NFTs are Securities - Episode 132
Cas Piancey and @bennettftomlin discuss the recent SEC lawsuits against Impact Theory and Stoner Cats. Both were NFT media projects that to different extents promised rewards to investors and have now settled with the SEC. Stoner Cats was a Mila Kunis project that featured Ashton Kutcher and Chris Rock as actors.
This video was recorded on September 20th, 2023.

RE: music industry. Royalties are negotiated. Most people who work on music, like those in the film industry, are paid flat rate for what they do. Studio staff, etc. For small artists royalties usually amount to fuck-all and pretty much everyone involved minus the act will work for hourly rates or one-off payments + credit (guest slots on tracks, studio production, etc, even songwriting sometimes). Artists who sell more will tend to have more powerful contributors who are able to negotiate percentage points on royalties - producers, etc.
Cas Coin Cat = CCC = Crypto Critics Corner
FYI, I'm an attorney and I enjoy your explanations better than attorney's discussions on NFT and blockchain. Great job.
So basically we don't really know what the SEC's view on royalty mechanisms is because the case never went to court?
I wonder why they (Stoner Cats) didn't just do a regulation crowdfunding registration? Maybe they didn't even think to look into it; but seems like that would cost less than the fine. The cynic in me says the SEC is at fault here for not releasing a Guidance document that lays out when an NFT would qualify as an investment contract so creators have something to point to. FinCEN did this with the Crypto companies that need to register with them, so what is so hard for the SEC to do the same.
Your thumbnail skills peak here. I laughed so hard when I saw that & usually I'd wait to listen when I had a chore, but I just FOUND a chore to start to justify listening to this RIGHT AWAY. Thanks, dudes.
Music, TV and Movies are mass market media that makes money from number of views, this is true for the indie film maker on youtube to Disney to music/tv/movie producers/writers etc etc
Another innovation from CasCoin the Cas Coin Cat 🐈 is a great investment.
Cas Coin Cat? Alliteration makes all my financial decisions, I'm all in!
Glad I got in on the ground floor of CasCoin, I’m a quintillionaire now!
The Cas stache and Bennet beard are on point!
For all the time spent talking about NFTs, all the money lost and scammed, all the claims that NFTs are more than just jpgs….where are the NFT tickets? NFT book rights? NFT house deeds?
❤ the Awesome 🤠
Let’s do this !
cas coin value has sky rocketed with cas' sweet threads - now he can never shave
'what portion of artists sell a work and then get a portion of the resale?'
Hello algorithm!
Cas is making no sense here, Royalties for infinitely copyable creative works are not the same as buying NFTs, as an investment, an investor gets return on investment from total profit.
