Well... With $1.8 billion dollars in the humanoid robot industry as of 2023 I'd say they're definitely "in the game." Also... This robot isn't being "planned" to be sold, it IS BEING SOLD, at $16k. That's means many rich people have already bought one. They're limited in ability at the moment, so the want and need for one are still very small, but that's going up dramatically with our increases in AI and Machine Learning technologies.

I wouldn’t put much weight on the price. China has a long history of using subsidies to capture market shares and push competitors out of the field. The Chinese government has announced their policy of going heavy into the humanoid robot field. I’m not saying it isn’t an impressive project but appearances can be deceiving when dealing with the party.

@@Roman-lv1zt Firstly, whataboutism is a fallacy. A company that is propped up by government sanctions is not going to be a better bet just because everyone else is doing it and it won’t make the market for robots any healthier to have companies forced out by dumping. Secondly there is a massive difference between the kind of dumping China does across the planet and handing out a a few penny ante grants to losers like Intel. Do you really think a few billion is going to help Intel regain their position, let alone drive anyone out of the market for chips? And no, I won’t be silent about China just because someone else is taking a tiny page out of their massive book on how to screw things up. If you don’t like that tell the manager of your bot farm to put more commenters on the case. 😆

It depends on the application. If you just want your robots to do real work, you don't need a robot that looks good. If you want a good looking robot, China also has A LOT of simpler robots that look almost indistinguishable from a real person. They were displayed in a robot show in China last year. They look almost exactly like a real person.

You are thinking the right way and the wrong way. $16k is cheap to buy a slave. That's good! Put aside PC memes, slaves have always been good business. But your mind immediately goes to the negative side, well, I work a slave job and I will be displaced. That may be true. But then you do what you can to buy some slaves and then they plant food for you and harvest and prepare it. They fix your car for you (thus displacing the mechanic which you no longer pay). By the way, big winners here will be those that repair them. HUGE winners.
