As always a well-done vid, with good observations. Regarding bumper covers there will almost always be a slight variation in color from the body of the vehicle. Some vehicles more pronounced than others. Paint will look different on plastic than it does on steel/aluminum, especially as it ages.

Should have come boosted from the factory but I’m sure going in with Toyota on the project and all the problems Subaru has had with the WRX and STi it was better for the engine life going N/A. Plus less warranty issues. Bought the car with 16k miles and the super charger already on the car, paid 20K. Finally got to drive a stock one and was like what the hell is this crap. Lol 😂

As a 2013 owner who had a spun bearing be cautious about buying an earlier model. There aren't as many motors available and the prices of a pulled motor are staggering (50k mile motor is 4k+). On the other hand these cars are SUPER easy to work on and second hand parts can be found on the cheap. Personally if I could do it all over I would have K swapped or put an ls in instead of getting a low mileage FA20. Panel gap on the front bumper is normal if the bumper has been removed at least a couple times FYI. That wing isn't stock on the premium, comes stock on the limited so someone may have done a trunk swap. The front bumper has all the bolts on the top, but is missing two of the larger push clips. If you hate the older taillights you can directly swap in one of the newer led ones that are red instead of the clear chrome.

My 6'4" frame has more torso length than normal making sitting in the BRZ/FRS's difficult even without my SNELL helmet on - hence my selection of the 2020 WRX so that my "much inflated ego" will fit under the roof liner! :-) That said, my best wishes and I enjoy your channel.

Just FYI front bumper gap is pretty much the single most frequently reported problem on these early model years. Also, bumper paint match to body panels is slightly off for the lighter colors. I've owned a white pearl BRZ since 8 miles, now at 100k. The bumper gap is an impossible fix unless you do something diy.

Really excited to see what you do with this! Quick question, unrelated to this video I'm about to watch; Do you think Subaru North America is ever going to introduce a Crosstrek with the same powerplant as the outback XT or onyx editions? I looooooove my 19 Crosstrek but like many people wish it was a little zippier when I want to go fast. I am almost ready to trade in/up to an onyx or wilderness outback but I'm not sure I need the extra size of the outback. I really enjoy the compact nature of the Crosstrek. I just want more horses under the hood. Plus I think the handlebar mustache on the new models front end looks fun, but I'm sure that's been a divisive design choice. If you were me, would you wait until they release the turbo model? I guess that's why I'm asking in the first place. The new "sport" edition is laughable as a performance model. I felt no difference at all unfortunately.

I had a 2003 WRX I spent a few years maintaining until a left turning car caused me to total it. So I know a bit about Subaru maintenance and It'll help me keep this Impreza going. Future Idea would be to turn it into a mock GC8/22B; just go full tuner on it. :P

No hate for the Auto version here - I bought a 2016 BRZ Limited Auto with 13,800 (yes, less than 14k) miles in October of last year. Clean title and clean CarFax, bought from a local Subaru dealership. The only damage was the usual paint chips on the front end and some hail damage dings in the hood. They replaced the hood for free. The dealership also replaced all four tires (Yokohama AVID Ascend GT), did an alignment, oil and filter change, air filter change, cabin air filter change, brake fluid change, and diff fluid change. I'm the third owner, and the car has spent its entire life in Minnesota, where I live. The dealer I bought it from was where it was originally delivered from the factory, and all previous service was done at that same dealership. This is my first sports car and first rear wheel drive vehicle (it's been very interesting this winter). It's my daily driver and will never see a track. I might add some basic mods in the future and I've got a shop that's fairly local (MAPerformance), but it will remain mostly stock. I'm really happy with it so far. My only complaint is that the top part of the driver's-side plastic A-pillar trim decided to pop loose during a particularly bumpy highway drive...

Doesn't have the Limited digital climate control. Seems like they swapped the trunk, seats, headlights, onto this one. It would be interesting to pull some stuff off and see if the donor car was also silver or another color. These are hard to see out of when backing up and didn't have backup cameras yet. So the lady may have backed into something going less than 10 mph which will do plenty of crunching. There are two small plastic connectors down low on the back bumper that keep it from rocking back and forth that break super easy. These cars are really fun and the noises they make sure make it seem like you are going really fast. I think he got a sweet deal.

Could you please do a spark plug video on the brz? You said the motor had 75k on it. The owners manual says to replace them at 60k. That would be a cool video to do. I know many brz owners would appreciate it, since it’s hard to change the plugs on these.

I like the car! I’m looking for a third car, but I often overlook automatic versions of sporty ones. Not saying I would get an automatic one (or even a BRZ) but current automatics are generally really good- anyone crapping on this is clearly not considering the cost, yet its chassis should still make it fun. Should be an interesting series of videos. Good luck with it!

Thanks for this! I wish I had this kind of advice when buying my own 2013 BRZ. It seemed clean on the outside, but over time I have found more and more things that you have covered. Damage on the Carfax report, mismatched paint, inconsistent bumper gaps, rough paint masking, you name it. Avoid buying a car in the dark with no light... It seemed like damage similar to what you have showed here, but if I had thought to inspect the front subframe closely I might have seen that the driver's side control arm mount was pushed back a half inch or more. Replaced the subframe and both front arms, but part of the core support where the driver's side arm mounts is also pushed back. I'm sure I'll either have to get it cut out and replaced or pulled out on a frame rack, since it is messing with the caster on that corner. I'm not going to get into how the clutch disc was installed backwards... but that was a thing that I noticed on the test drive and should have walked away from. The dealer said it had a "race clutch" and that they did not intend to do anything about it. It was a learning moment... I really like the car, but regret not finding a better example.

