    I didn't like the polished flanks at first, but its grown on me and I actually like it now. If you really want it brushed, any decent jeweler or watchmaker should be able to brush it for you for not that much. Just make sure its an actual jeweler and not like a Jared or something

    Nice to see the two pieces side by side, for me personally there are things on each watch that I find more to my taste, but as you quite rightly point out the whole exercise is very subjective, I do agree that the mk1 has a better hand set but I prefer the Indices & the crown guards on the mk2. But for me personally I think that the mk1 just wins it for the overall more tool watch look particularly the chunkier bracelet! But that wouldn't stop me from buying the newer version. Which is actually on my "to do" list for this year. 😊

    I love the "Aquis" text on the dial. I like when watches have "names" and aren't simply just model numbers, so I like seeing that on the dial. Even though I'm sure people would be mad at Oris for copying Rolex, I'd love it even more if the "Aquis" text was in red. the answer is obviously subjective to which one someone already owns or has availability to. I like them both but just bought the newer one. I like the new dial printing and the slimmer taper of the bracelet on the new one. Nothing wrong with the old one either, I like the more squared off edge on the bezel as opposed to the pointier one on the new one. I really like the color on the new one I bought with the black dial and orange hands which glow yellow. Its somewhat unique and different.

    I thank you for the video firstly. Great job. I own the Titan chronograph and the small seconds titan 46mm as well as the new 43.5 green hulk and 46 small seconds blue. All beautiful and have to say the new case and dial are slightly more refined although the date is no easier to read. Much of a muchness really. But nice here is my problem with the new ones. The bracelet actually make me sick in comparison to the older. They have sucked the testesterone out of it. Not as chunky, not as wide and less contours as a result. Lost it 3D effect so to speak. The clasp is too small and I need glasses to read the "oris" on it. I am selling both new ones and keeping the chunky manly titans. Having said that the both go head to head with Breitling. Omega. Even Tudor. Value for money they kick their ass. Love Oris.

    Had the old one with orange markers a few years ago and loved it so much. now i have the new one (clipperton limited). i like the new one much more. it is not that chunky, especially concerning the bracelet and lugs. the newer one seems to be more refined, more mature, balanced and a bit more like a dress diver (if its the glossy one - here its „hidden“ by the matte finish) than the old „tool aquis“. but depends on what you like :) But to be honest, comparing the all matte new aquis to one of the greatest old glossy versions is quite unfair - i think the matte version is the most boring reference you can buy atm. the indices look so flat just because the dial is matte - a glossy dial changes so much. the refining of the new aquis really comes to life, if you choose a glossy one, imho. forgive me, dear owner - of course just my taste :o)

  • @PerthWAtch

    The Clipperton edition is cool, I love the color combo on that, as well as that case back! Is this old model one of the "greatest"? I wasn't aware of that. In any case, I do think it is subjective in the end, and some definitely prefer matte rather than gloss/polish finishes. If I had a new model in the same finish & color lying around the house, rest assured I certainly would have used that one for comparison ;)

    Ivan, I'm tempted to pick-up a discarded Aquis from a disillusioned fan boy, in order to trim the lugs on a band saw, to a 20-22mm lug width. Then submit the mod for evaluation here. But I fear I would be overwhelmed by requests to mod every proprietary banded Aquis ever made. ( Btw, you must have replaced the oddball triple slotted band attachment screws with standard slotted screws on your piece, but left them in the crown guards, eh? ) So, what about a company which nearly imperceptibly tweaks it's designs (for the worse in this case) and then raises the price? Time for a hostile takeover or just a new President?

  • @PerthWAtch

    @PerthWAtch

    4 жыл бұрын

    That would be an interesting mod to try... you must be quite handy if you can finish it well after that! I haven’t changed the screws here - the old model had standard slot screws for the bracelet attachment (and triple slot for the crown guards, which shouldn’t need to be touched). Personally (and mostly subjectively) I feel that the older model is better, but I cannot objectively tell anyone the new one is inferior, it’s mostly my preferences.

    Just got the newer one with a grey dial. Picked that color for two reasons, all most all of my divers are blue, and saved almost $200 hundred dollars opting for that color, on rubber strap which is really comfortable to wear. I paid $1129US for it grey, the blue dial was $1290US(both on rubber straps). As far as new two old, without comparing them side to side would never have noticed. I do prefer less wording on yours than on the newer one, outside of that both are fine. No watch is perfect, but thee only thing that sort of upsets me is the strap/bracelet lugs, it would be an effort to go for a third party strap, yes there are 3rd party rubber straps that one can get that you just use your buckles and attach it. But going to a NATO, or for me to go for a bracelet would require me to get adaptors, or just bite the bullet and buy an Oris Bracelet. I do wish I knew that before buying, but in the end would still have bought the Aquis, and even if the price was the same would have went grey or green. Just checked Ebay I did see some third party leather straps for about $40, replacement 3rd party rubber straps for like $20.00 (using your own buckles). Oris replacement straps without buckles are $167 (really, for two piece of rubber with no hardware, add $120 if you need a new buckle.) and $440 if I want to go for an Oris Bracelet. The leather straps using their own common hardware. I did read somewhere that Strapcode may come up with a bracelet for the Aquis, that would be a good solution. Still that's what life is with horology. Heard of far worse stories on Omega and Rolex Bracelets. And that is why I bought my Seamaster with bracelet. Even if I didn't want to use it, get a decent 20mm strap, and put the bracelet in the watches box in case of resale. Generally I don't like going grey, but when you're talking aprox a third of the value of the watch in price difference, I'll take my chances. Even if a reputable dealer provides their own warranty. And even better that it's using a Selita movement that is not hard to find servicing with a common movement.

    I would highly recommend keeping an eye on Ebay and Chrono24 for an Oris bracelet. Every so often you can find a new w/o tags or a mint pre-owned bracelet for a little over $300 US. I bought a blue Aquis on Oris' leather strap a little over a year ago, and I liked it. A few weeks ago, I bit the bullet and bought a bracelet (new w/o tags for about $320), and I am so glad that I did. I've fallen in love with the watch all over again since putting the bracelet on. Aquises look good on leather, and great on rubber, but I really think that the bracelet is integral to the rest of the design language of the watch. I hadn't heard about Strapcode coming out with a bracelet for the Aquis, but I'm excited by the prospect.
