Our first car right after getting married was a 1991 Legacy with front wheel drive. At the time, it was about $2k cheaper in this configuration than the comparable Accord or Camry. Had the motorized shoulder belts that were "handed" to you as the front doors were opened. Brought our first child home from the hospital in that car a few years later. Sold it to a cousin after 100K trouble free miles, and she got at least another 100k out of it. Still have a 2012 Legacy in the fleet; I'm convined that many of the components such as wheel bearings, ball joints, struts, exhaust, etc. (not to mention the transmission) are nowhere near as durable in the newer ones.

Most repairs are due to lack of owner service and bearing on a car thinking it a super car. Not only with Subaru cars it with others make and model but ppl will say thing not true. It a 2.0 or 2.5 and sewn where they best o them like a child. It a work horse not a super car.. my legacy l 2.5l have 346k factory head gasket and been in three country as a work horse not a sport car. It not a 911 gt.. as a tech for many makes and models I rebuilt motors due to owner putting stress on a motor not made for racing. Fact it a family car with fake tuning to make it look like a rally car.

Mr Subaru right after subscribing to your thumbs I was able to then comment .... " Thanks for all your coverage. Much of it is extremely insightful and appreciated, ...tho now que the 🎶for the wing-nut /🐒 🔧!! of my comment is that..".I'm saddened by the realization that you actually hate Subarus and just about everything and everyone that has anything to do with them. Some days anyone who has or has anything to do with a soobie, hates them at times, oddly enough, at least in my case the love outweighs the hate, so perhaps to get you back on the track to loving the brand once again Is $_____++@$k MR. Subaru himself to give a little fatherly advice as whether or not ??It'd be even remotely poss. to swap a man. 4 cy 87' gl wagons' engine and trans into a 1999 anniversary legacy outbacks' very rare, and beautiful body. Can that smaller engine"87 gt pull the much broader frame of the 99 legacy outback??also any insight into anything related to the wiring harness differences between these types of years would virtually go viral as there is no mention of it anywhere on the world wide web and we're just all dying to know. So please Mr Subaru for the Love of Subaru will you please help a Subaru brother out? **Side note

I took my 2020 Forester in and was told this was "probably" the tcv but they couldn't fix it for 4 weeks. But the service rep said it was OK to drive it until then ("unless the check engine light starts flashing, then pull over and get it towed.") Can anyone tell me if this is bad advice? I am an older, single female and am terrified of getting stranded on the side of the road.

I'm about to do a Subaru in Minnesota. Plenty of salt sand and corrosion. I found one of those devices at Amazon for 50 bucks. I love the simplicity and the time-honored concept of leverage. Thank you. I'll let you know how it turns out

My first Subaru is actually the gen 5 2010 Legacy 2.0i...also my first AWD vehicle ever own now, and she had me totally blown away with the handling in dry and wet conditions, compared to any other front wheel drive vehicles that I've owned. No sweat if the Legacy has finally pulled the plug as we still have the outback which still retains the Legacy's DNA! But still sad to hear the news... 😞

Very tempting. If the torque rating is even close to accurate, the M18 high torque is gonna be spending a lot of time sittin' on the shelf.

The touchscreen of my 2018 Outback Limited has a bigger area for the backup camera display than the 2024 Outback which has the monstrous Touch Screen display. The backup display is 1” wider on the older, smaller touchscreens. I think that these sizes are consistent on the upper trim levels of most if not all Subaru body styles.

Subaru FB and FA engines you need to avoid. If anything goes wrong you have to take the front timing cover off. There's over 20 bolts and siliconed on. You can't skimp reinstalling either or else engine oil leaks everywhere The BEST engines are the 2003-2010 N/A 2.5's Bullet proof once you do an ARP headstud conversion with MLS head gaskets. Parts are always available, super cheap and if you know what you're doing; a buddy and you with all the right tools can have that engine out in 30 minutes TUNING IS EVERYTHING The Normally Aspirated ECU's are programmed for the turbo engines What a stupid Subaru design. The Timing is WAY OUT. Done properly the power is excellent, fuel economy through the roof and way more responsive. Check your PCV valves often You'll kill your engine if you slack off. It will also consume oil like crazy if neglected Don't chince out of crappy China parts. Get good timing belt and pulleys. The water pumps never fail. They so well built. Oil pressure sensors like to fail on these so keep an eye under your alternator. Subaru outbacks have 350-400,000 kilometers on them no issues. Take care of your engine with excellent oil and top notch Mobil One long life oil filter Spark plugs need to be checked on a yearly basis if you don't get good ones. Proper gap is needed to excellent fuel economy and performance.

What the hell man, I just bought the Gen 1 and thought I was in heaven. Now I am not so sure. Is this hell? Tell ya what though, nothing beats a koken ratchet. Just got one delivered the other day Koken 3725ZB Z-EAL 3/8" and it is everything and then some. Amazing! Only dealing in Koken ratchets now! Gotta get the flex heads and long handle.

every 40,000 miles, there will be small particles in the oil a flush could send those particles in small passageways and block them so never ask for a flush just drain and replenish the oil

Pittsburgh pro ratchet is better than astro pneumatics and craftsman. The warranty realization is better the all the companies on the table. Not a bad value either at that price point. No reason to hate on the DIY Mecca.

You may be right, or the amazon one is made in the same factory to a lower spec. Forge molds may be the same but cheaper steel, cheaper temper, etc. to hit the lower pricepoint. You can't know for certain without actual testing of both products.
