Awesome shots of the buggy and really well explained! Subbed
Yeah you make us want one now. Great content man!!!!!!
That was a very interesting 20 minutes, Rex! Great to see you working this buggy out and the running commentary was excellent! Love the buggy, it looks so cool but there are issues to be careful of as you pointed out! Thanks for sharing, dude!

Put some aluminum rims on it to make the front end a little heavier or at weight to the frontend. And change out those front wheels

@@brianargo1659 Hi Brian, that sounds like something I could try for sure! currently I'll keep the wheels because of budget, but if I could I would certainly go for a set of dirt race wheels and tires just for handling purposes. in terms of weight, this is a very hefty model in comparison to many others but I'd guess that youre correct in saying if i add weight to the front end it would understeer less. thanks for the feedback and make it a great day! 🙏
That thing is a beast! I dig it!
Awesome footage! Looks like the brushless makes you and the car happier.

It does!, but not needed, I think 13.5 is plenty, and silver can can still be very fun
Thanks for making this video. I reckon you need that spare wheel ontop for extra protection lol. Loved seeing it in action on the dirt with the 10.5T.
You kind of got off to a rocky start with this one! I am glad you are still liking it and I hope to see more of it! I have yet to hear anything about mine so I assuming it is not coming any time soon.

yea it wasnt smooth at all, but it was my fault, loose slipper, loose diff, and no consideration for gearing in the beginning lol. It's a hefty boy too i forgot to mention, I hope you get yours soon, you'll be able to see better that this is not the typical abs because you've basically got a museum there to compare it to
Great video. Thanks for sharing! Camel Yellow is perfect on the BBX. I may copy yours.
Nice runs! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.👍😊

@@rexrcs waiting for it to arrive.. Any day now.😁
seems like a winner, looks like your getting it sorted out, several things affect the steering and push. id worry less about the rear toe and try putting a little toe in on the front, different front tires maybe. a soft rear can make it push, toe in the rear helps with squat and squat unloads the steering under power. anyway seems like your experimenting and will get closer, do keep in mind the 2wd cars will never corner like a 4wd.
Hi there Rex, a very thorough and comprehensive testing session with the Tamiya BBX. Interesting content about the running in period of the buggy and what to look out for, in this practical insight to getting the BBX built and running efficiently. Great video. Best wishes to you and the family 😊

Hi Rex I think a change of tyres especially on the front would help cure that understeer on the loose stuff . You could try some thicker oil in the front shocks to stop it pitching so heavily on the front end. Have a look at the df03 spring tuning set that usually works well in a lot of Tamiya buggy’s. Keep up the good work ;)

I learned in sim racing that if you soften the front springs in relativity to the rear springs it cases more oversteer
@rexrcs
11 ай бұрын
Yes to a certain extent, soft springs will allow the weight transfer, but if they are too soft, once the weight transfers, the springs are not strong enough to push the tire into the ground to grab grip
Haven't had any problems with mine and have been bashing it for over 30 minutes on different types of terrain every day since I completed its build. I have put an intermediate brushless combo (Copperhead ESC, 7700kv Castle motor) on it and it's not exactly a tame car with that electronics but it's not showing any signs of fatigue and drives excellently well.
@rexrcs

I didnt really have any problems, just didnt tighten the slipper or the diff enough, and in the beginning I had no consideration for gearing and put a high rpm touring car motor in an off road buggy, bad choice made by me. im happy to hear you are enjoying your BB-01! BBX GANG!

Hi! I wouldnt even call them issues for real though, it didnt even break, just loose diff and loose slipper which is normal, driveshaft popping out however wasnt good but didnt actually break, my thumbnail was a bit of clickbait lol, thanks for stopping in!
Perfect scale being durable , anything bigger they heavy and expensive and easy to break .
You could try Softening the rebound in the front shocks and or add a little bit of spring rate in the rear once it’s close you can turn the front in by adding or reducing rear sway bar. Basically you’re just trying to Slow and reduce the weight transition to the back so the front has more weight on it to grip

hi Rex, in the video you mentioned you'd change into brushless. I'm interested in what you ultimately used for ESC/motor/servo. I'm a newbie at this and trying to get some recommendations on products. Thanks

After running a bit now, I think a good 13.5 sensored brushless with 25-27tooth pinion I think would be ideal. trigger control is the most important upgrade
Tamiya made a bunch of 80s kids happy with this. This is about as fast we could get something like this to go back then with the technology available. However it is Tamiya. I always loved them but durability wasn’t their strong suit. Fun for parks and putting it together with your kid. Anything more and you’re rolling the dice.

Get a DN01 Zahhak. That’s the Tamiya 2WD that you just can’t kill (and maybe the only Tamiya that doesn’t break on a windy day)
@rexrcs

Always been intrigued by that one! 211 and 201 also
@michaelinzitari
11 ай бұрын
@@rexrcs well those models are better but the problem is they are so expensive and that’s if you can find them. The Zahhak is less than half the price and once you buy the optional slipper you’ve basically got the same buggy in terms of the plastics
If you want to compare this buggy to other 2wd buggies the Kyosho Dirt Master would be the one to test this against. What is interesting is the the Tamiya BBX has a ball diff but no slipper clutch. The Kyosho Dirt Master has a slipper clutch but no ball diff. I would recommend to make sure both of these buggies have both a ball diff and a slipper clutch too. Thoughts?
@rexrcs
11 ай бұрын
I dont think this buggy is comparable to the Dirt master per say, they are quite different, the dirt master is like a typical 2wd race buggy, meant for a track, and can be bashed. the BBX is more a modelers rc buggy, with capabalities to race. ball diffs are certainly better for low grip siutations as the balls allow for a great range of differential speed to either side but ball diff is finicky and loses its tune easier. gear diff is usually for higher traction but it much more durable and consitent, howver you are limited to the differential speed that the spider gears can achieve. a slipper clutch is a must if its available, i mean why not? you absolutely do NOT need it, but if you can do it, why not?
@alfredyost7972
11 ай бұрын
You know what is interesting about these cars? The Kyosho Dirt Master does include a slipper clutch but no ball diff. However , the Tamiya BBX includes a ball diff but no slipper clutch . You can buy an RB5 diff for the Kyosho Dirt Master and it will work. I was thinking equip both cars with a slipper and an ball diff and we can see how it works out. Thoughts? @@rexrcs
@rexrcs

@@alfredyost7972 yes good idea why not, it shouldnt hurt the model, be sure to tighten up the diff and slipper because during break in period they may come loose.

Good call, thank you@@rexrcs
No RRC anymore, after this disappointment with the BBX? Looks like you're running lots of toe out in the front (GoPro distorsion?). When fully into a corner ALL the weight and grip is on the outer wheels. With the Tamiya's limited max steering angle, that means larger turning radius. Does it really understeer, pushing straight over the front wheels? I think it should come with an oil-filled gear diff to have some control on the loose stuff. In an SRB at least, a diff is not really an upgrade.
@rexrcs
11 ай бұрын
Youre correct, along with gopro distortion, in the video i mention, it needs less toe out in front. No more RRC, 7 people telling me they didnt like it was enough to make me change it back lol
