Usually I ride old model horses to remind me of the old days. Whenever I ride a gen 1 horse the nostalgia hits like a train. It makes me sad but in a strange, good way.

I also like the new forest, but when you hear 'Hollow Woods', what do you imagine? A whimsical forest with magical horses, rivers, and will-o-wisps, or an eerie, almost empty and scary forest? The old one was more suitable for the name imo

imo I think the new Hollow Woods fits the druid aspect a lot better than the old one, I get the annoyance with the name but tbh the old one was SO outdated

The old Hollow Woods was indeed very empty, but absolutely not eerie or scary. Especially not with the very calm, almost lethargic soundtrack there. To me, it was just an empty, stagnant place, perhaps relaxing, but very dormant and passive. There was nothing scary or eerie about it. "Hollow" can also have multiple interpretations - it can mean that there are a lot of hollows in the trees (which there are in the new Hollow Woods), or metaphorically, for example, that it's secluded, closed to itself, its own world, just like a hole or a tree hollow.

As a player for 9 years I want to hold onto my childhood memories. and since the game has changed so much.. old model horses are all we have left.

Even if it’s mind-numbing to collect, the fireflies giving 1HXP builds up over time and isn’t so bad so long as you can multitask and listen to something. It’s a game changer for gaining horse XP and you can grind it

Sorry if it sounds harsh, I know that many people liked it before the update - but for me, the old Hollow Woods just had absolutely no "vibe", like none at all, and especially not anyhow "scary" and definitely not "magical" (not even "covertly magical", or "possibly magical", or "magical in its own way"). I could feel no magic or charm whatsoever. I perceived it just as an empty, stagnant, dormant place with a lot of unused potential - it may have been kind of relaxing and/or a nostalgic by the way it was quiet and thanks to the old graphics, but that was about it. I was just unable to create any kind of relationship to it, and I'm saying that as somebody who rode that same place many times as a kid when I played _Star Stable: Autumn Riders,_ where for some reason I liked Hollow Woods much more. In SSO, though, to me it was merely a landscape placeholder around Valedale. I'm very glad for all people who loved it, but I'm personally very grateful for the Hollow Woods update. Now it has instantly become my new favourite place in all Jorvik. :) Also, for myself, I absolutely disagree on that last point, I FREAKING LOVE HOW FREQUENT CHAMPS ARE NOW and can't get enough of them 😍😍😍 And most people who I know and who regularly attended champs have it the same 😁

also i feel like it was kind of lazy to reuse the premade magic horses that people already have. I was hoping for new horses you would have to finish quests through the light system to get. :/

The system is there to replace the current rotations for magic horses I believe, since people can't access them everyday. I don't think it's lazy if you understand the actual reason for what it's meant to do.

I absolutely LOVE stocky, strong draft horses so I’m really, really excited for the Ardennes.

Okay to answer the question as to why we like quarter horses so much is that many of us have either owned or rode a quarter horse before since it's one of the most common horse breeds, at least in the united states. I've personally owned and trained many different horses and QHs are by far my favorite to ride and work with, they may not be the flashiest out there, but they are well known to be the most versatile horse breed in the world.

Okay literally about the mist though, i commented on the first announcement video where the main developer that created these woods was talking that I would love to have thick mist because it would give it a really dope vibe and it would make the races a bit more complex and the dev liked it, so I figured that it was coming, but alas, nothing...again.

1:23 Actually, the correct way to call the breed would be to call them "Ardennais" (the accurate word in French, which would be pronounced pretty much like you did in the vid the first time, without the "ss" at the end). I have big hopes for them, I pray that SSO will do the real Ardennais and not some sporty American version, like they did with the Percheron :')

For the old horses thing, the old Arabs turn faster so theyre better for champs, same with the old ponies But other than that. i think its to try to bring the old SSO vibe back, like the comic book horses and magic and mystery Im saying this as someone who prefers the new horses, but I still think the old friesians go hard (even if theyre lacking that new horse polish)

"Train and talk to me" I would love a train and talk to me LOL Edit: The reason why I dont want the new area for everyone, as where they put it on the map its in need of basically taking away some of the map on either side of it. Like really sso? It couldnt go anywhere else by moorland where there is much more room?

I ride old horses sometimes because 1) I need to level up them to 13 lvl 'cause it's one of the ways how I play and enjoy the game 2) it's kinda fun sometimes to do smth out of place but still not harmful or too awkward, maybe to get some ppl confused, especially newer players and if the horse's no longer buy-able. Not necessarily like "I have rare stuff" but more like "Look, what do u think is that? How u like that?" 3) nostalgia & have memories with some of them 4) I wasn't able to buy some of the gen 1 when they were popular, so I did it recently to get that experience somehow + they cost almost nothing so why not 5) I enjoy playing around doing looks that'll be interesting and not so bad-looking in my opinion despite things being from different gens of graphic styles 6) I like how the horses look more or less, anyways I enjoy thinking about stylistic decisions that were made for them in that period of time 7) I have no other horses I want to train now too. But it doesn't mean I never train older gens when I have newer ones to level up 8) I like to collect old horses, buying and not riding them after isn't for me

Yeah people ride older horses for nostalgic purposes mostly, and sometimes just for fun.

I've stopped playing for a while now but I still watch SSO videos from time to time. The new HW looks nice, the grinding seems reasonable this time (unlike the soul training) and the new NSR area is also rlly neat. HW looks a bit larger now which is good (for me) bcs it always felt a bit claustrophobic. At some point during the video you asked why people still ride gen 1/2 horses. For me it is bcs it's nostalgic and also there are many gen 2 horses on my alt which I need to level up

You could commission someone to draw you with the paint and warmblood. but on the butt of the warmblood and paint could be little cute rats

I did the same thing lol Autumn presets are so good bro.. their light on the eyes and so pretty. I almost blinded myself when I turned my reshade off. Also pictures are SO much better with reshade in the forest.

on the topic of riding old gen 1 horses, i personally only ride mine around when i’m training them bc i’m buy them before they’re removed from the game then because i want all my horses trained, they’ve got their turn on my circuit just like my new gen 3 beauties 🤗

If I'm ever riding a gen 1/2 horse, it's because i have to train it lol. I buy the horses they're gonna retire and i can't let it sit untrained so...sometimes you'll be seeing me on a crusty horse lol.

The reason why is uaually money based for riding the older horses. Even though I ride the newer generation I always wait until I have enough Star Coins piled up to buy any new horses. There are others though that maybe arn't star riders that can't afford the newer horses. Though there might be a few who just cherish thier first horse as well.

reasons people ride old horses: - not everyone has enough star coins to upgrade old breeds they own when other new horses come out so frequently - if i buy something, i'm going to continue getting value out of it for the rest of my life if i can. not all of the old horses are ugly or unrideable, they're just not updated - nostalgic purposes which you already acknowledged - not all old coats are carried over accurately to the updated breeds, and sometimes the coat options on older breeds just look better to some people

I am currently playing Kena: Bridge of Spirits and Hollow Woods reminds me so much of Kena. Minus the frustrating, but fair combat ofc xD

I ride the older horses, specifically gen 2 pintabian and friesian cs they were the peak of older sso. I really like the models and animations compared to gen 3 😭some of the gen 3 animations are so ugly

Warmbloods are overrated. Quarter horses/any type of stock horse is infinitely better. So much more versatile and imo they have much better attitudes than warmbloods ;)
