Tamiya BBX Upgrades! Diff, Slipper Clutch, and adding Parts I Totally Missed During the Build.

Ойын-сауық

The Tamiya BBX is just SO awesome! I can't get enough of driving this buggy, it's just perfect, every time. In this video, I'll install the Tamiya slipper clutch set, swap the Yeah Racing gear diff out for the kit-included ball diff, and I'll even re-attach the spare tire with the proper mounting mechanism.

If not gradually tighten the nut/screw until the frontbof the car comes up as you pull the trigger. Excellent vid Fil! I love the new Poorboysrc logo at the bottom of the screen.

I have beat the snot out of my bbx over the last 5 days. I have been at my trailer in northern Canada and have had it out over 25 times and have had zero issues other than killing 12t brushed motors but that’s my fault I’m going to go brushless . I was thinking of makeing this thing a monster. Aluminum gear case, steel gears, slipper clutch, upgraded driveshafts and modifying the batt compartment to take a 4s lipo. A 80kph bbx would be nuts.

Superb video Fil! I'm loving how we are getting to see a longer term test of this great buggy mate. So many channels take them out once, and then we never see them again. Very cool to see the progression of the project, weakness's disclosed, upgrades and lots of tinkering along the way..... which is what this hobby is all about in my mind. Must admit, I'm surprised you destroyed two yeah racing ball diffs.... their products are normally very reliable, perhaps theres a design fault there. I know a lot of people don't like ball diffs, but I'm a big fan, and love how easy they are to adjust on most models. They are generally pretty robust to! She certainly seemed to drive well with the ball diff and slipper installed, great job! Loving your pronunciation of the word Aluminium, I think you have been watching too many UK channels on KZread dude! 😂 That beach looks like the perfect stomping ground, got some amazing action footagage there for sure. I am surprised you blew the gear diff, twice! It seems there may be a design flaw in that one to lose it twice in a buggy, a big heavy truck maybe but for a 2wd buggy with fairly narrow tires I feel like there may be a weakness in the YR diff itself. Regardless I am glad you git it fixed up and our bashing around again. The slipper adjustment one the inside of the transmission housing looks better but makes it tricky to keep the motor wires out of harms way! certainly don't want to see sparks flying from back there midway through a run!!! LOL!

Thanks for the great feedback, Mads. I'm really learning as I go along with this whole video editing thing, so it's very encouraging to get good feedback when I'm experimenting with my story telling. Thanks dude! 🍻 As for the YR diff, it's been great in the TD4. I've only run about 3-4 packs through it, but they were hard miles, on concrete. The diff never skipped a beat. In the BBX, I started with the YR diff open, and somehow I managed to get it slipping. Never done that to a gear diff before, and still don't really know what happened. It's like one of the sun gears was too far away from the planetary gears... 🤷‍♂️ -- So I installed the locker mechanism. It lasted 5 minutes before it started clicking, and after 10 minutes or so, I was 1 wheel drive with a very unlocked diff... lol. And yes, these are plastic gears. I hear there's a steel gear option available now, which will be my go-to if the ball diff dies on me. 👊🏼

The slipper clutch allows the transmission gears to "slip" a little when confronted with a jarring impact that could otherwise put stress on the trans gears, and possibly damage them. For example, when landing a jump, or landing on throttle. Instead of possibly damaging the gears, the slipper allows a little slipping of the spur, to absorb that force, protect the transmission, and keeps the car moving in a stable, predictable manner. 👊🏼

  • @albertoportas5976

It is a clouch that make the gears slip when are under high pressure so you protect your transmission and pinions from the torque that the motor produces to avoid snap the gears. I mean slip clouch insulates the power that the motor produces in situations where the tires lock like jumps or big acceleration on areas that have too much grip and can blow pinions and gears... sorry my eanglish is so bad 😅
