    Modular drone swarms could be useful in reverse as well. Sort of like MIRV missal tech. A swarm is kept as a unit in a launch system like a catapult, then spreads out as needed or when it reaches its destination.

    Thomas Bitmata and MinChan Kim, worked with the company to "teach" and race the AI race drone about a year ago. They did multiple videos on it. It's surprising how much it took for the AI to finally beat MCK (MinChan Kim). If you do not kno FPV drone racing, look him up and watch a video. It's hard to believe its a person flying.

    Not an expert: It is an interesting idea to make individual drones combine when necessary. However, more complex drone structures would have a problem with lift, as rotors operating next to each other would create interfering airflows (eddy currents) which would lower efficiency. Thereby larger structures would gradually lose more and more carrying capacity the bigger they get. This could be cureable when the individual drones are spaced far apart, which would make the design less versatile for shaping

  • @MrJdsenior

    @MrJdsenior

    3 ай бұрын

    2nd order stuff. If that were a problem, and the props would have to be very closely spaced to have much interaction, you could just put short ducts (rings) around them to mitigate. Even axially, there are push/pull configurations used in fluids, both gas and liquid, like counter rotating propellers on aircraft like the OV10 or on boats, on the same shaft (axis wise, positionally, not literally) and this is common on drones, as well, usually with a separate motor/prop combination fore and aft. That last case offers benefit, in that if an engine on one boom fails, you still have lift on that boom from the remaining one, which if designed to operate on one motor alone, at least long enough to get to the ground, could be very important, especially where occupant safety is an issue. There you have a LOT of interaction, and the flow trailing motor does experience some loss, but not as much as you'd think, since the 'winding up' the forward prop induces is actually beneficial to the counter-rotating rear propeller. There are losses due to irregular flow, though, as you say. In the close proximity tip to tip orientation, as in a typical hex or octocopter where they aren't widely spaced at all, they don't seem to experience the problem you posited to any appreciable extent, if you want an example to demonstrate my point. You also see them spaced rather closely on the wings of rotating VTOL aircraft being designed today. I expect that there is a possibility, if designed properly, you could actually make those tip vortices work to your advantage. Cheers.
