New Ram Midsize Truck to be Built in the USA! Will be Called Dakota? Everything We Know!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Thanks to the UAW's tentative agreement with Stellantis we have confirmation that a brand new midsize pickup truck is coming from Ram. Will it be a new Dakota? Ram Rampage? Something else?
We go over all the facts that we have right now and speculate what this new truck could be.

Stephen, I am happy to hear the Belvidere Plant has a new lease on life. 👏👏Stellantis idled that factory when they abandoned the Cherokee and the very heart of the CUV segment. 🤨Hopefully the Dakota comes back as a genuinely competitive model. An 8 foot bed option like the original Dakota would be fantastic.🤞 That Belvedere plant has built so many Dodge, Plymouth and Chrysler models since it opened in the mid-60s but they never actually built the Plymouth Belvedere. 😉

Being old school, I'd prefer they ditch the RAM brand for Dodge. Was stupid back in the day to change it. They need to make a basic compact inexpensive truck to compete with Maverick. 4 cyl. Turbo 6 speed grinder single cab

It will be interesting to see it. For it to be truly successful it will have to be substantially cheaper than the full size and have much better mileage. I liked my 2002 Dakota with a small v8… that was a rocket.

I think it just has to follow the recipe that other OEMs have currently. They arent vastly more inexpensive, nor do they get substantially higher mpg but they are just different enough that it gives buyers who are on the fence that option for a slightly smaller form factor.

I still have a 2002 that I love, but I don't have anybody to work on it anymore, and it needs a few things done... but you're right, that was a fun, wholy useful little truck, and it's day was a zippy thing, and it's still got a lot of life in it, despite high miles, an exhaust leak, and bad brakes. :)

Since the new midsized ram Dakota won't be rolling off the Illinois assembly line for another 3yrs I hope Stellantis brings the compact Rampage to US shores in '24 because truck buyers here could really use more affordable entry-level trucks in this time of high inflation, high interest rates %

A midsize just doesn't make sense to me. They are already struggling with Gladiator sales, now they are going to give buyers another option in the same space. A compact competitor would have made more sense but they are not as profitable for sure. Offering a more affordable option would expand their customer base but in reality there just isn't much savings going from fullsize to midsize anymore.

It's going to be the 3.6 with the small hybrid battery a la the RAM. Let's be honest here ... Stellantis doesn't have the R+D like ford and GM to come out with extensive new vehicles with new engines, and transmissions to establish a vehicle niche. They will intro something mediocre with safe powertrains to snap up some of the market.... but not revolutionize it.

Will it be called Dakota? You know it will. You KNOW it. Because nostalgia is like an ex girlfriend who knew how to suck your soul through a straw. It felt so awesome it is seared into your core memory. It's nostalgia. And we're slaves to it. And if it dances through your mind a few more times because her name was Dakota, then you're going to wish the new girlfriend's name is Dakota also. That's how simple we are as men. So you can bet the godamn farm it's going to be called Dakota. And she won't smell like the old one, or tickle your pickle exactly like the old one, but just the name is sometimes good enough, because that's how hard up we are to be 23 years old again and have a Dakota in our lives.

Bro we need a small business truck. This is ridiculous I don't need a behemoth full-size. I need a mid-size, truck that is a small crew cab with 6.5-7 foot bed optional 8 foot and access cab, that focuses on payload, I am talking 2000 Lbs and can tow 5,000lb. Make it a hybrid that gets in the 30s. Not all of us can afford having 2 vehicles and need a fuel sipping work truck. This is not hard to grasp. Da fuq is wrong with these car companies. I don't have small penis syndrome and don't need power, power, power. I am aggravated Toyota only came out with a hybrid Tacoma that is iforce max. They should've made a fuel conscious hybrid and a work hybrid. I do not need to ride high off the ground like in a full-size. I do not care about off-roading. I am very happy to have a FWD-based AWD system (IE Ridgeline). I also need the Ridgeline to get a slightly larger bed and a hybrid option. I don't understand why these companies are skipping over hybrids and just going straight to EV... I do NOT want an EV. The tech isn't there, the infrastructure isn't there, the grid isn't there. Why is Ford building a lightning instead of a PHEV F150... They don't even have the plants to make these batteries yet... Everyone should know Toyota released a report to dealers explaining why they weren't jumping straight into EVs. One of those reasons was because of the amount of minerals it takes to make an EV battery. 1 EV battery could produce 6 PHEV's batteries and 90, yes 90 HEV batteries... The government mandate to EV is rushed and ridiculous. They need to start building nuclear plants if they are serious about a clean energy future and forced EVs... Otherwise second law of thermodynamics means this push to EV is a net negative for reducing carbon emissions.
