New RC Truck! - The Arrma Senton 3S V3

There is a new RC in town! I decided to add the Arrma Senton 3S V3 to the lineup and it is impressive! I included a side by side comparison between the Big Rock and Granite to the Senton to give an idea of the size difference between the 3S V3 10th scale rc trucks from Arrma. Do you own the Arrma Senton? If so, leave a comment down below with your experience and which of all the 3s lineup from Arrma is your favorite!

    Good call! Yeah, they are a handful on 3s, but do have more stability at speed. There is a 3 way adjustable speed control on the back of the radio, where you can set the power to 50%, 75% and 100%. Definitely comes in handy for youngsters who are still learning and newbies!

    Depending on if you bash or not, a bottom metal chassis plate will help a lot. These are fairly bulletproof stock, but once you modify for more power, some of the drive gears may need to be upgraded to aluminum from plastic to handle the power.

    bad news: 3s with a 100C 8000mah battery managed to destroy the plastic spur gears on both trucks within 15 minutes of each other. I've chewed up spurs from motors shaking loose but this completely ground the spur smooth, it really needs a hardened steel spur gear and pinion for 3s. The aluminum pinion was also deformed where it meets the spur teeth. Both motors are siezed from all the filings that built up inside the gearbox. Not easy to wrench on these trucks due to the friction fit design of the gearbox and sand packing in to the channels connecting it to the chassis (biggest issue imo). I think we will be switching to associated b6 buggies since these trucks are close to totalled, and 2wd buggy looks pretty popular at sdrc.

  • @rcleesd

    @rcleesd

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@Vethanis that's a bummer! I run 3s 50c 5000mah batteries and haven't had an issue with the spur gear yet, but on my Granite, I was having that issue and went to steel spur and haven't had an issue since. I would call Horizon Hobby about the motors and they will replace them for free. (I made a video about how easy the process was). I think you can only run 2s at SDRC, and these Arrma plastic trucks wouldn't keep up with the aluminum and carbon fiber kits that people use at the track. My buddy races there with a b4 and it would smoke any rc that I own. His also is close to $1,500 fully done up. Call Horizon...worse case scenario, get the new motors for free, buy a steel or plastic spur and then use it or sell it....you'll get much more for them that way.

  • @Vethanis

    @Vethanis

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@rcleesd I think what happened is the trucks landed under power and the shock on the drivetrain caused the pinion to sawblade the spur gear. A hardened steel spur would definitely be a big improvement. We will call Horizon and see what they do for the motors. I'll probably replace the pinion and spurs on the diffs with hardened steel as well when I get around to reassembling everything. For us, getting the gearbox + motor assembly out required a lot of force and prying with a tool due to sand packing into the channels between the gearbox and chassis. Same for the red spacer that holds it in place. We probably ought to blast everything clean between runs with an air compressor. For now we are building our B6 kits that we will be using for light bashing and possibly some racing. So far has been an easy build just like my T3 kit 2 decades ago.

    I just replaced my servo with a cheap, 20kg replacement servo from Amazon for about $18. It was a 25t as well, and after running into the same issue with the servo saver, I decided to smash it on (23t onto the 25t) and although not usually the best idea, it works; especially since the screw holds it down fairly well. Haven't had any slipping issues with it so far.

    I like the narrative the best. Last 30 seconds was spot on. 1. For a dirt race track, how would you compare the Senton vs the Typhon 3S BLX? 2. You mentioned Senton does well on loose gravel. What do you mean by the Senton having better "directional control"? 3. When you said it "holds the line so well (in loose dirt), how does that compare to the Typhon?

    I'd say they are both the lightest and most agile of the 3S Arrma lineup, but probably the Typhon for track as it is the lightest overall. I just meant that it seems to hold a line better than say the Granite. Compared to the Senton, the Typhon is similar, but just feels lighter and turns on a dime.

    @@rcleesd yeah I put a heatsink and fan on the motor and a fan on the ESC of the brushed. Also removed the plastic front guards to allow air flow. That helped. But overall performance even on 2s is not even 50% of 3s. And the Senton drives so differently than the granite. Doesn’t seem to flip as much.

    No worries! It means 3 cells (think 3 triple aa batteries versus 2). The S stands for series, which means that the 3 cells inside the battery are linked together in a way that adds the voltages together vs in parallel, where all the cells are linked, but the voltage is not increased, but rather the capacity is added (tripled in the case of 3s). So, most RC lipo batteries will be in S (series) not P (parallel). This way you have maximum voltage to push the motor faster. There are many types, but most are 2s, 3s, 4s, 6s, 8s. Often 2s for smaller, slower rcs, and 3s for faster. 4s is usually a 1/8th scale or larger (stock) and big RCs like the Traxxas Xmaxx use two 4s together with a link to make 8s. I hope that helps. Just think of it kinda like a 4 cylinder versus v6 versus V8 and you will be good.

  • @rcleesd

    @rcleesd

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@willpitcher2574 All good questions! The only difference (as far as I know) between the G1 and G2 is that the G2 doesn't have the balance leads anymore. If you bought the newer G2 type charger, they have both IC5 and IC3 options, so you don't need an adapter, and therefore get the IC5. I personally have the older G1 batteries and G1 Charger and decided to go with IC5 and just use the adapter to charge (IC5 to IC3) and then run it directly in the rc. I figured, I don't charge above 10 or 12 amps, so better to have the cable on then, rather than while driving. Also, less wire to mess with under the body shell. Hope this helps!!
