more on a moment's notice and get them without having to start up a whole supply chain. That, and the ability to update the design with improvements and field them quickly. Do this instead of designing a whole new plane.

I think it's less so "disappointing" and more so "unexpected", or more accurately "down to earth". People have an expectation of future technology being flying cars and laser guns. Technology can develop fast but incrementally, where to the present observer would seem slow. And more often than not in a way people don't expect. A new 6th gen fighter could end up looking like a modified F-35 on the outside but have a whole new set of very advanced avionics and weapons systems. Or it might look really futuristic and cool on the outside but internally it's only a little better than what we already have. Or it could be somewhere in-between but the real crazy future tech is on a component people overlook. For example take the army's new XM5 rifle. On the outside it just looks like a modern AR-10 with a lot of bells and whistles. On the inside it's still using a design that's almost 60 years old. The real crazy future tech is in the unassuming digital optic mounted to it, and how with new training doctrines combined with the new equipment has the potential to turn every grunt into a deadly sharpshooter.

The main idea going into 6th gen was to finally ditch vertical stabilizers to bring the insane stealth characteristics of the stealth bomber over to fighters. They've maxed that out in traditional fighter designs otherwise. New coatings may help but they can only do so much. But they are key as even current stealth coatings eat up 70-80% of radar.

I always found it silly that Belka only bothered to shield off everything except the front air intakes, and that the AWACS found that out after about a mere 5 minutes of "analysis".

Man, can you imagine split-throttling in that NGAD?

Question about the set-up. You went into each round with the sun behind you; when you merged, on your 180 he was in or around the sun, giving him the advantage. Is it possible to alternate each round, or have the computer select random headings (though head-on of course)?

Supposedly, the NGAD isn't really a _fighter_ per se, but more of a parts bin that future projects can take from in order to make advanced fighters. One such part is the XA100 engine, which recently was tested in an F-35. Though it seems that an airframe that is designed to take these parts is also in the works.

It should be also worth noting that the ADFX-01, in Strangereal lore, is actually a Generation 4 aircraft. Other than the fact that its highly maneuverable, its really not all that remarkable compared to the other AC designs. Fight a CFA-44 if you wanna Gen 6 fight.

Nah, Wyvern is cool and all, but conseptually outdated and way off from what NGAD should be. If anything, ADF-11F Raven is an ultimate NGAD: fast, stealthy, incredible combat range, UAV command&control, optionally manned/crewed, superconnectivity, etc.

Said NGAD was involved in a classified coup attempt by Anarchists to hijack an massive MIRV missile to reset the world order. It has such good EW systems that it's all but invincible to missiles and the only weakness it has is it's front air intakes, meaning you have to hope to ram a missile from head on for a chance to kill this thing.

That was awesome to watch. The NGAD design for this looks very similar to the new generation variable fighters from Macross Delta. Which were later versions of the YF-19 from Macross Plus. If like Anime at all and you haven’t seen the later. I highly recommend it. The plot was inspired by the contest between the YF-23 Black Widow and the YF-22 Raptor.

the Killswitch concept from Pan Spatial looks like that it would absolutely dominate in a Dogfight. With the option to launch from the top of the bottom of the aircraft, the ability for a high off boresight launch is probably even greater than the AIM-9X.

Whoever designed that NGAD for DCS has to be a fan of Macross Plus. It's an almost exact representation of Isamu's YF-19 without the Tomcat's variable swept wing capability.

Ive also worked on the F-35 late 90's tech, impressive in its own way. I feel like you will be a bit underwhelmed by the 6th Gen jets. The official concepts seen so far being the F/A-XX of the US Navy with a tail-less delta configuration according to Boeings renderings, the Airbus/Dassault FCAS which looks similar to a 5th Gen jet however with a tail configuration like that of the YF-23, the BAE Tempest which is similar to the FCAS is many aspects as well as the Mitsubishi F-X which seems to be similar to the YF-23 too. All of that implies that a greater emphasis was placed on stealth. Furthermore higher speeds for supercruise would be a next step as well. The major improvements over the 5th Gen will be systems integration, avionics, and being able to effectively work with or as UAVs. Some suggest in the future the use of lasers to counter missiles too.

Directed energy weapons will be a key component of 6th gen aircraft, both for offensive and defensive use. It's gonna be scary when UAV's are flying around with death rays.

What is going to power a directed energy weapon on a fighter aircraft? The turbine can’t afford that much power, even in a capacitor bank.

@@loumencken9644 imagine a defensive laser that basically renders missiles useless against it. Guns/AAA will become more important than ever.

the missiles look like they are launched, then turn very quickly, then fire their engines, so they might have little boosters to get them to aim straight at you before their main rockets go so they can just bee-line to target

The NGAD looks like it has a thigh gap, as if they made a Secretary Bird into a jet.

Okay so I am new here. Been enjoying the content, but what I really would like to see is the F-16XL. I get it , I am not in a large group, I just hope one day someone gets around to making that jet, I always wanted to see how it would have handled itself.

Yeah, F-16XL would be super interesting. I just have to think it would basically be a Eurofighter, though

Damn I didn't realize the NGAD was out like that

I was stationed at cherry point for a bit. I remember this hurricane coming in and those Tomcats came in and landed at the base to ride the storm out. Man I loved seeing those skull and crossbones on those F-14’s.

I know the model is just a placeholder but the real one won't have vertical stabilizers or canards. It'll basically be a triangle with as few external features as possible.