I only paid $9k for it which was a auto with a clean title. Of course i wanted a manual but couldn’t pass that price up now im manual swapped with a cd009, built original motor and supercharged. Its not hard to swap as long as y’all keep crashing your fa20s it’ll always be parts and harnesses available. Few people keep records based on buying many new cars. I had the balls to buy a Porsche 996 without any service history and overall it was a great car but a big dice roll. I had a C5 corvette too. Sold it after 6 months. Wasn’t for me. The 911 ( sold it) was everything I could have asked for (@$18k) but I do have an interest in a BRZ instead of buying a Lotus. The new ones are too expensive in my opinion. $35-38k after taxes. Subaru’s are well built. I parted out about 10 down to the shell for VW Vanagon repowers.

14:43 Man, the fit of the front bumper on my car is 10x worse than the fit of that rear bumper, even though my car hasn't been in a front end crash AFAIK. 😂 It's just because the front bumper on the 2010 Civic Type R FN2 is very low and tends to get whacked on the ground a lot, so it droops and tends to pull out of the flange, under the headlights & grill, it sits on in either the middle or at the sides. Then the bits where the wheel arch cladding trims join to the front bumper (which extends down to the bottom of the bumper, which Honda changed later to have the join terminate higher up on HR-Vs and things, not that HR-Vs are low...) tend to get scraped on kerbs and things which breaks clips and therefore they don't fit properly to the body or bumper either. I'll guess I'll have another go at realigning it, lol. The price for two new wheel arch trims with intact clip mounts and a new front bumper (or even just the new lower part of the front bumper) is a bit 😮. I'm a bit jelly of cars where the front quarters and front bumper are just three pieces instead of six pieces, but I guess the new WRX joins into the multi-part cladding fun! 😂

i’m more interested in sports/sporty cars with automatics because i like to know how well the transmissions hold up. for example there are many reports of the stock auto’s on the VQ37 sedans/coupes holding up well to high miles and some power mods. versus some of the gm and honda autoboxes which couldnt handle their engines in stock form.

@@SplosionMovies surprisingly yes. I have been expecting either the engine or transmission to die for the last couple of years, but this thing keeps chugging along. He’s only had to replace the wheel bearings, one of the HID xenon headlights, a couple of wheel studs, and the standard brakes, tires, and shocks. He doesn’t put premium gas, only 87 because he drives from Cambridge Ontario to Brampton Ontario, 150 kms, every day. He is near retirement this year or next, so he plans to run it until than and then scrap the car.

Congrats on the BRZ! I've been following for a while now and I had a question - mainly for the community - has anyone experienced code P0852 on a 2011 Impreza non/turbo? I've haven't had much luck in finding any information on how to diagnose the code since my car is a 5MT the information found doesn't make sense. The code reads "Generic - Park/Neutral switch input circuit high", my understanding being that this is the switch/sensor that prevents the car to start while in a gear...to throw a twist, when it comes on, it's usually during high speeds but it has not affected how the car runs. Along with the check engine light turning on, the Vehicle Dynamics dash light turns on along with Cruise Control light flashing. Any suggestions on where to find more info ? Anything would be super helpful! Thank you!!!

Parasitic battery draw. Common on the newer Outback. Several different causes. Can be tricky to diagnose.

Pointless, STi is an EJ it quite massive trouble to just make it work here. It wont even fit as engine in BRZ sits even lower and further back so intercooler and other things would be really problematic to fit. Its doable but not in oem style at all.

…sure…and destroy the balance of the amazing chassis. All it needs is a tune to get rid of the torque dip. HP isn’t everything. This is a great car.

@@tomrakusan1179 Exactly. Also drove cars that have relativelt little power but were incredibly fun. For instance 137hp Ford focus 2.0Lzetec. It was crazy rev happy and it wasnt any sporty version just to DOHC version with variable valve timing. Also owned 156hp 1990 2.0L Celica that probably had only 115whp due to age and wear, and i gave me more enjoyment than any mkre modern powerful car i drove(granted most are SUVs, like 3L V6 Audi q7 or bmw x3, but i did drive Subaru Legacy 3.6r(cvt sadly) and all of them feel rather boring. Sensation of speed is non existant i found myself speeding excessively quite fast if i didnt look at the speedo on a highway. The more mechanical and connected the car is to the driver the better, even if its weak it will feel fun and exciting to interact with. Low seating position in BRZ or Celica or even wagons/sedans(compared to SUVs) will make it feel much faster too as long as car isnt set up to just be boring like say a Toyota Camry might be and isnt automatic.

Fast and fun is better then slow and fun. 300hp to 350hp to the wheels would make this car perform better then a 350Z in every category.

Subaru are junk lol. I spun a rod at 69k miles in my 2017 BRZ and the oil level wasn’t low. Used engine was 6000 new was 12000. I know there are brz’s that have lasted a while but I had a poor experience personally, with that said I loved it and it didn’t burn me on Subaru. The BRZ was my third and I love them, there is a number of reasons why it might have let go but I’m not mad, I still want to buy an STI but with the market the way it is I bought a VW 2.0TSI. Looking to upgrade with the Borg Warner turbo kit from FCP Euro and doing some subtle tasteful mods to make it faster and more fun
