Oris Aquis Titanium Review - Stone Cold Stunner

I want to thank my friend Brooks from my local Oris authorized dealer for lending this Aquis as well as a forthcoming all bronze Big Crown in for presentation. It's very kind and helpful of you! I will place Brooks's contact here for those looking for a trusted place to purchase Oris, Nomos, Bell & Ross and Carl F. Bucherer. If you live here in Utah, definitely go visit the store and have fun talking watches.

    Well done and loved your description of the magical Aquis dial. It is modern and not some tired, boring old-fashioned looking watch. That’s a great looking Aquis, but then I love them all. Personally, I could care less about the lume. I’m not a vampire. I could care less about the non in-house movement-I have the blue Aquis and it runs about a second fast a day. Next, I’ll be getting the green Aquis. Nothing meets that perfect sunburst dial.

    It’s lovely . In the last month or so I’ve brought in the grey relief and the gmt both at good sale prices . The new releases of the aquis are so dynamic and just great looking divers. No problems with the selita I’ve owned probably ten oris over the years and never had any issues probably 5 or six a day has been as inaccurate as I’ve had . My two new pieces are plus 1 and minus 2 per day so certainly no issues . However I accept that you may be unlucky and greater guarantees from oris would help.

    The regulation is bang on, if you put the watch on a time grapher you will notice that is a very low variation between different positions, I own a Big Crown Propilot and is losing 3 sec/day and the variation between different positions is +/- 1 sec therefore the regulation is within COSC certification even though is not a chronometer certified movement....

    I think 1500 for a watch like this is fair . The quality of fit /finish / and bracelet , has usually been pretty top notch with Oris from my past experiences. Me personally , I wish they would do away with the Selitas and just go elabore grade eta . They are slightly more expensive than selita , but I fear with an inhouse movement a watch like this would the cost 2500-3500.

    Great review, congratulations on a wonderful job again. Oris is so close to taking down Omega, Breitling and Tudor. As you said, lume the bezel, put a slide adjust on the clasp, a certified SW 300 instead of the 200. Bit of work on the anti refection, and this piece kicks butt. As for the Captain Cook. I just bought a 45mm. Nice titanium, clean dial, good looking especially with the dish shaped bezel. But OMG !! what a disappointment in quality. Very poor bezel action, too light and no snap at all. Bery cheap feel. My Pagani has a better feel and that's not complimenting. The legibility of numbers on the bezel is poor in low light. Very poor crown grip. Lume dies off quickly. Lugs built for a sumo wrestler. You really question why at this price point, that an experienced watch maker would make so many unforgivable mistakes. I don't get it. Talking about getting things perfect fyi have a look at the Bremont S 500.

  • @wvdavidr

    Your videos on Oris always end with a criticism of the Sellita movement's specs.. I roll my eyes. I need to do a response video of mine on the timegrapher. Mine all run within a few seconds per day. I think Oris watches are punching so far above their weight class, I'd like to see videos of worthwhile opponents. I don't think you will find any in-house movements with that accuracy for $2000 or so.

  • @rousseau327

    @rousseau327

    4 жыл бұрын

    I absolutely agree that the Oris punches above its weight, and many anecdotal accounts will show that it often performs beyond expectations set by the movement's specs. But given that it isn't regulated, if it performing less than perfect, you have no wiggle room with the manufacturer to replace the movement or have it regulated with the manufacturer, because it's technically still within spec; your only option would be to take it to an independent watchmaker to do the regulating. This anecdotal "evidence" of a watch performing much better than what it says on paper is not just exclusive to Oris, mind you. Seiko, Hamilton, Sinn, Christopher Ward, Ball, all of these watches have specs that are not plus/minus a couple seconds a day, but you'll see a lot of people who own watches from these companies that perform very very well, like your Oris is.

    I don't doubt you have strong running, accurate selitta David. It is certainly possible and I've owned some myself. The issue is- that isn't the rule for a base grade selitta. It really is a luck of the draw situation. I also said in that segment I would be fine with selitta if they upgraded and regulated to multiple positions. I don't critique Hublot or Bell and Ross for offering top grade regulated selittas in watches that double the retail of this Aquis. So having that in the Oris would be even better. Also like I said an in house chronometer would certainly raise the price of the watch which I would also be okay with. I've had anywhere from spot on base selittas to +12 ones in all the Oris I've owned.

    Nice watch but a scratch magnet for sure and imho way too pricey. Spend another grand and get a Seiko MM 300 or 600.

    I get that having options is a good thing. Price points are there to suit the entire buyers market but frankly I think Oris is so overrated. It looks great on KZread but when you handle the Aquis in person it just feels cheap and like a sub 1000 dollar every day watch. I think for someone who aspires in getting into nice watches or even luxury pieces they ought to look elsewhere. Sometimes it's tough to save that extra money but I'm going to have to stand for it on this subject. You can pick up a pre-owned black bay for a few grand and yes it's probably 500 to a thousand more than this but you aren't losing your money like on this Oris but actually purchasing a real true luxury timepiece. So many other great options for a little more. I'd say save your money and be prepared to drop 2500 to 3000 to really have something special.

    No worries bro we all have differing opinions. If I had a limited budget and could only have one expensive watch I would probably want a seamaster or black bay as well. But I just don't see your comment of this feeling cheap in person. I think it is outstanding and well worth buying. The more the merrier
