New Hyundai Santa Fe hybrid 7 seater SUV 2024 review
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
This is HUGE! The new Hyundai Santa Fe hybrid 7 seater SUV is here! Subscribe here: / @therightcar
At launch, the new-generation (fifth gen, or MX5 - yes, seriously!) Santa Fe is petrol-electric HEV hybrid only. But later this year there will be a cheaper turbo-petrol model, which might suit your budget a bit better.
Not that this new-gen model is expensive -- it undercuts its main hybrid 7 seater SUV rival, the Toyota Kluger (Highlander) and there are several grades available, unlike in the Kia Sorento range (GT-Line only!).
Its design may be a bit divisive, but if you like the look of this new Santa Fe model, you're going to be really into its interior!
The fuel economy? You bet it's good! But you'll have to watch to see what I achieved in this test.

The Kluger looks like it’s 20 years behind.
One of the best interiors going. Nice functionality and storage, yet still lush.
It's a van. It's an MPV. We've come full circle.

This will be interesting.
Absolutely love it. Saw it in person the other and wow. If I didn’t need a Ute I would definitely buy one.
good work, good car!
Thanks for the review Matt. Can’t wait for the petrol turbo review plus your thoughts on both engines vs Sorento and new generation Kodiaq. Current Kodiaq Sportline is super fun to drive with a huge boot.

Thanks mate. I am really looking forward to new-gen Kodiaq. Existing one is a peach!
Looks nice.
There is some hope when it comes to the dumb speed warning. Saw a video recently of the Kia EV3 from Autogeful. It allows users to long press a button on the steering wheel to disable the warning sounds. Wasn't clear to me if it was permanent but heaps better than multiple clicks. I'm hoping Hyundai follows suit.
I can't wait for the petrol versions review. I like it. The H design features are clever.

Thanks - yep, the petrol one is going to be a powerhouse!
My kids would love the “Captain’s Chairs” on interstate trips, and we only really need 6 seats so it could work. The third row looks practical too. It’s a tad longer than I’d like however, living in inner city Sydney. But I really like the interior.
Our dealership is letting us take their demo this weekend to see if we love it. I already do but have to wait for going back to work to buy one. But I think they're hoping we bite the bullet early haha
How do you find this vs Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV 7 seat ? I know the 3rd row in outlander is really bad but solves my situation...how about the driving, handling etc.
Is the XRT coming to Oz? And does it still have the sort-of centre-lock feature they they had in the older gens? Also - is there at least a quick-access button to these damn assistance system settings?
It is nice, it should have 2nd row bench from Ev9 - 1/3 of it has childseat tilt for easy access to 3rd row with childseat installed.

Would be good.
It seems like a seasoned design engineer designed the front section, and the rear was designed by a graduate when the senior engineer was on leave.
I really really really like the front and side view but the back, the back needs to be squared off. If they squared off the back (chefs kiss)

The back is flat! The side panels and side panels sheet metal that will get a small dint and look like a major accident. Have even seen these things out in the flesh ? Unless you were making a joke here.
Hi Matt, I've read that the new Sante Fe hybrid has some type of 'frequency damping' shock absorbers. What exactly is this? Likewise, is this damping also fitted to the new Tucson hybrid?
Really nice review covering all the aspects!! I have placed the order for Calligraphy.. Earthy Brass Matt with Black interior! Looking forward to it! 😊 White interior looks really good too.. but with kids wasn't sure if it would have been lots of maintenance!!

So what's the range when using the EV only mode?
@dnajournal4321
18 күн бұрын
It's not a PHEV. The "range" and the regular fuel use is all mixed together like in Toyota and Lexus to give a ~7L/100km fuel economy.
I must say, hyundai nailed it in terms of storage, use of space, family features and looks. The rear design also looks better in person than pics, but those rear indicators are located dangerously low. If ANCAP are serious about safety, then they should also focus on correct placement of lights and indicators rather than going gaga over the super-intrusive beeping stuff , that most of the drivers just want to turn off .
@kennethprocak5176

Most vehicles have the rear turn and brake lights half that distance above the road. Most vehicles on the road are small medium sedan and hatchbacks. Not an overpriced delivery vans or hatchbacks with oversized wheels, that’s a SUV if you people haven’t noticed.

@therightcar

There is a HUGE misconception around battery life. Hybrid batteries have a warranty, like an EV battery. If you service with Hyundai they will keep an eye on the battery. Servicing shouldn’t be more than a conventional engine.
@RodneyW
18 күн бұрын
@@therightcar The big question is: how long do hybrid batteries last? I've read that you can expect 10 years... however there seems to be a wide range of costs being quoted for a replacement after warranty. A Toyota hybrid battery is typically quoted at around $3k. Honda quotes $10k. Hyundai's warranty document is not clear as to what the minimum capacity of the battery is to trigger a replacement. By comparison, Tesla nominate 70% of original capacity as the minimum during the warranty period.
A very nice car, I still might wait for the 2025 RAV4
I'm trying to like it but I don't think it's going to happen.
I test drove this car a couple of weeks ago. I found that during rapid acceleration, the hybrid transmission had a strong jerk sensation. Definitely not as mature as Toyota hybrids.

@@therightcar Yes I did exaggerate my point. Looks are subjective, I just don't like the long boxy rear end. I think the roof line elongates the look.
Look at the sides of the inside of the boot around 5:50. All plastic. A Chery Tiggo 8 might be slightly smaller but it's like way way cheaper and the side of the boot is covered in carpet. Hyundais are so cheaply made I don't understand the price. Over time that plastic is going to have scratches and marks that don't come off and it'll look horrible whereas the Chery won't because it's carpet. These legacy brands need to up their game. Charging high prices for cheap quality is no longer acceptable.
@therightcar
19 күн бұрын
Wow, so you’d prefer carpet on the boot lining and that’s what you’ll make your choice by?
@SDav21
19 күн бұрын
@@therightcar It was just one example of the details that make a difference especially long term. There's no excuse for cheap plastics lower down in a car costing this much. Same goes for "premium" brands like Mercedes who use cheap plastics even in the C Class. When a Chinese car half the price can compete on interior material and build quality while also giving more, something is wrong with legacy carmakers and Hyundai is no exception.
Rear end styling looks off, the price is getting out of reach. I think a Honda CRV is a better deal (petrol). I would not chance buying a non Toyota Hybrid either.

No it’s not. I think this is a super 7 seater.
The average number of children a couple has in Australia is 1.7. It has been under 2 for the last 25 years. This big piece of garbage has room for 5 kids and the parents. To drive the Sante Fe feels like a big heavy box on wheels, which is what it is. The centre of gravity is high. In the moose test it rolls around like a piece of crap.
