New York Marathon 2023

Спорт

The New York City Marathon does not disappoint. I started the day in Brooklyn to see the pros race one of the toughest marathons. And then we bounced around the city to Harlem and Central Park. Weather was great and the crowds were relentless. There were so many great storylines to follow, and the elite men and women put on a show.
Tamirat Tola set a new course record in the Adidas Adios Pro Evo 1
Hellen Obiri takes the win on the women’s side to complete the rare Boston-NYC same-year double
Edna Kiplagat does Edna things by running an incredibly disciplined race to finish 7th at the age of 43
Ed Cheserek finally gave us the marathon debut we’ve all been waiting for
Kellyn Taylor and Molly Huddle returned to the marathon after pregnancy and secure 1st and 2nd American woman status
Koen Naert has what I believe may be the best race of his career so far with a Top 5 finish
Elkanah Kibet notches a solid 2nd place American finish after a DNF at Worlds over the summer
Sydney Gidabuday has a breakthrough performance as 3rd American
disclosures: I paid for travel, lodging, and expenses for this trip. No one paid me to make this video. No one will get a chance to preview any of my footage before this video goes up on KZread.

I spent a lot of time talking to Mrs. Space Cadet and her husband. They told me that there wasn't nearly the amount of attention for the night finishers last year. Special thanks should go to both Mrs. Space Cadet and Ali Feller who have been telling about how great the night finish is. And thank you to NYRR for recognizing all of us runners.

tbh, it's a pretty terrible NYC recap in terms of results. I didn't get to the finish line, and I had no idea why certain athletes DNF'd of where. but I hope that I have done the race justice in terms of showing what it's like to be here.

Thanks Mike for cheering us all on at the marathon the other day (and thanks again for helping pace at the Fleet Feet shakeout on Friday)! Just watched your marathon footage, and now realize it was your voice I heard offering us encouragement in East Harlem when I was with the 3:05 pace group. You can just make out me and my Front Runners teammate Kester (bib 667) trailing the 3:05 cluster at that spot! Happy to report that in the end I time-qualified for Chicago 2024 after all, finishing my first-ever marathon in a time of 3:03:46. What an amazing experience it was. Thanks again for all that you do to inspire runners of all abilities. Hope we can cross paths again soon in Chicago! - Jason (Brooklyn, bib 3036, Front Runners New York)

A veritable who’s who in the running community we know from YT! I always appreciate the name labels since I don’t recognize all of them. As usual the editing is terrific, and you captured the full range of experiences without giving too much weight to the pros (who we see over and over elsewhere) over the gamut of everyday runners. The slowest ones arriving in the dark were most moving of all.

I feel like running a marathon in 4-6 hours is great and all but the people that really impress me are the ones that finish it after everyone else has gone home. They never quit, often times they aren’t the most athletically gifted and they have every chance to turn around and they don’t. They never quit. They are the real champs…..

I'm spoiled as I live down the street from the Barclay Center in Brooklyn or mile 8 and always watching my wife run it (#8 for her) and then jumping on the subway up to Central Park to catch her at 24 mile on 90st Street entering the park. Oh, Kofuzi! This video is tremendous! If you could bottle up the feeling that you captured during the last 90 seconds of your video, you'd be a VERY rich man! Thanks for sticking around until the end to allow those of us who weren't there in person to experience some of those champions in action. SO moving. SO inspirational. SO good!

Amazing day, my first New York Marathon, had covid the week before the race, can't believe I made it round. Crowds were incredible, but man, its a tough course!
