New video shows what led to traffic being shut down on I-5 in Everett for several hours
More than two years after his death, David Babcock's family is still in mourning.
"I miss him more than anything," says Babcock's daughter, Elizabeth, as she breaks down in tears. "He wasn't just my dad. He was my best friend."
"It's like a wall comes down and your whole life changes," says widow Regina Babcock.
In February of 2022, Sedro-Woolley police noticed Babcock, 51, driving a car with the wrong license plate.

Excellent work by law enforcement. Helping clear up the courts too.

She said everyone who knows him thinks he's a complete idiot, and they're surprised something like this didn't happen much sooner.

Boat country is 2 miles north of where it happened. They are right on the border of Everett and Marysville. Plus, that business is located on the SB side. They were nowhere close to the incident. I had started to wonder if it was an 'innocent' mistake, meant to lead the viewer to possibly believe that the perpetrator in this incident was unjustifiably taken down by the police. Whether it was an honest mistake or intentional, it should have been noticed and fixed immediately if King 5 wants to retain any of its waning credibility.

I guess you could say the suspect wanted to get nailed....
I disagree with the trooper's reaction. Whether there was a hanner or not, he received plenty of shooting training. Why he didn't try to shoot his leg or arm and once hurt, he can detain him. This trooper reacted without thinking. He left his emotions and adrenalin control him. It was poorly handled. I hope his family investigates this as I am sure there were plenty of witnesses to confirm whether there was a hammer or not
@Dyna78
Ай бұрын
Once YOU get some firearm training and try to simulate taking a shot at an arm or leg while someone runs at you, you will know why the officer did not do that instead...because it's nearly impossible. Additionally, it is quite possible that the man was significantly under the influence of a variety of drugs, in which case even MULTIPLE hits in the arms or legs may have virtually no effect on his behavior. Then what? The officer would likely still have had to resort to lethal placement of shots. And I suppose then you would be saying, "Why did the officer have to shoot that man 12 times!?" Regarding your mention that the trooper reacted without thinking, I would argue that you commented without thinking....without thinking of the reality of the situation, and apparently your low knowledge in regards to self defense. Finally, King 5 did a poor job of detailing what was known about the situation. For example: The man with the hammer had called in multiple statements that he was on his way to kill someone. Once he got to the construction area, he proceeded to attack multiple construction workers, to the extent that the workers eventually got away from him because they apparently could not stop or restrain him, even as he continued to attack them. Imagine that...big, burly 'construction workers' could not stop or restrain the man. The man then apparently tried to use a vehicle to ram into the workers or run them down. By the way, I'm pretty sure that would qualify as attempted murder (multiple counts?) with a deadly weapon (the vehicle, not a hammer). I am confident that most people would agree that this man had demonstrated his intent to injure others, and was continuing to escalate his violence towards innocent bystanders, etc. Which brings me back to you...what if YOU had been one of the people sitting in a car, stuck there in traffic as this all unfolded? Do you think that man would have been compassionate towards you and left you alone, or would he have let HIS emotions and adrenaline (as well as any drugs he may have been using) control him and his actions towards YOU? Even if he did not have a hammer, my guess is that you would have been in significant danger. You can disagree with the trooper's reaction all you want, but the sad REALITY is that he likely saved someone else's life (possibly multiple lives) as a result of his actions. If you had been sitting in your car nearby and the man attacked you, would you value your life over his? (Let's not forget that he had made multiple threats and was actively attacking people) If he had spotted a young mother in a car and proceeded to break the window and attack her or her children, would their lives have been less important than his? The sad reality is that there are EVIL people in this world, whether by chance or by choice, and sooner or later they may cross paths with other people (in this case, the construction workers, innocent, uninvolved people on the highway, the family members and other random people the man had threatened, and last but not least the officer himself) and that officer had to make a split second decision to let the carnage continue to escalate or put a stop to it. I'm sure the officer would have much rather had the man calm down and comply, but the man chose not to, and paid the ultimate price for it. Your apparent inability to put yourself in his shoes is quite sad, to be honest.
I cant see the hammer.
Let this be a lesson to those who make the irreversible decision to charge at a police officer😢
The hammer guy was having a breakdown. Where was the non-lethal assistance? A life could have been saved

So the Trooper tried to de-escalte him and he charged the Trooper, forcing the Trooper to push him away. The Trooper simply stepped back and drew his weapon and fired four times at center mass to Stop the threat.

@@Zeaiclies Understood on the sequence of events. The cop had basically two "tools" to deal with this situation: talk and lethal force. Do you see how law enforcement needs more intermediate tools?
